That's a whole lot of nonsense there.
If I had to choose between who's spying, NSA or China, I'd rather have China as they are not as paranoid as the US which has reach into EU.

Also, bans like this need to be regional. If Google has to ban Huawei because the US says so, it should be US only.
The US is not the whole world. I can understand that China has become arrogant, but what Trump is doing is causing all kind of problems not for China but the whole world.

This will have big consequences on the US as well especially since Huawei is buying products worth $50bil+ from the US. Not to mention pissing off some very powerful allies in the west.
This whole trade war has its reason and I also think there should be action against China because they block a lot of western infuence. But not like this. This is extreme and it's going to backfire on the US and we'll see in the end if it's gonna be worth it.
I can guarantee you one thing. You and me as customers are going to get the short stick. Shit, we're already getting it because P30 Pro is the best phone you can buy right now. It's better than Samsung and it's better than Apple.

Also, there has been an update to the development as expected. First a big scare and basically making all future Huawei phones into expensive bricks and door holders, then "hey we're gonna ease on and lift the ban temprorarily until mid August and let's see if you behave".
It's basically just a showoff what you can do to make someone compliant. We'll see in a few months how Huawei will adapt.

Has it occurred to you that the only reason the Huawei phones you and others are so enamored of exist in the first place is because China stole quite a bit of the technology included in them? They didn't have to spend research money to make the products so the cost is peanuts in comparison. That's why they're able to sell phones cheap. That's why they're able to make them in the first place. It's the same with most of the rest of the products they sell.

If you and others understood even the most basic consequences of what has been going on you wouldn't be making such obviously ill-informed arguments.

Stole tech as oppose to buy it.
Apple buys it, Huawei can only steal it got it.

I dont think Apple get enough credit. Sure they buy out companies and tech but they also pretty much started what we know as the smart phone of today not to mention building an OS from scratch to suit. Google gets similar props for Android.

I like devices and my iPhone battery is pretty pathetic for a model introduced in 2017, etc. but this is pretty dramatic. It's better metal and glass to watch videos and take pictures?

Substituting Google is not impossible. But at least in EU, nobody will buy a phone without Play Store.
About 5 or 6 years ago, no play store was tricky to get around.
I used to refuse to give google an email address or login to track with and had to find apks the hard way.

Now almost everything is available off the store via APK, it's almost easier than the play store, especially if it's something banned/taken down or no longer available.. not having the play store might stop idiots but not anyone with some slight amount of technological nuance.

The NSA doesn't threaten to murder entire families back home of expats that attend religious events in other countries.

If you think so

Just don't tell my boss that I don't know what I'm talking about. He might take away my Top Secret security clearance and fire me from my 40 year career as an intelligence and cyber professional :sneaky:

Let me let you in on a secret, that isn't a secret. Every country in the world, every single one, spies on everyone else that they have the capacity to spy on.

Some do it differently, but they all do it. If you think this isn't true, then you have two choices;

You can continue as you are, put no effort into it, and it's OK, it'll probably all work out for you anyway.

Or, You can look into it, it won't be hard, there is more than enough information available on the subject.

As a result of your efforts, or lack there of, You will either be wiser and more informed, or remain as you are. If you are happy as you are and think that there is nothing more in the world worth learning, then I applaud you, You've won the game.

Good day.

EDIT:
You are not getting it. The US is banning the transfer of US tech, from US companies, to Chinese companies.

Without that tech, the products sold by the Chinese companies will not have the same capabilities as their competition's products. If China steals the tech, the US will figure it out and block these products from talking with the US owned products. The US will also claim that the products use stolen tech and sue any companies that bought them to prevent them from being used. We are talking about network switches, routers, and other equipment, not banning the sale of cell phones, or trying to ban the sale of HuaWei products overseas.

How exactly is pulling Android license going to stop Huawei from selling switches, routers and other equipment?
Pulling Android license sounds very much like trying to ban the sale of future cell phones by Huawei - all over the world since every single Huawei phone sold everywhere in the world is running on - *drum roll* - Android.

