Who's planning to buy 5700(?) GPU

Why do you want HDMI 2.1 for 4K/120 or 8K for a video card that can't hit those specs when gaming. If it's for media, what TV/monitor supports it. I'm all about new faster interfaces but there's no point in buying a product for a future proof interface when the device itself can't use it. i.e. buying the 5700/XT for PCIE 4.0 or a 2060 for Ray Tracing.
With less demanding games you can. And screw running 6 or 8 bit nastiness.

Interface has been the main thing stopping me from dropping cash on a good monitor which I'd expect to last 1 or 2 GPU upgrades with...
40"+ 4k 120 10 bit, HDR icing on the cake.
Is it too hard to ask for? Many of us have asked ASUS at the higher levels to do this for years and they still have not delivered yet. Hurry up you slack cunts. Realtek had a chipset for this year or more ago and it's still not in your damn screens.
 
If they doubled the CUs and added a splash of RT I’d buy two.
 
I'm excited to see what the new rdna plus pcie 4 can deliver.

The bond between the two is that AMD specified that Navi RDNA has performance gains when paired with pcie4.0. It's not a guess as to whether or not it can saturate bandwidth or if it is needed. It was specifically mentioned that the architecture is vastly more powerful over pcie4.

I'm probably going to get one. I'm not comparing to rx cards pound for pound.
 
I would like to see CX and Sli tested on the new PCI 4.0 as to see if anything could be gained as no need of ribbons anymore as always another path for cheaper 4K gaming with more firepower to offer in gpu load .

It's the software. We know that nearly all major engine developers have patched in or are working on support but it's not clear how many games have actually received those implementations, nor how well they work in terms of frametimes. Further, we're not going to eliminate frame lag or stuttering until split-frame rendering becomes a well-implemented solution.
 
I was planning to put together a Ryzen 3000 system. GPUs haven't really been all that impressive for awhile now. I was considering putting a vega 56 in as they are floating around new and cheap where I am. However if the 5700 is reasonably close and not twice the price I might pull the trigger.
 
I may get a 5700 XT after selling the Vega FE's. Better performance, lower energy cost and heat and some new features would be the reason. Have to think about it, pissed off at AMD with the Vega FE's and drivers.

It was quite surprising that usual AMD AIB partners did not announce custom RX 5700 versions when AMD unveiled the Radeon RX 5700 series, which moved us to ask around and some partners confirmed they are working hard and expect them on retail/e-tail shelves in mid-August, at least if all goes well with design and supply. Of course, we expect announcements from usual suspects in July.

I think AMD will hold its minor $$ advantage for its first run as planned. AMD fans will be happy to get them at that price and will sell well. Come September on through to the holiday buying season there will be aggressive price cuts for the masses. For those who don't care about RTX (and as a RTX 2080 owner I can't blame, there's no games!) a very competitively priced AMD product in the mid range should do well when consistently under pricing Nvidia.
If I was building a mid-range gaming PC for a friend this is probably the route I would go. RT is very limited at all but the higher sku's. So wouldn't waste budget and grab Navi at lower pricing levels.
 
I was considering a Navi before the launch. However, I don't feel its worth it. I have twin Vega Frontier 16gb. I'll keep hanging on until the replacement for Vega VII happens.

If you are running your HBM @ 1050~1100Mhz like you should then it is most likely will not be worth it unless Navi has an insane OC headroom or spends most of it's time at the sweet ~1900Mhz gaming clock. I would expect them to do 2.1+ on golden dies with watercooling,.

My Vega FEs memory OCs better than the Vega 64 LC even with being double the amount. The Vega FEs are great cards minus the crap drivers for gaming unless you go through some hoops that may or may not work out. Do agree for gaming one probably will not notice much difference between the two.
 
I can't help it this guy has some weird thoughts and rants to match it but I still find it funny. This time he tries to make sense of how to still buy something that comes very close to Navi performance but it is Vega and currently priced very attractive.

If one is an overclocker on a budget, loves to play around with power play tables, coolers, bios - Vega 56 is probably the best card ever produced to do this. Hardware Heaven got one at 2070 performance if not better. It is kinda sad that AMD gave up the fun part of multiple bioses, easy to modify power play tables etc. with Navi.

Given the issues Nvidia had with GDDR6, perhaps, and I'm just taking a WAG here, AMD did not want users to mod things that could create issues with the cards and thus give it the "AMD SUCKZ BALLZ BUY NVIDIA 1050Ti instead I get 100 FPS maxed out Every game!"...

Otherwise, I see no reason for it unless Navi can indeed be make to hit insane clock speeds with a TON of extra Voltage/current and AMD wants to keep something in the tank for a possible 5800 series to counter Nvidia's Super refresh.


AMD could always go back and allow it to happen. They could market it as a "we listen to the community and realize you all love to tweak our cards etc etc". Kinda like they did with the announcement of Pro drivers for the VII.

