I have. Very old swiftech MCP655 pump in my rig. I've been running it hard for about 12 years now. I got it off eBay used with a busted impeller (bearing cup shot) and a fellow member here sold me the impeller out of his dead pump for nearly nothing. Good bless him, and I'm not even religious! Who knows what this pump went through before I had it. It certainly owes me nothing!

But alas, I am now having some faint ticking out of it. Kinda like a fan with a bad bearing. I'm quite experienced with machines and I don't think there's any mistaking it. The bearing in the pump is going to pack it in any time now.

So here's where I need help. Getting the same pump is not an option, there's nowhere to buy it here (Canada). Buying across border isn't worth it. I'd like to keep the same pump since its performed so well for so long.

From what I can tell, this is a D5 style of pump. I'm guessing I can simply get the motor and impeller assembly and then swap it into my old swiftech housing. I'm looking for some confirmation and more info here.

I notice there are several brands of D5s. What's a good one to get? What to stay away from? Will it be as reliable as my swiftech has been?

Thanks guys. I think I got mine before they were being called D5 pumps.

I have one of the old swiftech vario MCP655s ~maybe even the same style you used to have (just the pump with no casing/o-ring)
Would have to figure out shipping to Canada, but I'd take some "Good Blessing" :p.
The thing is pretty old and has probably about 10k hours on it, but has been sitting sealed in a ziplock bag since then (I tested it and it does spin up, will have to run it through a half hour test just to make sure if i can find a block to put it in).

Shoot me a PM with your postal code and I'll get you some costs/pictures.

Wow that's hard to refuse. [H] rocks yet again!

I am still interested to know if a D5 motor assembly could simply be dropped into the old housing. I suspect it could....but the only way to confirm is to buy one.

It most likely could.

Fine on air for now...I do have that New Wicked China Pump though...that one does have a hell of a motor on it too/800L/H etc...Need to try it.

I'm pretty sure all D5 style pumps are manufactured by the same manufacturer regardless of who sells it. The main differences are the electronic controls.

There's something about these forums where people tend to donate their old stuff. Its pure awesome.

My current pump was an eBay dump and run. The bearing cup in the impeller was off centre, totally useless. Someone here sold me theirs out of their dead pump for $20 shipped to Canada. In other words, he made nothing off it. Over 12 years later and its still running but questionable.

Now this kind member is mailing me a spare motor and impeller assembly for the same deal! Spare parts is always good.

My hat is off to you sir.

And then Murphys law will kick in and my rad will spring a leak.
