New S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 details surfaced!!!

the Chernobyl TV series was really good for the most part. they should have left the politics and moralizing out IMO, but keep in mind people have described how in the nearby city they were forced to hold a parade the monday after even though there was known fallout happening. The actual facts are realistic and the court case at the end was a fantastic description of what happened.

I think that exact combination is why the politics of it was so fascinating. How often do we witness face melting criminal/willful negligence for the sake of the party? Literal face melting. :hungover:

It was dramatized and never promoted as a documentary.

If you were looking for a more accurate telling of the events, you should have watched the actual documentary The Real Chernobyl, the mini series the producers made.

It was never promoted as a documentary but the writer made several claims how he wanted the product to be accurate. I have seen multiple documentaries on Chernobyl, even some which were Russian produced. Hell I watched it happen in real time as the rest of the world began to discover the fallout.

Which "actual facts" are realistic? There was no helicopter crash caused by a wave of radiation overcoming the pilot. There was no lone female physicist who courageously fought against the tyranny of left-wing communist authoritarianism. The workers in the water did not treat their work as a big deal and were not applauded as if it was anything more than their duty. The worst cases of radiation sickness were put in isolation for their own safety due to high risk of infection. Not because they were going to make everyone glow. There is little evidence that the Bridge of Death is even factual. The full extent of the fallout has been over exaggerated when in fact there was very minimal loss of life.

The politics 100% were an important aspect of the story, although it exposed exactly the opposite of what the writer intended.

I was thinking the other day how cool it would be to have a modern STALKER game that is open world. I think there is a huge opportunity to do it really really well... and to screw up a wet dream and make it kinda half-assed.

An open, living world, with both static and moving anomalies, without the world transitions of the original game, while keeping the original atmosphere would be really really awesome. To make it really something special, an EFT style weapons handling and sound design + STALKER 2 open, living world, would be absolutely amazing.

The technical descriptions and the actions taken to solve the problems. Maybe some of them were not necessary, like they said the core never burned through the concrete pad making the mining operation possibly unnecessary, but you can't really know stuff like that in advance and the consequences would have been devastating. The roof clearing, that was somewhat based on actual footage. The dust covered firemens clothing. Still can be seen in a basement. The guys that opened the valves, the military guy making the reading. Recovered, mostly, although taking pills. Anyway shit like radiation probably has unforseen long term consequences. they dramatized a lot of things. The reactor problems were not a "state secret" but were commonly known. There were also complaints that the different "classes" of people were not realistically portrayed. People did pretty much what they were told to do without threats and so forth.

Well, to be fair on those two points
1) There was a helicopter crash in real life, but it wasn't the first helicopter, it was weeks later. It clipped its blades on a nearby cable and went down. I dont think it was ever made clear what the condition of the pilot was. And if you watch the HBO series, you can see that they recreate the crash similarly, the helicopter in HBO lazily moves towards a nearby cable, clips its blades, and falls (altough with a lot more smoke from the core)
2) They point out that the lone female physicist represented a larger group of engineers/scientiests at the end.

The conversations about the Chernobyl tv shows and documentaries are off-topic and belong in a separate thread.

also hey guys, no talking about guns, that's off-topic don't make me report you :)

You're kidding, right? The fucking setting for the games is Chernobyl. It doesn't get anymore on-topic than that.

Go play mod somewhere else.

stalker captures the creepy chernonyl atmosphere perfectly. all the deserted abandoned radioactive shit left everywhere. ruined buildings and shacks. government buildings, landmarks, mosaics.
i hope the next game keeps the same atmosphere. metro comes close in some ways but not in others.

Tired of listening to them argue about shit not relevant to the game. It's based on a true story but FICTION.

It’s not exactly up to your sole discretion if it’s relevant. The discussion about the game rather naturally turned to other media based on Chernobyl. (Go figure they’re both fiction)

And frankly not having seen the show but having played the game and worked at nukes and read up various accounts of the Chernobyl incident I enjoy reading other posts and opinions. It’s why I come to this forum there are a lot of intelligent people on here and the discourse is fun to read even if it does beer away from the topic a little bit, that’s something conversation does naturally.

If a mod thinks it’s too far off they will make that call, if they think it’s still a good topic though they might rip the thread into two separate ones. But they are capable of taking care of it. If it bothers you so much send a mod a PM asking for their judgment. Jesus.

Whelp......I’m well enough off topic now to be reprimanded :( whatever.

Loved the stalker games though only ever really put a lot of play time into the first game. CoP and Clear Skies I just didn’t have the same amount of free time (or half decent PC) to play them with. Also was a little disinterested with the slightly overbearing faction mechanics.

I'm hoping for a complete remaster of the first 3 games myself. Multithreaded and some upgrades to the poly-count/textures would probably be enough to be candidate for GOTY for 2020.

