Texas expected to ban red light cameras

First results in bold of google... pasted below.

The red light camera went off. ... "Drivers are only ticketed via the camera system for entering the intersection after the light has turned RED. If you enter a photo red light intersection on a green oryellow light you will not be ticketed by the camerasystem.

Because human made systems are infallible, right?

If you believe them, lol. People in real life have gotten tickets for being in the intersection before the light turns red.

I did pass on a yellow that turned red in Vancouver and got nothing. Also I would contest one since you get the pictures anyway ?
I won't argue that error may happen but it's up to you to reverse it.

Anyway, people here seems to blame the other for braking so why would they not blame the light for passing on it ? euh
You should keep 3 seconds between you and the car in front and be vigilant. There's no reason to rear end someone, it's solely on you.

Today with Waze, I also think it's on you for passing on a red light camera, I mean comeon, there's reported everywhere...

What do canadian cameras have to do with this? Different country different rules. I mean canadian drivers don;t even know what mph means on a speed limit sign.

Where I live red light cameras are very rare but they do exist. However, the driver always knows about it. There's multiple obvious signs to alert you. Doesn't really bother me when its done this way.

More speed cameras will be installed no doubt to make up for the shortfall in revenue. Combine this with sections of road that drop the speed limit for half a mile (where the camera is) and you have a cash cow.

This what drives me insane. They don't have cameras here but there are cops stationed there all the time. That is nothing more then entrapment and should be illegal.

Sorry I didn't realize I wasn't allowed to post anything if it's not related to the US, even for comparison
And why the hell would you say we don't know what mph means, you think we're retarded ? Anyway, I won't fall that low.

For you to read, they do mention difference between countries etc; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_light_camera

Red light camera should emit ticket (reviewed first) only when you engage on red. There has been instance where they found that they shortened the yellow and when proven, the drivers were refunded.
For sure there is the perfect and the worst scenario. Given the numbers in service and the fact that they are advertised and reported on many GPS application... I don't see much problem with the current system IF implemented properly.

The problem with the current system is that it doesn't do the job it's ostensibly intended to do: make roads safer.

It's never been about safety. It's always been about ROI for local governments.

I get that but the problem if it's not safer is mainly because people follow too close to each other (My opinion here).
I was amazed at how fast and close people were driving when I visited California (also amazed at how many car parts there's on the side road from rear ending lol).

I think that every solution is bound to fail with such driving habits. Maybe putting speed and red light camera with no warning sign before would fix it but people would just live in constant fear lol.
Self-driving car (final product) can't come fast enough but even then, the day when it's mandatory is still very far.

Yes, and while those driving habits are illegal, people still break the law. So, clearly, the threat of fines isn't a sufficient deterrent.

The threat of fines isn't a sufficient deterrent, AND red light cameras have been proven to incentivize even riskier driving habits.

So... yeah. They're useless except for generating revenue for the government.

Next at 5PM, they install camera to measure distance between cars on streets. LOL

The worst thing about red light cameras is
I'm going to add my "worst thing", and that's the privatitation if fines. Red light cameras aren't owned by the local government, a 3rd party leases them to the department, and these contracts typically are for a cut of all the proceeds that are gotten by the tickets that are issued. So they have an incentive to make sure people get ticketed and fined. I get that tickets are supposed to discourage a behavior, but 100% of that money needs to go to the local government, much like with the prison system of this country there should not be any private enterprise's hands in the pockets of the justice/punishment system for this country anywhere regardless of the "cost savings"

This will, God willing, come with self driving cars.

That's what will actually lower deaths in motor vehicles. Also, we'll all get where we're trying to go faster.
