Zen 2 on an X470 mobo - what do you lose?

From what I've read, you lose PCIe 4.0, you lose 5GHz memory support, and you lose a tiny chipset fan.

I could absolutely do without all three of those things on my upcoming 3800X/3900X system, but is there anything else I would be missing out on if I snagged an X470 board?

You only lose functionality coming from the X570 chipset, so you do not lose PCI-E 4.0 completely, just on the slots from the chipset. There also might be new "special" features, like StoreMI was special to B450/X470.

depends what board it is, some will have pcie 4.0 support from the cpu.. you'll lose the chipset pcie 4.0 but really it comes down to what features you need want.. outside of that no one really knows what else you might lose with it. highly recommend reading the specs on the board though and make sure it has the VRM's to handle a 3800x/3900x.

Yep, regardless of which chipset I choose, overbuilt VRMs will be high on the priority list!

Thanks for the input. I was getting antsy since I don't see any X570 boards I like yet, but I should really wait for everything to launch before I decide.

yeah i'd just wait, pre-orders should go up between july 1st and july 7th where you'll see a lot more.. i'm probably just going to go with the 3600x so i'm also waiting to see what features i'll lose if i stick with my 370 taichi otherwise i'll probably upgrade. there's a crap load of x570 boards being released though so it'll be interesting to see.