Sure, I'm not denying they stole the tech. If competition gave me their own equipment to produce, I would me an idiot not to look into how it's developed.
The fact is, Huawei P30 Pro is the best phone out there. It's miles better than anything US mobile maker(s) have provided thus far. Sounds to me like the west is pissed off because they now trailing behind China.
I can understand that as well. But bitching about China while freely handing over stuff is one's own fault.
Trade war between US and China is fine, I don't care as I live in neither countries. But being an international company and fucking up for the rest of the world because the US fucked up (like always, Vietnam, Middle East, etc all backfiring), now that pisses me off.

Pulling Android license from Huawei, the mobile phone company is once again just a collateral damage of banning transfer of ANY US technology (hardware or software) to Huawei, the mobile network base station supplier company.

You state this as fact, but it is in fact your opinion.

Your personal politics notwithstanding, they're way off-topic, Huawei is most certainly a China-centered company and that has very real implications. China, while being a huge manufacturing player, is not a neutral entity.

And again, the issue isn't just their phones and it isn't just Huawei- it's Chinese IP theft and the monitization of that theft that is at issue and what is being targeted, on top of the very real espionage concerns.

It's also very telling that you'd be willing to give the Chinese State full control of not just your personal technology but also the backbone that all of your personal communications must use, for any reason. And yes, this is what you're advocating for here.

Alphabet Inc’s Google has suspended business with Huawei that requires the transfer of hardware, software and technical services

It's not just Android License.

Chipmakers including Intel Corp, Qualcomm Inc, Xilinx Inc and Broadcom Inc have told their employees they will not supply critical software and components to Huawei until further notice ...

This is specifically about network infrastructure, but the world is a connected place, it'll have an impact on HuaWei's phone business as well even though that isn't the target.

I don't know why you think this is only about pulling Android License.

This is bullshit. The US is forcing Huawei completely from making mobile phones this way. Unless they make their own OS. Now this affects not just the US, Huawei and China, but the whole fucking world. Huawei has phones better than Samsung and Apple. And FYI, I have yet to see proof that the Chinese government is spying on us through Huawei phones. However, there is plenty of proof that NSA is spying through Apple at the very least.
We'll see what EU has something about this, it might just be able to make Google give back the license to make Android phones again.
There ya go:

Who is beian.gov.cn ? Looks to me that this screenshot is showing this phone connecting to that Chinese government website while on a private LAN, e.g. Wi-Fi, hence the private 19.168.x.x ip address.

You may wonder how they got this info. Check this next video for the methodology.

For what reason is it necessary for a new out of box phone with no additional software downloaded to be constantly sending encrypted traffic to Chinese government servers?
If it were only connecting to Huawei servers, that would could be explained away as advertisement tracking, software updates, you name it. All the criticism would be complete hearsay if that were the case as every phone is constantly connecting to their manufacturer's servers and the servers for the App publishers. But that IS NOT the only thing happening here.

Since Huawei won't be transparent about what information is being sent to Chinese Government servers and has consistently had issues with stealing intellectual properties. I support the US government getting involved.

Honestly, I do believe what is really going on is actually something intended for the Chinese market and the mass surveillance state they have there, and thus that the issue is on all Huawei phones in any market is just them cutting corners to save money and trimming it out. It could also be some Chinese government compliance issue, and they simply won't make a spyware free version to prevent their own people from getting ahold of this spyware free android image even though I know the Chinese people VPN outside their great firewall constantly and likely do stuff like this anyways. I can't foresee all of this to be economically feasible for them to setup a worldwide surveillance network, when the Chinese government can barely keep its own 1 billion citizens locked behind their "Great Firewall".

But I digress. This dispute between the US Government and Huawei is now a decade old under two completely different administrations. There's obviously more to this than just the possible spying such as the constant IP theft as mentioned previously.

However, they haven't done anything about this in over a decade since the US government deemed them a threat. And so far, only Huawei and ZTE are the only Chinese companies that have come under such tense US scrutiny. This is why there just might be something to all this.

I suspect Huawei is about to become much more transparent about this issue very quickly.