I still think that little die under water is going to FLY if AMD gives it enough power via their typically overbuilt reference PCBs..Just keeping the core clock locked at the "Boost" clock of 1950Mhz all the time coupled with a mild memory OC (GDDR6 should have the same headroom it does on Nvidia's cards) and you will see it close to a stock VII/1080TI OC'd/2080 at stock.

Yeah I was really bummed. Honestly that was the only reason I went with Radeon VII over a 2080. Having to solder a card isn’t ideal for me.

You are correct, and I should have said "most likely culprit" considering Nvidia did not do a massive recall or release a redesigned board. The only thing changed was the Vendor supplying the DRAM and now quite a large amount of batches from both Samsung and Micron (again) unless I am mistaken on them being a second source supplier.

Edit:. I am aware there were some early Samsung equipped cards that failed. I hate using this forum on Mobile. Stupid Mobile FireFox has been running like crap on my Pixel XL no matter what I do to fix it.

I actually stopped into a Best Buy the last time I was in the city to buy a Pixel 3a XL as a hold over but they can not keep the non Verizon branded ones in stock and I will NEVER own another phone that came from Verizon.

Those settlement checks cannot come soon enough considering I am due 3 of them at $500 and $350(x2).
 
If my OG Pixel would die, I'd get a 3a... depending on what they do with the 4, may wait for that. Somewhat annoyed that they can't put a headphone jack on the premium phone.

We agree 100%! The reason I considered the 3A is that it is basically a brand new verison of what I have with double the storage and a better camera setup. The SD CPU in that is 95% as fast as a SD820, so it should perform about the same.

I feel really torn about rewarding Google again, but pure Android just works and I love the security updates every month, on time even on a phone that is almost 2.6 years old. The fact Google is paying me to basically buy it helps a bit lol.


My speaker/speakerphone is completely dead now, it's hard to hear with the phone up to your ear (and I have excellent hearing still at 36 I'm a freak lol) abd the screen sensor is randomly turning the screen off even though it is not blocked.

I can hit the power button or sensor and it comes right back on. It works fine on calls and YT etc with a headset, and I love my HD 598s for around the house tunes too much to go back to BT or want to mess with a dongle. I get up at 430 and by noon battery is usually down to 50%

Wouldn't Vega 64 be even better for all that and while at it much easier to hit and/or surpass 2070 performance?

We will see how well Navi overclocks when it comes out. Not all hope is lost ; )

BTW. Can Radeon VII overclock like batshit crazy also?

If on a tight budget 56, got some wiggle room and a great deal a 64 should do fine. Newegg has 56's for $269 (seen better) and 64's are close to $400. They are now profitable to mine so these will probably start to disappear quick. There are better cards to mine with so that may not be the case. Buying a used one's is also an option, AMD cards in general are built uber tough/good, even if mined on they will probably outlive any usefulness in the long run, unless they were totally abused (which for a miner would be totally pointless since lowering power levels, voltages, keeping it cool gave better results).

Vega 56 OC'd abd cooled with a $50 AIO will get you to 2070 levels if you are comfortable pushing an insane amount of current through it. The reference boards are more then capable of 400A, but I can not say how long the card would last.

If you gamed on it for 3-4 hours a day 4-5 days a week I'd wager it would last at least a few years. The advantage of VEGA is that the AIO cools both the GPU die and your HBM stacks, ehcih are the important parts to keep cool.

As for a 56 vs a 64, I'd take the 56 and OC it and bank the difference. VII can OC very well, especially on water. It's crazy seeing 1.2TB/s of memory bandwidth.

Similarly the CPU industry has seemingly hit a wall where there are now only micro-incremental increases in IPC and more cores. 1-200 MHz mattered a lot in the day but now the diff is a joke. The GPU stagnation is sad. The PC stagnation is sad.
I have spent near 20 years as a hobby enjoying the ride. The ride seems to have broken tracks. More $$ for baby steps. Is this what a lock down on IP has brought us?
Looking at prices for GPU tech is sad. Three year old tech, that was only a power savings on older tech, should be dirt cheap. Is it? Nope! Both Co's are still pricing ancient tech for 100's!
Somethings wrong. Moore's law kicking in across the board?
Well at least we are still making trips to the moon and we are all getting 100's of MPG/KPG in our cars right?

All I can say is that when it comes to marketing corporations have found out that people will still pay stupid amounts of money for the same thing just with a different designation and that the market on CPU and GPU is so saturated with people buying from just one brand because they have limited to no knowledge about technology that they figured out that there all sheep and they will sell you "performance" and make you pay for it.

By no longer having an effect on the market the marketing people decided to go with the flow so no longer are they trying to sell you price performance ratio but just a brackets of higher performance and making the case that if you want the big boy stuff you need to pay the big boy fee for their products otherwise you are not cool enough to hang out with them .....

Guess what the masses keep buying this and most people who know their stuff can't make a dent for the marketing to care about us ....
