That's cool and will help with GPUs like 2080/2080 Ti when HDMI 2.1 displays become available or if you want to run more than one of them simultaneously. We are unlikely to see 240 Hz 4K screens anytime soon though.

I hope the adapter works as advertised and also handles things like HDCP, HDR and VRR properly.

HDMI 2.1 Displays are available.
LIke LG C9 -series OLED-televisions, LG SM9000/9500/9800 -series nano-IPS -televisions (Direct-lit, Full Array Local Dimming, VCC, 4K@120Hz, ALLM= Auto Low Latency Mode etc.).
Officially, they cannot claim 2.1 compatibility, as certification program for HDMI 2.1 is not yet available. For LG HDMI2.1 televisions, official support for HTMI2.1 will be provided with forthcoming software updates.

They're HDMI 2.1 ready. That's a term that's fine and they're using it in marketing.