Hell, if we get a full remake aka FF7 I'd probably cream my pants just from the announcement.

Fired up the old install of Stalker, started playing it from the beginning.

It's playing just fine for me, running it at 3440x1440. Only issue so far is that at a 21:9 aspect ratio, the intro cutscene was stretched and not correctly aspected. First mission was as hard as I remember it (get flash drive from Nimble) and took about 10 or 15 tries. Got it on Master difficulty. Was a bit tough getting through the checkpoint under the railroad too. But I got a nice selection of weapons now, chasing down the third step in the quests.. been doing the side quests also, 3 for the guy in the camp,1 for nimble (save him don't shoot him), plus all the caches revealed after searching dead guys... It's been so long since I played this but I am remembering where some caches and artifacts are. But can't remember yet how to get thru the electrified tunnel or if I even need to.

I think I am going to finish it again... now if I can remember the required step to get the good ending.. :)

You either kill the soldiers guarding the railroad bridge, or pay them off, to get through. You can make it through the tunnel with the electrical anomalies....just have to time it right.

I haven't built a new computer in like 6 years but the prospect of a STALKER 2 is pretty much singlehandedly renewing my interest in PC gaming.

Too bad the game isn't scheduled to be out before 2021, there's a lot of renewed interest in Chernobyl from the miniseries which could have been cashed in on.

I guess trips to chernobyl are fully booked and quite a lot more expensive than when I was there in 2015.
Was a great experience to roam around in pripyat, and to stand just 200 meters from the sarcophagus.
Cant see it now though. They covered it up with the new cointainment unit late 2015.
Would strongly reccomend a trip if you are interested, but beware, the food and the people suck.

New S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 details surfaced!!!

Damn I'm excited for this, loved the series and actually just finished COP a couple weeks ago.

"The main inspiration for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is the original trilogy (Shadow of Chernobyl, Clear Sky and Call of Pripyat) and its main feature will be its unique atmosphere."

The atmosphere was (when originally played years ago) what got me the most, such a amazing feeling exploring in the zone!

Super modder friendly! - "GSC GameWorld is also working on making modding tools so that modders can start creating new content when the game comes out."

and it will have no fucking Battle Royale mode!!!

This is incredible, I've been talking to my friend about this series for a while now. Now we get a new game to discuss!!

Sorry man, but STALKER was some the most unique, brilliant gameplay on the PC that has come out since Gothic. I only encountered the unforgiving weapons early on so the scenario you claim made you quite the game is probably a bit over the top, but there was no doubt that you would miss quite a bit where they could nail from across the map it seemed at times. Please tell me a similar game that you don't think sucks. Always curious when I hear these complaints.

I cannot name a similar game that doesn't suck but because they all seem to play like shit. I want the same atmosphere with an id Software movement/gun play.

I don't want realism in my games. Don't want my character to walk and run like a real person. Don't want them to get tired. Expect the character to JUMP when I press the jump button, not half a second later. Don't want useless weapons. Don't want the game to ignore my cross hair. Don't want realism in my games. Not that kind of realism anyways.

id Software gets it. Others used to get it, too.

Different strokes for different folks, doesn’t mean the game plays like shit though. I don’t care for serious fighting games, I don’t run around proclaiming them to suck or play like shit because they aren’t Smash Bros. (Which I quit caring for after Melee actually)

...I don't want realism in my games. Don't want my character to walk and run like a real person. Don't want them to get tired...

Then yeah, this isn't the game for you.

Plenty of room in the market for games of all types.

Yeah, I discovered that on my own 12 years ago. I was hoping for a change.\

There may be "plenty of room" but most games don't play the way I want them to. Most of what's released today is RPG :(

eh, all games do things differently. the fun aspect of stalker for me was gathering relics to provide healing and radiation resistance, and then getting top tier weapons and being able to absolutely nuke enemies. Stealth was kind of an iffy thing in the game but it is lots of fun say to take out the military base next to the starting area. And then you collect weapons and ammo for sale. Metro Exodus comes somewhat close to this with their latest game but it really isn't the same. It is more "open worldish" than open world.

You need to check your PDA for tasks, and pay attention to how much time remains to both complete the task as well as turn it in for the reward/payment. I know my first time I played, many the time just ran out. Once you get used to checking that, it's much easier.

never played the first one . seemed to complicated to me at the time
Since I was expecting the original stalker to be more like a traditional FPS I got frustrated with it at first (think dgz's post) Dying was just stupid easy without a tip toe / surviavalist approach. I also didnt feel there was enough direction provided by the game. But thats eventually what ended up sucking me in.

What are you doing bringing me all this shit...

Some pretty good stuff you've got there.
