So I will eventually build a pfsense rig after I finish installing adn moving other hardware around but I still need 2 AP points in my house. What are my options besides the R7000?

What are the newer options over the R7000 for wifi APs? I know there are some new wifi standards coming out but are those finalized yet or am I better off just getting another R7000 and wait for those things to be fleshed out?

Ubiquiti Unifi AP. NanoHD, Lite, LR, or any of them. Choose the size/range/frequencies you're looking for. I briefly compare the price of an ubiquiti AP to others in my guide:

thanks for the reply. That wifi AP point seems meh for what i need/want (live in a large house so range and speed of AP is important. I am just using 2 APs even with R7000)

You might want to check out the LR version. Which stands for Long Range. A couple of those should do much better than R7000. The look is cleaner, and can be better placed since it can be mounted on any ceiling. Which is a major drawback of your current R7000.

Just on the fact that you can ceiling mount these APs, you should gain better coverage (unless somehow, you're currently centrally installing your R7000s). If you're worried about the house being large and coverage not being enough, you can start with one of these, then add another if you need to: https://store.ui.com/collections/wireless/products/unifi-ac-lr
It's the updated model with AC. Much better investment than any consumer-grade router/AP, including what you already own

No worries.

A couple things that are different from other manufacturers:
-the newest firmware isn't always the most stable. Even though it's listed as "stable", doesn't mean for your particular AP (Lite, LR, etc).

-another note is that to configure it, you'll need to install the software on a PC or server of yours. Or, you can grab the additional Cloud Key, which runs the same software for you on a small connected device sold by Ubiquiti.

I just bought the R6700 off amazon. It was daily deal for 65 bucks or something. I'll just replace that R7000 with the R6700 until I get aroudn to the PFsense build and I cna now troubleshoot to see if my 10GbE switch is either bad or it was the router kicking out bad IPs
