Like others said, 10TB is dead. Showing $234 for me.

The 16TB still shows $169.99... put my order in. Not overly optimistic it'll ship, but that's a crazy price if it does.

Saw the same. I couldn't even match buying 2x8TB internal Red's on newegg at that price.

Yeah, we'll see if they ship. At least they have a date for the 10tb's. The nice thing about the duo's is they're hotswap and have actual reds and not white labels.

I was reading a review for the WD 16Tb and the reviewer stated, "A very important fact that was not in the WD literature is that there is a hardware encryption that prevents the drive from being read in any other enclosure. In my case the WD Duo enclosure went bad and while the drives were ok I had no way to read them. WD does not sell replacement enclosures." I have the drive in the cart but after reading the review I am not so sure now.

I saw that. That one review was being discussed a lot on SD. I wonder if there is a workaround, particularly if you pull the drives and just install them in a pc.

I have two of the old style duo's and the drives are sitting in my Plex box currently, they're just normal reds when you pop them out. I believe the hardware encryption only comes into play if you use the drives in the enclosure and the enclosure dies.

thats crazy about the encryption... even if they sold enclosures, it would not work cause its hardware based right?

Right, the encryption key is embedded in the enclosure controller. So changing controllers effectively instantly destroys all of your data (it's still there, you just can't get to it). Thus far I haven't seen anyway to extract the key and save it to a new enclosure.

Well now I feel silly for ordering a single drive 8TB WD MyBook a month ago for $126. Ordering a 16TB Dual drive model for my XigmaNAS upgrade.

The 4TB is a really nice deal if you're just looking for something on-the-go. It powers via USB and is much much smaller.

I simply keep buying MyPassports and stacking them... then use a hub when USB ports become a premium. A poor man's NAS.

Edit: The 4TB MyPassport deal is dead now. Kudos to anyone who got one at $55 (I got in on one when it was OOS), it's a smoking deal.

These are obviously pricing errors. Does Amazon usually honor them or do they cancel the orders?

Last time Amazon had a pricing error on the 2080, they cancelled my order but gave a $20 gift card . For a lower priced item, they usually just cancel--would guess that on $80 they wont give compensation. I'm hoping for a $10 on the 16TB I purchased. Of course, if it ships I will be even happier.

I don't think these are pricing errors. Seems more like a clearance of stock. They probably didn't intend to fulfill orders after they went OOS, but that was corrected fairly quickly. I've never ordered something OOS with them before, so if they decide to cancel, so be it. I did get an order confirmation. Won't consider it a win until I see the shipping confirmation though.

I agree. It was worth the attempt, and if they cancel it there's nothing to get mad about.

Damn, I would have been all over that 16 TB dual drive. :( Sounds like all of these were dead before I even woke up today though, lol.

I would probably have tried the 16GB model (which was still enabled but out of stock when I first saw this) however I picked up the 8TB last week for $129+tax.

Yea I'd imagine the 10 was supposed to be 179 and they made a typeo.

Im honestly surprised my order of 2x 16TB Duo's is still sitting saying it will be fulfilled .... Be nice if it is, I need some cheap 8TB Reds....

Yup, I ordered mine this morning. Just going to have to wait and see when we shuck them lol

Holy crap, there is a name I haven't seen in forever! Hope life has been treating you well.

I'd be careful about stacking drives horizontally if they're all being used regularly as the heat from the bottom drive propegates up and can end up roasting other drives. If you take the entire stack and turn it 90 degrees so each drive is on its side you'll be okay as each drive's heat will go straight up although there still will be some residual heat which will make the entire 'nas' of drives hot without a fan of some sort.

I found this out back in the day killing some 80gb and 120gb ide externals when they came out--stacked them and then started hammering them with data and the one at the top was hot enough to fry an egg. And then the errors started...

Luckily the drives still checked out after they cooled down and I just realized I still have them somewhere...

And the same to you, long time no see, stop by the channel some day my man. Did you get in on the deal?

I did not sadly. I am on Pacific Standard Time now so I missed out. Crazy thing is I am up at 430am every morning but Friday we slept in since it was a busy week. Figures the one day lol.

I really wanted to snag at least an 8-10TB, but would have settled for a pair of the 4TB models if that was still open. Hope yours ships. You will have to PM me the IRC info, been forever since I've been in and had it bookmarked in the past before doing a clean OS install.

Yay for insomnia, I just happened to be awake despite being on the west coast. I ordered one of the 10tb. Who knows if they will ship, but here's hoping.

Did anyone get shipping confirmation on the 16TB duo unit? I ordered one but they put it on back-order, guess I was a little too slow...

Mine is still back-ordered. But 48 it's hours later, and they still haven't cancelled it.... So it's looking a little better that I'll actually get something.

Eh. The last time I ordered an obvious pricing error (video lights for less than 1/4 of usual price) they let the order sit in limbo for a few months before sending me an email asking to confirm I still wanted it. A few more months after confirming that I wanted it they eventually sent me an email stating they couldn't get the product and were cancelling my order.

I still bit on the 16tb duo - they won't charge my card unless they ship, so no real risk.

Yeah mine hasn't been canceled either....

Hopefully, they make good on it... A few months is unacceptable!
