Launch date is May 14. I like OP, but the phone prices have risen pretty steeply over the past few years. Still, I'm very interested in the 7 Pro. It or the 4XL will be my next phone.

I'd switch to them, if they made a slightly smaller device. I'm sick of huge devices, got rid of my S9+, got rid of my Note9, got rid of my iPhone 7 Plus, and I'm loving the XS / S10 duo I have now. Make an S10 sized device, and I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Still happy with the 5T but their costs have hit a max point I don't want to cross so sadly I will be looking at other midrange devices. I wish OP would make a true mid ranger. 1080P OLED, Decent camera, SD 6XX, 6GB ram and 128GB storage for 300-400$ sign me up!

The video has some errors in transcribing Max J's Twitter
  • both phones have an option for 256 GB storage not 265 GB
  • One Plus 7 Pro has a 8 MP telephoto sensor f/2.4 not f/2.2
  • One Plus 7 Pro has a 16 MP wide angle sensor f/2.2 not f/2.4

I'd rather like them to make Huawei P30 competitor. In other words top specs at least chipset wise but more compact form factor. I find my P30 to be the absolutely maximum size (and weight) that is still somewhat usable with one hand. It's a bit too tall though mostly thanks to small bottom bezel (bottom nav bar should be a bit higher).

TMobile announced the 7 Pro as a TMobile exclusive and you can play with it in select locations (NYC for now).

Meanwhile, the announced specs includes a 48MP Sony main camera sensor with a 16MP wide angle and 8MP telephoto, a 90Hz display, and a 4000mAh battery. (I guess the rumored specs are of the regular model instead of the Pro.)

If the camera is even close to the Huawei P30 Pro, damn...

Disappointed. The phone is significantly more thick with a big price hike. Would probably get the newly announced Pixel instead of this.

I got a cheap case from Amazon for $7 bux. Just wanted something in case I bit the bullet on a 7 Pro. The case is about as thick as my Pixel 3XL case and just a bit longer. The 7 Pro or Pixel 4XL will be my next phone.

The OnePlus we loved for their 'flagship phone without flagship prices' premise is gone. $669+ is essentially flagship prices now. After seeing the Pixel 3a at $399/$479, this phone doesn't seem as appealing anymore. The only thing I like about it is the 90Hz OLED display and that's it.

$699 for the 8GB/256GB 7 Pro is still a lot less expensive than the $999 I paid for my 4GB/128GB Pixel 3XL.

Significantly more thick than what? We have no idea what you are comparing it to.

They also have trade ins. I have a OP5, that will knock off some change for the 7Pro. Cant wait to get one.....

OP7 Pro is 8.8mm.
Again the same question, we know that the OP7 Pro is 8.8 mm thick but what phone are you comparing it to? :)

If you had its predecessor, the OnePlus 6T in mind, that phone is 8.2 mm thick which is virtually identical in thickness.

Might be be a wake up call to OnePlus if the combined sales of the Pixel 3a with its camera and specs starting at $399, and the Pixel 3a XL with its camera and specs starting at $479, outsells their no longer moderately priced phones.

Tempted to get this and hand my 2 XL down to my son who needs to replace his old S7 with a half-wore out (literally around 60% capacity) battery. Camera performance and aesthetics are about the last things I care about on a phone, but this thing looks like it may be too big for my preference too. I definitely don't want anything bigger than my 2 XL, as it's pretty awkward to use with one hand already.

If the 7 (non-pro) was smaller, I'd consider asking my coworker to have one shipped from India for me. $469 for what is essentially a 7 Pro without the popup camera is pretty damn good. I have to assume T-Mobile wanted to keep the Non-Pro out of the US, as not to cannibalize sales.

These phones are getting too large, even the non-pro I'd rule out on the size alone. Samsung Galaxy 10e is looking more and more interesting at its very compact size 142.2 x 69.9 x 7.9 mm for me (next Black Friday deal when price has dropped in half).

