IGAVANIA Kickstarter! Bloodstained: Ritual of the night

Is CD keys or green man gaming safe and legit? I noticed bloodstained is 31 on gmg and re2 remake is only 31 vs 59 on steam?

Both of those sites are good. Occasionally you’ll get a world-wide region key from CDKeys, but I’ve never had a problem. GMG is also good, but usually slightly less of a discount. They’re legitimate keys.

Thanks for the responses. So the people saying cdkeys is a scam are just bsing? It's totally safe to use your cc and the games will work 100%forever over steam? Just wondering before I grab few games

People think CD Keys is a scam. You just have to pay attention to what region the key you're getting is from. As far as I know they resell legitimate keys obtained from the publishers.

Yup, bought keys from both site, never had an issue. For CDKeys, you just have to watch out if you are getting a global key or region specific key.

Yep, you're good. I've even activated the global keys on my Steam account before with zero issues. I try to stay with US anyway, but both have worked just fine in the past.

Overall, decent game, but I prefer Curse of the Moon more than this. First, I guess I'm more of a purest when it comes to Castlevania games. I just found the grinding to take away from my enjoyment over the game. Level grinding, monster grinding for drops, grinding for shards, grinding to level up shards. Grinding the alchemist. Grinding the food. Etc. Yes, you don't have to do it, but it's encouraged.

Dam nyte I just got the game rlast night before your review ugh. I also really enjoyed cotm and hope they do another in that style soon...well I hope it's somewhat close to sotn in quality

This is pretty similar to SOTN era games. Like, you don't have to grind for the Card drops in COTM, but it's encouraged. I haven't exactly "grinded" yet. I'm about 6 hours in and LV 25 with just going about the map. Like you said, you can if you want...but you definitely don't have to. It's just things to do and carrots that are dangled.

Only if you want all the items, SOTN games are so easy they are a free win, they take NO skill at all.

Was waiting to get this on the Switch, but I heard the port is really bad right now. Shame.

I've played both the PC and switch versions. Do NOT buy the switch version, the framerate and input lag compared to playing on PC are unacceptable.

They need to patch switch pretty substantially to make it smooth enough to play properly.

Wow, thanks for the tip! I have it on Steam, but was going to buy the Switch version, as I like playing this type of game in bed before falling asleep. I will definitely hold off until they get it sorted.

Yeah I'm quite sad, I even bought a D-pad joycon specifically for this game, but on Switch it's just painful. Honestly, I used a remote play tool on the switch to stream the game over from my PC, which flows in at 60fps and that's miles better than the switch version overall.

Kind of silly, but it worked for when I want to play on the couch and don't want to set up my laptop table.

I'm sure they'll fix it. It seems like he really wanted to put this out in good shape. Hopefully they do.

Yeah I hope so. I really like the game so far, would be great if we could get a smooth 30fps and clean up the input lag.

I waited the extra week and got this on the switch....should’ve read up on the port quality. Not exactly unplayable but it feels sluggish even with few enemies on screen. And some rooms lag badly with no enemies on screen :(

Still having fun and can tell it’s a good game even if it’s a shit port. Not far in it yet...ugh. Don’t buy the switch version guys and gals. At least not pre-patch.

(But hey, if it can run Doom half well after patching hopefully they’ll get this going swell)

It'll get there, but I'll probably have finished it on PC beforehand.

Someone said that they felt like they knew the switch version was in crap shape, delayed it a week to hide it during initial reviews, then released it, played dumb about the problems, and are now promising to fix it.

Shady? Probably.

Unexpected in this day and age? Not really.

I don't think that's the case. I think it's just a matter of trying to meet deadlines, regardless of quality. They're a small dev. They can't really afford to delay. So, the sales would help dictate the level of support they can further develop it for. I know it sucks, but I kinda get it. At this point, I don't think they'll abandon the game on the switch. Honestly, outside of boardgames, this is probably the best kickstarter I back. Granted, Cosmic Star Heroine was incredibly well ran. So, perhaps, this is second best.

I saw an article blurb mentioning that they "vowed" to resolve all Switch issues. I don't remember where I saw it, but it was yesterday. Not a bad sign, and after the recent work done to address users' complaints pre-release, I tend to believe them.

Why wouqld anyone buy this for the switch to begin with? With it locked at 30 fps is lame. I hooked up my PC to my 4k tv with it accidently being set to 30hz made it unplayable. I just don't understand how people can play/want these games on a switch.

I'm already playing it on the PC on a 65" TV. However, I really like this TYPE of game on the Switch, when I'm just laying around, or if my wife is watching something on TV maybe. I didn't realize they limited it to 30hz though. Things like Sundered, Dead Cells, etc. all run at 60 on the Switch, so they translate just fine.

