HDMI splitter

It really depends on what you're going to use it for. For some basic 1080p/60hz/2d , medium-short distance, just about any 1.4 spec will likely work with similar cables. The closer you get to 4k/4:4:4/HDR and all the bells and whistles you can cram into a stream then it can become crucial to pick the right one since those kinds of devices are far from all the same. Not to mention the right cables as signal loss or degradation can happen when you complicate the plumbing. When that happens the various 'handshakes' will have issues.

edit: Back around 10 years ago I got a basic a/b switch from BB. Cost around $20-30 back then. Worked great for a 1080P t.v. and projector. Moving into the 4k era and things are a bit more demanding.

Thanks.

I am using it for 4k to my projector then the other cable to my TV. That way I don't have to disconnect and reconnect HDMI cables from the back of the projector and tv every time. The end that won't get disconnected and will be split is the back of my video card HDMI port.

Thanks.

I tried to do this and it was such a pita, even with an HDMI switch.
It would sometimes not work and had a nasty side effect of shrinking all the windows to around 640x480 pixels some time after screen power saving activated (when the PC wasnt in use). When the video out powered up again, everything was shrunk and placed in the top left of the screen, incredibly annoying.
In the end I used shorter HDMI extensions from both the projector and TV placed near where I sit and an HDMI lead from the PC.
To change between projector and TV I leaned over and swapped the connection to the other extension.
There wasnt ever a need for the TV and projector to be used at the same time.

This was before I got a lag free AVR amp with multiple HDMI 2.0b in/out.
I would wait a couple of years before taking this route if you can hang on, HDMI 2.1 devices will become common place and not so expensive, you are sure to want it in a few years.

Make sure to get good quality cables. I have a both a switch (5x1) and a matrix (4x2) and thought my hardware was faulty until I changed out my hdmi cables. Now all my devices switch properly and don't go crazy when I power on more than console at a time.

So what cables did you end up going with Majinhoju ?

I'm using these for the most part. For 4k high grade cables, they didn't break the bank either.

Using the random hdmi cables I collected over years just gave me too many headaches. They're perfectly fine for anything that's just connecting 1 device directly to a screen, but add a splitter/switch in the mix that adds any cable length you need a decent cable.

I've actually got the same kind of setup in our living room. For years I tried approaching this on the cheap side but the more features they crammed into the stream the demanding it got for a trouble free solution. Any time something wasn't right I had signal drop outs. I've now got a closet full of various sizes and specs HDMI cables.

SInce I was going to upgrade my A/V receiver I ended up getting an Onkyo that has two 2.0b outs. The 2 HDMI out option is actually becoming a lot more common for these exact situations from numerous manufacturers. I've got our receiver next to the t.v. and then the cable running to the projector has to cover about 30 feet once I factor in the distance down from the receiver, across the room, and up the wall to it. I ran it under a carpet and a table, couches to minimize the about of space it might get walked on.

After trying many, many, cables I settled on a 30" optical HDMI that I got from monoprice awhile back and it's worked perfectly for our 4k DVD player. The catch here is that 4k Discs output at 24fps, not 60 even though they handshake at 60hz. It's not cheap but at the time I got it one sale for $119 but presently it's listed as $150, at the time Amazon wanted nearly $200 for a similar one. If you're interested I suggest searching for coupons/discounts for mono as they're pretty common. https://www.monoprice.com/product?c_id=301&cp_id=10240&cs_id=3010101&p_id=21566&seq=1&format=2. Our projector is an Epson 4k/HDR/4:4:4 and I've verified thru the receiver that it's getting the full signal. Handshakes take a little longer than just being connected to the t.v. but I haven't had any issues.

I've got one of my rigs with this cable, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075N83B9X/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 , hooked directly to the project for 4k 60fps/ 4:4:4 / 8 bit / HDR and it too has worked perfectly but I'm swapping cables like you because my rig is on the same side of the room as the projector and the projector only has one 'true' 4k input but the receiver is on the other and 6ft seems to be close to the limit you can go for 60fps signal with all the 4k bells and whistles. I've thought about moving the receiver to the other side then I'd have to redo all my speaker wires.

Monoprice does also have a pretty extensive list of switches and splitters but I would chat with a rep before purchasing as they won't all work for something like this. I last tried one about 2 years ago that didn't and the rep was very patient and even set up an rma for me. At the time he explained they didn't have anything that was up to that kind of spec but it's possible something has come out by now. I, of course, always compared prices to Amazon and NewEgg but at the time Mono sometimes beat both by almost 1/2 of a price difference. If you do go this route you'll want to emphasize these specs since you're using a pc- 4k/4:4:4/60hz/HDR/48Gbps. I can all but guarantee that anything less will have issues.