Although OnePlus typically holds its value well compared to other Android phones, mostly because OnePlus phones are priced low to begin with instead of the usual Android price drop or 50% off deals after a month of release (especially true for LG phones), would you predict that this phone starting at $669 be $599 in a month?

(I'm tempted to get the 12GB RAM version at $749 if there is a deal on it. Goodbye lightning cables...)

Depends on if it's through T-Mobile or not. If you have a trade in that they're boosting the value of, do it now. You can get 5 or 10% off their website as a student discount now. They'll also have some decent sales in the next few weeks.

Agreed.

I bought the original OnePlus One, at launch, when it was $299, it was a great phone at an amazing price. Then little by little price kept creeping up, now it's $700 LOL fuck that. Just a few years ago, flagship iPhone's and Galaxy Note's were $649. A frigging OPO is $700 LOL, not a chance.

Thank God Google released the Pixel 3a for $399.

So now we need the next OnePlus like company selling "flagship killer" phones at truly affordable price to arrive on the scene and take out OPO.

Examined and played around with one of the OP7 Pros last night and for what it's worth these are my personal findings....

The phone's large display coupled with a large screen-to-body ratio along with no notch, no cut-out, and no punch holes really impressed me, the result of not have a selfie camera in view. Notches bother me and I don't like them at all.

Took a close look at the popup camera's exit port with the camera retracted, saw no gaps that would permit dust, lint, or other debris to gain entrance. Whether or not this would happen with the popup camera being used and whether or not the popup camera will become a mechanical liability over time has yet to be determined. I haven't taken a selfie in years, and have no intention of doing so in the future, that for me makes moot the issue.

Why OnePlus went with installing a curved screen on this phone instead of staying away from one, is beyond me. There is no way to avoid light reflections and glare especially along the sides of the display no matter where you view the phone, and if you are near any overhead lighting the display glare is more than you would be seeing if it were a flat screen.

I viewed text in documents and on web pages. I did so in 60 fps and in 90 fps refresh rates while scrolling rapidly and scrolling slowly. I saw no distinguishable improvement in clarity or reduction in the slight blur that one would expect to see when scrolling text. The phone is fast and snappy, no question about that, and I would expect that of a flagship running SD 855.

Couldn't assess the speaker quality, I was in one of T-Mobile's signature stores and they had music pumped up at high volume.

Update June 4, 2019
During the past week I had two more hands on with the phone, this time it was in a local T-Mobile store that had no distracting music or ambient noise. I listened to a YouTube symphonic work that has a diverse range of instrumental solos, and orchestral sound. The speakers sounded very good and exceeded my expectations. The mid range treble was impressively clear, with no distortion at high volume. Lower range bass was not anything impressive but nevertheless it was acceptable. What was important is that the overall sound was very nice. Reminded me of the sound quality of the S10.

Each time I visited the store to play with the phone I went with the hope that I would not be affected by the curved screen because I wanted this phone for many reasons. It has no notch or hole punch, has nice sounding dual speakers, SD 855 processor, a QHD+ OLED display, a near Android skin, and T-Mobile VoLTE. Unfortunately no matter how I held the phone or what the ambient lighting was, in addition to unwanted reflections there was a distracting glare running down the sides of the screen. If it were not for the curved screen's glare and reflections I would have purchased it.

Huge fan of what OnePlus has done.
Was on an S4 back in the day before moving to a 3T and now a 6T.
The move from 3T was fast, I usually keep my phones for 3 years minimum, but 6T was a serious step up all around.

A motorized selfie camera to avoid the notch? I'm not against the notch, but motorized parts at this scale is a big no-no for me unless it comes with a lifetime warranty or manual control.
It may work great, but I don't have that kind of faith in the technology to last as long as I'd want to keep the phone.

All the other specs aren't that much far off from the 6T in terms of baked in technology, so unless you NEED a particular feature on a 7, a 6T may be a better choice!

Still no 802.11ax though...but at least it supports USB 3.1 unlike the 6T.

