A local is selling a few of these drives "sealed" but I cant find much about it. Makes me wonder how old this model is or if any issues were found and was removed from the market or something weird going on.

Ah makes sense now. Well he is asking $100 each so I guess I will grab one and see. Thanks!!

I own 8 of the seagate 4TB drives in RAID5 setups. 5 of the normal NAS variety (ST4000VN000) (designed for 24/7 but run lower power) and 3 more are the higher performance more enterprise focus models (must have airflow). (ST4000NM0033)
No issues with any of the drives. I have had 3 of them for 5 years, 2 more are about 2 years old and the last 3 for 6 months.
For the cheaper consumer drives you might have issues with certain HW or mobo RAID depending on the firmware. But otherwise all of these models should do well in SW raid if you take care of them properly (mounting, airflow).
I think at least some of the 8TB models are built in about the same way so should have decent reliability as well. But for the larger capacity drives you start to get into different drive technology that most of us here haven't used much yet as its still new... (new helium filled drives, etc)

I ended up buying 2 and they are great. Wish I had gotten at least one more.
Thanks guys!
