the past 2 years my moto x pure has really slowed down. opening the play music app takes like 5 seconds sometimes and other apps do too. keyboard opening is laggy. so is unlocking the phone, sometimes it takes 2 seconds for the apps to show up. it will just show my wallpaper, lol.

I've cleared the cache partition and the internal shared storage cached data. that helps for a day. the only apps I really use on the phone are play music, firefox, strava, gmail, and facebook. I have a 60gb sd card that has 32 gb worth of pics, videos, and music. 25gb of it is music. the card isn't formatted as internal. I'm using 8gb of the 9.5gb internal storage. and the phone is using 2gb of the 2.5gb total ram. I think the only option is to do a factory restore.

I unmounted the sd card but I dont think performance changed much. oddly opening multiple apps consecutively kinda speeds things up. if i have not used the phone for awhile, thats when its really slow.

I mean... It's a 4 year old phone that's using a mid range CPU, and the ram is kind of low for modern devices. I'd try a full wipe of the phone and start fresh, it should speed things up noticably.

Is this the original 2013 Moto X Pure? There was a 2014 and 2015 model as well as I recall, but regardless it's quite possible that with how old it is now, that the eMMC/NAND memory has degraded to a point to where you're seeing drastically lower read/write speeds that would give you the performance you're seeing. But I'd say your only chance at reviving it would be a factory reset and seeing how it performs after that.

I would recommend replacing it with either a newer Moto G or Pixel 3a if you can swing that.

its the 2015 model. I want to wait till the end of the year to upgrade. ran Antutu benchmark today and got 78695. the avg for this model is 87775. the ram score is 1786, rom score 2822. I dont know if the ram and rom scores are avg or below. I'll try a factory reset tonight or tomorrow.

The reset should fix it up real good...at least untill you reinstall the apps that are bogging down the phone...i wouldnt be surprised if the fb app is using up all the memory and or resources

like this
for whatever reason when I unmounted the sd card yesterday to see if performance was improved it screwed something up and the phone decides to unmount it on its own and doesn't see it available to mount unless I reboot it. its done it 3 times so far. found other people with the same problem. and a new sd card doesn't fix it. guess its restore or trash time.

edit: damn I think my sd card might be going bad. I'm trying to copy the files to my pc and its hanging up all the time. theres a few videos and songs that it wont play or copy

I miss those Moto X phones from 4-5 years ago. They were basically a Nexus/Pixel with slower updates, but better build quality.

factory reset really helped. sd card had issues too so I got a new one.

Damn. Thought Moto pure died long ago. Turns out still usable.