And don't forget all the chuckles to be had at their 'Warp Charge' moniker for fast charging. :)

I got my notice from OP that said it's available for purchase, but I'm going to pass.

While it looks nice still not top tier camera and early reviews are that the 90hz chews through the battery.

Maybe pick one up used in a few months as I stopped buying new phones from OnePlus back after T cycles began and killed resale values.

They went one step further in markets outside the US as the regular OnePlus 7 is priced lower than the 6T.

OnePlus warranty is not like Google or Apple so I don't see a benefit from that perspective of new vs used.

I think I'm on the Z bandwagon now that smartphones are fast enough that I don't need to continually buy a new phone to remain satisfied.

Google was so close to have my ideal perfect phone in the 3a xl. Just add wireless charging and I am sold. OP is now off my radar as new phones due to high costs. Still great phones and software, used market is where I would look if I wanted a OP now on swappa

The same DXO Mark that had a partnership with OnePlus on the OnePlus 5?

I am just going by what reviewers are reporting that were provided with the OP7+ early and have used it for a few weeks.

MKBHD, Mr. Mobile and The Verge to name a few. The common theme is the camera is good enough just not great. If the camera is not high on your list I'm sure you will love the phone as the sum of everything looks to be a very good phone overall.

I hope that OnePlus figures out the camera/software/processing as it has been their Achilles Heel since the OnePlus One and could make the other OEM'S rethink their pricing if it does well.

Great phones with good cameras are OK when they are not trying to compete with the Flagship phones. The OP7+ is in the premium category so the camera should be as well.

DxO isn't the end all be all. From the reviews, it still doesn't beat out the Pixel 3, S10 or P30. I'm sure that if you put Gcam on it, it would win out though.

Just to preface no I’m not shilling for OnePlus, this will be my first time using any Android brand outside of LG, HTC, and Samsung. Also I’ve been an iPhone user for going on three years now, last Android phone I used was the HTC 10. After much deliberation I’m making the leap back to give this phone a whirl.

For those complaining about the price put this into perspective: the S10 with just 8GB of RAM and half the storage (granted it has expandable storage), a smaller screen size, and a marginally better camera costs $220 more, and a baseline iPhone XS Max with just 64GB of storage and 4GB of RAM and again a marginally better camera is $1099.

Those two phones are selling, so obviously there’s a market there. I’m jumping the Apple ship from an iPhone X to the OnePlus 7 Pro. While yes, the Pixel 3A XL is nice, a lot of the reviews I’ve read thus far bash the performance of the stronger Pixel 3 after long term usage. I can only wonder what that means for the 3A. While the regular P3 might have the best camera in the world, and guaranteed updates it makes me wonder why they couldn’t have given it at least 6GB of RAM at that price point.

That and you can’t reasonably expect a 6.6” 90hz 1440 AMOLED screen with no botch and a 93% Screen to Body ratio phone with the latest SoC, UFS 3.0 and up to 12 GB of RAM be below the $669 starting point for these kinds of specs. Yes, that was standard pricing for a flagship 2+ years ago, but now the standard pricing for flagships seem to have hiked above $900. For people who pay monthly for their phones this is a steal compared to the S10.

As for camera quality it’s pretty much shown that a software tweak is all it’d take to put it up there with the best in the business when it comes to smartphone cameras.

While I’m a little concerned about the size as I’ve gotten so used to the iPhone X form factor, I’m sure after a little usage I’ll have no issues. God I sound like a freaking shill, I promise I’m not, just someone looking forward to getting back on the Android platform with what seems to be a great phone with a what seems to be a too good to be true price point.

The issue with comparing pricing on the Samsung, is that they're discounted like CRAZY a month after they go on sale. No, they're not down to $700, but you can easily get an S10 for $800. Costco is having a sale next week that puts them at $800, and you get $750 off if you trade in a device and switch carriers.

Just saying, the cost factor against other androids isn't as cut & dry as you think.

The 7 looks like a great phone. But their whole thing was LOW PRICED flagship killers. People are going to bitch and moan when they break from that mold.
