I bought this on Presidents Day when it was on sale for $199. Good TV so far. Replaced my 42inch I had been using for a good 10 years. The backlight started flickering on the old TV.

Out of the box there was some loss of signal off and on for a second at a time. I thought my unit was defective, but turned out I needed a 4k60 capable HDMI cable. Once I picked one of those up on Amazon, the signal issue was resolved. TV took a big update on boot up, and its been smooth since. I use it on gaming mode pretty much all the time. No input lag that I notice, but I also dont game as much as I used to. 4k60 all day long in windows with no issue. Text is really sharp.

Only complaint is maybe viewing angle. The old 42inch Toshiba 42LX177 it replaced had better viewing angles, but I look at it straight on so its not a big deal. Watching TV at night from the bed is also straight on so no worries. Not sure I would use it for a front room TV, but bedroom and PC monitor it works great.

Wifi in some reviews says it can crap out. I havent experienced any problems yet and was a little surprised by the speedtest to fast.com from the firefox browser app. (Being served from a 500/13 connection off an Asus AC3200 connected to 5Ghz band).

Amazon via Best Buy. WTF

So it's under $200, it's a brand I've heard of (although Toshiba hasn't made TVs in years so it's likely a hisense or worse panel) and it has a Fire TV built in. If it doesn't have terrible lag and does 4:4:4 this might be my new PC gaming monitor.

Reviews are "meh" but it does do 4:4:4 and lag is ok as long as you use the right input mode.

I have Amazon GC to burn, so this might work. I keep looking at real 43" 4K monitors but even the cheapest refurb Acer is over $300 even on a good day. Closer to $500 most others.
 
Well, that was a shortlived good review. This TV is a POS when you hit 80 degrees outside. This week TV starts making crackling noises on the sound, screen will just turn off, or start to display green horizontal lines. Only difference is our summer looks to have started early and the temps are up before we had a chance to get the ACs in the windows. It sits on a desk in a room that's probably 15x30ft so it's not in an enclosure or being suffocated. I have a fan on me and its hitting the TV. It gets a few hours a day work. Disappointed and will be calling Toshiba. Too bad I tossed the box about a week ago. :/ pulling the power will sometimes bring it back on. Can't wait until that trick doesnt work and it's completely dead. Last TV was $1600 new. Knew I should have just saved it and bought a better quality unit.

Sorry man, but thanks for the feedback. I too am very leery of cheap TV's that seem "too good to be true" IRL.
Still, it's in warranty, so I would make them do a replacement if yours is dead/dying already.
 
Now that the weather is back down in the 60's, I haven't had a problem since. But for the two days it was hot, it would do all that wonky shit. I believe whatever is in the TV for the Processor may just be overheating. Its definitely not the fastest android experience when installing apps. Im sure I can find a CPUZ like app and find out what its using. I may just do that and see if I can find the SoC on the PCB and maybe implement my own cooling solution. I have a few small heatsinks laying around and could use the USB for fan power. If I botch it, I'll just wait to buy a better model. Being that it works fine currently, Im 99% certain the problem is heat related. When its not overheating, it is an enjoyable experience.

Grabbed a couple of 120MM fans laying around. Grabbed the dremel and eyeballed it. Aesthetics I could give a shit about as the back is against the wall. I may grab a couple non LED fans if the one bugs me. Or maybe grab two for a Phillips like ambient light. Haha. One on the power board and one on the inputs board. Both boards were hot to the touch once up and running (taking caution of course where I'm touching). Power board more than the other. Input board has a shield over it, could not pry it off. Didnt want to risk that it was soldered on. Figure the fan should suffice. Grabbed a 12v AC adapter laying around, works fine for power. We'll see what happens when he heat rises again. Still in the 60's in the northwest for now.

TV is under $200. People have reported their onsite repair needing multiple trips to resolve problems, or not resolving the problem. Only happens when its hot, TV works fine currently. I tossed the box before I found problem out. otherwise I would have looked at returning it.

We'll see if the mods work. Im sure 100% it was heat. Only question is now are the two 120mm's enough. Im betting they are. If not, I'll wait till I have the funds to buy a better replacement. If the TV was anything more expensive, I would have gone the warranty route.
