Car Mount That Isn't Awful

I have this right now, and like the half dozen mounts I had before it, it worked great initially but they all eventually repeatedly come loose and fall off my dash while I'm driving.

Can anyone recommend a good one (I have a Pixel 3 XL)? I don't have a CD slot, so those types are out. I looked at a couple that use the AC vents but I would think those would be less sturdy than a regular top-of-dashboard one?

Thanks.

I have used a few of the ones meant for vents and I was never happy with them. Some came loose (likely a brand issue) but most would bend the vent louvers.

I grabbed one of those magneto shits, the type that either goes on a vent or has a mount that sticks to the dash. Super reliable, wife uses it right now.

I live in Texas, I want all my vents unobstructed.

I had three others before the best I've had so far the Cuphone. A little pricey, but its still strong and has outlasted the others.

I don't think I'd be able to get used to looking down at my cupholder. I usually keep it in my line of sight or slightly off to the right.

Driving to the Microcenter in Dallas yesterday is what spawned this thread. My mount fell off twice. :(

Sounds like the ProClip is the winner. Thanks everyone.

ProClip is a winner. I picked up a metal bracket they made for my dash that was fantastic. It was designed to be installed by removing some dash trim around the AC controls, then threading the screws that mount those AC controls through holes in the proclip, and then re-installing the dash trim. I'm not sure they do that anymore, but it gave a nice firm metal bracket with several standard-ish holes that fit all sorts of different mounts, including garmin balls and various cell phone swivel "buttons" over the years.

Best ever? Not at all, but it gets the job done. I use it with a XR. This allows me to use the lightning port to attach my in audio cable in the car. Which is why I got a wireless charging mount in the first place. I find that it charges a bit slow on the iPhone (I imagine this is because it's at 5w). But it's "good enough". XR battery life is already all day.

Other notes, It works a lot better with vents you can really jam the clip into. I actually have mine going in at like a 45 degree angle so that it has the maximum surface area to grip onto. If you have a "deeper vent" I imagine you won't have to do that hack.

I also like that it blows air over my phone, being in a vent and all. Will come in hand with the AC blasting on it during the summer months to prevent overheating, which will definitely happen in other dash or top mounted situations.

Having a small area of stationary glass on the side windows up next to the A-pillar to stick it on, this works great with my huge S8+ in an otterbox defender. I don’t know how well it sticks on a dash though, so YMMV. Looks super clean and phone just slaps on/off.