Not sure how I missed that about Ritual, but I'll be holding off until it's running full speed. If it doesn't, I'll play it just on the PC instead. Not a huge deal, but I like to have copies of as many of my favorite games on the Switch as possible, because I'm not always in front of the TV, or at my desk.

Agreed with J3RK that this is exactly the type of game I want to play on the switch. My other wish for a switch port (done right of course) is Ori and the Blind Forest. I do agree that ROTN plays so much better at high framerate though. Doing 144hz on it is buttery smooth and I love it. Wish the switch could at least do 60.

I just don't see how people could enjoy playing anything on such a small screen on top of all the other negatives.

I think your FOV is set too narrow.

If you can’t understand the exact reasons already spelled in the posts you quoted then you aren’t going to understand period.

So quit trying to wrinkle your brain about the Switch.

Never even heard of this game until I saw Digital Foundry's vid on it yesterday since I'm subbed to them.

Definitely looks good and worth buying. I'm in the middle of moving, so only have my Switch on me right now, but I think I'll wait and get it for my PS4 Pro given his findings in that vid. Just seems to be way too many compromises on the Switch port. I could maybe deal with 30 Hz if it was absolutely locked, but when it can't even hold it half the time, the IQ is a significant downgrade all around, and the weird loading issues (which may or may not get fixed in an update), I'll definitely take the PS4 or maybe PC version over that. I would definitely prefer it on the Switch otherwise if they could have ported it properly.

For anyone still on the fence, this is just another vote in favor of buying this game.

I’m a big fan of Metroidvania style platformers, but was not quite sold on the Kickstarter so decided to hold off. Since picking up the game I’ve been really surprised at just how much I’m enjoying it (got it on pc).

I grew up playing Castlevania games on the NES, SNES, and PS1, but haven’t really kept up since Symphony of the Night’s original release. I knew the game would be similar in experience to SotN, but I did not expect the high level of polish on the evolution of that experience. The game just scratches a lot of itches for me in regard to things I enjoy on this style of game, even some really small things like:

- How fast you can click through the menus to load your game after initial launch (I just hammer on the controller and I’m loading my last save in about 3 seconds).
- The near instant speed of transitioning between screens.
- How when you upgrade a weapon it doesn’t just do more damage, often it gains some new mechanic too.
- The sheer number of weapon and magic options with varied / nuanced mechanics and hit-boxes.
- The fact that you can end the game (bad ending) with only around 40% of the map explored.
- The amount and organization of information in the Archive menus.

On Normal the game isn’t super difficult if you’re farming/grinding a bit, which can be looked at as a con, but I’ve always liked games that let me out-level or out-gear enemies if I so choose. Many people have also complained that there are too many unnecessary items / skills, and some are imbalanced; again I just like to have the option, even if I never use half the items / skills.

I know there were a whole slew of Castlevania games I missed between the PS1 and now, so maybe that plays to my advantage (by having missed iterative improvements to the formula), but on the whole Bloodstained has been the most fun I’ve had with a Metroidvania style game in years.

Just finished the last boss this afternoon... What a great experience.... 96% completion, not sure what I missed. I think I will wait for the switch version to be fixed and then take a shot at hard or new game plus.

3 months later and the Switch version is still broken and physical copies have still not shipped. The Summer of Bloodstained turned out to be a dud, with no new content having been released as of yet. But thankfully we got a "balance update" because their data showed people weren't using literally every single power and not using weapon skills enough. Thanks for that.

The last update showed off a lovely piece of art depicting my confused waifu, though. I don't know why we're not seeing all that much fanart of Dominique out there.

I started playing this recently, since it got added to the Xbox for PC game pass thing.

It's...okay. It already feels somewhat tedious and I'm not even that far in. It feels like there is a ton of backtracking (I know it's a Metroidvania, but still) and you don't move particularly fast. Felt like I spent a lot of time just running through empty regions.

Maybe I just don't have the patience for this type of game these days, I dunno.

You're movement speed picks up as you play. There are skills and things that improve it. Still, I liked the game...I just wasn't the biggest fan of the shard power gains. It felt kinda cryptic at times. As, I didn't realize progression skills were gained through that instead of through bosses and what have you.

Yeah, that's another thing that I'm not too keen on. From my understanding, you obtain shards by on fighting the same enemy types over and over until one randomly drops?

Yes. And one of the key ways to progress in the game is obtained through that random shard from random enemy.

I like this game, but not quite as much as many other modern CVaniaTroids, and previous GBA/PS1/PCEngine/DS/SNES/Genesis Castlevania games. It's good, and has a lot of things going for it, but I do feel like a few of the systems are a little bit clunkier. Still, I think it was worth the money. At least on the PC.

Hoping this game is as good as the hype on pc. Many games people praise jus don't live up to hype axiom verge is one of Em. I just finished the messanger and its dlc was pretty fun game. Ritual of the night and hollow knight are next up for me so hoping both are good

Actually you want to get nine shards to max out the grade ;)
