I believe for me it’s time to move on ... thanks for the years of joined crunching and competition as [H]. It was a pleasure and we did some impact.

The changes in recent communication methods made me disconnected; not much to blame towards the team and primary driven by my stubborn brain not willing to adopt to Discord. My choice. I also didn’t appreciated the way the transition was executed. But fine, majority team members decision. On the other side we also see very few interaction from team members here in the forum; which still is our official home; at least I thought so.

The main reason for me is the way we try to influence the outcomes in the recent months. Increasingly visible in last year’s FB and now in the Pent. We are not working as [H] team anymore. Looks more like as a group of “mercenaries”. Might sounds harsh, but lack of better wording. And as a result gave up a great opportunity to gain spot #3 in the biggest BOINC event. And not even for the price to get the supported team to that spot. Wasted opportunity for [H]. I’m fine helping another team when our position is secured or would have no chance at all. [H]ell, we had #3 and gave it up for what ? Priority should be the own team. If it’s still a team.

I’m not sure what I will do with my accounts, I will continue crunching as lonely wolf or rōnin for a while on non-math projects, move partially back to F@H and might rejoin other team in the future. Or even keep them on [H].

I remain mainly interested in the science, But I stay away from challenges which are now more a political, and not recreational/sportive, event.

Wish you all the best and success in which ever direction this team will move. Some of our WU with quorum 2 might meet.

We would have never had a chance at 3rd place had we not got help. Period. Common courtesy to help friends who help you.

I agree with your former point but not the latter. Providing help doesn't really resonate unless you're sacrificing something in doing so.

Apologies if any of my actions have led to your decision.

You'll be sorely missed CV.

Some would disagree with you... Perhaps if someone had numbers to support the claim as things went down throughout the event, it would make the claim stick. There were PM's bouncing around that reflected that. However, I won't call those people out as it isn't constructive. I like the inter team ties. I agree with CV that the team should come first. I disagree that we owed anything for Einstein. I will publicly say that until it was brought up in Discord that we had zero return on ANY of our efforts to support other teams in ANY events. It was perfectly timed which tells me someone brought it up. Yes TAAT sacrificed a great deal on that move. I personally feel that had we been a unified team from the get go, we wouldn't have needed to score that high in Einstein to be in the same spot or to have a good chance at third place. I keep hearing one or two people claim that was the deciding factor in our success. It may have guaranteed a medal in an event but who knows where we would have been had we had all of H resources supporting H. People may not like me bringing up the Devil's advocate side but that was resonating from several through the event. And due to these cheap "tactics" we have lost a few very strong team members.

Will miss you buddy. You have contributed very much to the [H] DC.

I thought the competition is fun and to keep BOINC interest alive and well within this team (...and stressful to some). I can't imagine crunching all year long without competition as this may be boring for some. As with any competition, unfortunately there are always people/teams wanting to be better than others. That's the fact of competition whether we like it or not unless the rules are layout and enforced on what can and cannot be done. Having said that I'll still mostly crunch for [H] most of the time, helping science in general, hitting personal goals, and continue to participate in competition as I see fit.

Sorry to hear you are not happy with the current state of [H].

Good luck with your future endeavors.

I hope you will show the [H] banner on F@H at some point in the future.

I agree on both counts. It was pretty frustrating, even with me putting up boring numbers, to see us basically waste points. We put points into a team that didn't even get a medal. So our goal failed and we lost members in the process, so we got a medal, great? Seems worth it? Not really.

It's somewhat discouraging to run across this thread, since the BOINC Pentathlon 2019 was the first time I ever team-switched, temporarily leaving TeAm Anandtech for [H] on Einstein. I've always been hesitant about switching, because I have a difficult enough time keeping track of my own contributions, much less that of our charitable contributors. But I thought that properly done, a bit of switching around seemed like it could be fun and add some camaraderie to the "smaller" teams (well, [H] isn't exactly small) against behemoth teams like Gridcoin, etc. But as evidenced by this thread, it's important to have everyone on board, and even then not everyone may agree! If the new mode of communication is not acceptable or usable by all members, that's a potential huge problem (I am a noob when it comes to Discord as well, and really don't use it). And finally, how to ensure an outcome that is perceived as fair by everyone? There aren't any referees in this game. Done improperly, team-switching might generate more ill-will than fellowship, which is certainly not the outcome I had in mind when agreeing to the switching scheme.

Anyway, hope it's okay for me to add my two cents as an outsider, and thank you all for kicking our butts up and down the block in Formula Boinc and elsewhere, it simply inspires me to do better next time...

Always welcoming of any cents you want to share :)

Friends, I have so very thoroughly enjoyed the last 12-18 months of camaraderie with [H]! I am deeply saddened to hear of any (ahem) discord ( :D ) within any team. We at TAAT appreciate you guys very much, and now consider you our sis......errr, our brother team!

Hey by all means take a break if anyone needs one. Visit around. Make some new friends. Beat down some League 3 FB teams all by yourself if you like! :D Be that crazy uncle that traveled to (insert whatever remote small country is on the opposite side of the world from you here) and stayed for 2 years.

I hope you find your way back to your family some day though. And if that 'family' turns out to be another team, well, at least stop in and say hello on occasion. :)

fastgeek I am sorry to say this, but I have not seen too much crying and whining lately on other forums about [H] hiring 'that company' to run for them. You been slacking ole man? ;) :p

EDIT: There is a FB Sprint being announced this Wednesday, y'all! I'm not sure my budget can handle 5 more days of running an electric clothes dryer inside the house 24/7....but I'll give it a try anyways. :) Can't wait to see what the Ryzen 3000 series bring to the table later this year!

While I am under the influence of....uhm...all natural muscle relaxer made from potatoes....atp1916, brother, I don't know all the details, maybe 10% of the details, but friend, please don't give up on DC. Assholes are everywhere, and although I think that is only a tiny percentage of your withdrawing from BOINC, I truly believe that one day, soon-ish, our contributions to the advancement of many scientific fields of study will really make a difference. Please continue to support BOINC/F@H at your leisure/convenience. Regardless of Team affiliation, DAYUM you got some output bro! :) :) :)

10esseeTony Yeah, a little bit. Things are busy as hell at work and, honestly, doing this kind of stuff was getting too distracting. Plus I get paranoid from time to time, so go dark now and then. I was tempted to try and piss some people off for the recent Prime Grid event; but truthfully I really don't care about Primes, my systems were in disarray and so on. Would've been nice though... the TDP a couple years back is when people really sat up and took note for the first time. (That I know of at least)

And atp1916 is definitely my GPU counterpart to being a CPU whore. Makes me sad he's calling it quits. People are assholes. I remember when some people were calling me "WTFGeek" during either a TDP or some other PG event. Some meant it as a compliment; but others were trying to be jerks. The latter were just jealous little bitches. Fuck 'em. But he needs to do what's right for him. At the end of the day, that's what matters.

Update: I got some clarity on the team dynamics in place and an overview of recent decisions and remarks by a number of members. And I’m [h]appy to see the topics mentioned in my opening are worked on. Specially the increased communication in the forum. Therefore, and if you don’t mind, I would like to stay [H].

I'll allow it.

CV, understand and share some of your concerns, its partly why I mainly lurk in the background now just churning out science for the team. That and having been caught in all the drama when bigadv ended.

I came back to just make sure you stayed [H]ard!

Wait, that just doesn't sound right... :) Seriously, though - as someone who blissfully missed all the recent drama, I'm glad you're not leaving just as I'm getting back in the swing of things!
