Foreign Tech: National Emergency, says White House

Believe me folks, this will be the biggliest and maybe bestest national emergency ever.

I miss real national emergencies.

I guess the NSA is getting jealous they arent the only snoopers in town!

China is not Soviet Union 2.0.
We been eroding our power tremendously by so many rash harsh reactions to so many countries (for at least 3 decades, surely 2). Its like Oprah by now... And you get a sanction, and you get a sanction, and you get a ban!... And we screw with your banks!!
Its not going to work anymore... Or at least it will work less and less as meaningful players will surely realize 'they can't win' in dealing with USA so might as well be in for a pound so to speak... And ignore US altogether and more on. Russia is doing it.. along others they are basically reshaping high finances out of the dollar... Goes slowly, but surely. .. drip drip.

China is Soviet Union 2.0. We will have our armies staring down each other at some point. Empowering them with our technology and building their industry while killing ours, is just moving up that date.

We were on a path to making the Soviet Union, China 0.0. There were commercial efforts to support exploiting the captive workforce and near zero pollution controls in the S.U. This would have kept the S.U. alive along with the cold war. Reagan killed it. Then attention by corporate powers switched to Mexico and then China. After the Tienamen Square fiasco, eyes were set back on Mexico, and then to China again.

Corporate powers, a bad term really, have a hard on to screw over the US worker. They make too much money and have too much job security and that makes them uppity.

What "so many countries"?
I don't get what you are talking about. You act like we do these things without our friends, We don't. Our friends are right there with us all the time. The news likes to ignore that, make people think it's all just us pissing in other people's Corn Flakes, but it's not.

The problem is when you're pissing in your friend's cornflakes too... That erodes the relationship and makes them look for other friends.

EU countries have all rebuffed the US' claims and threats against installing Huawei's 5G, and China says the US' stance on China's 5G will only hurt the US in the long term..

The US wants to give itself the 5G market so that it can profit from it and also so that it can do all the espionage things the US claims China will do with it. But, I don't see the US as holding any cards in the matter - China is too far ahead and the EU hasn't found evidence for the threats the US claims exist from China. instead, EU countries are increasingly fed up with US sanctions bullying and are strongly rejecting US pressure on many fronts: 5G, the Iran nuclear deal, and Nord Stream 2.

Normalizing relations with a bunch of human-rights-abusing, totalitarian communists in pursuit of cheap crap to fill our stores is a tremendous shame on all Western nations. Nixon should have kept his ugly mug out of China.

OH, and by the way, I think that's the entire point.
So Europe is banning Hauewei equipment? I haven't read that. That said, of all the many fucked up things Trump does, this one bugs me the least. My last company used them for SMS or MMS (as I recall it was a free server), but we replaced it with an Airwide system a few years later. I never felt comfortable with a Chinese owned company providing equipment, though it had no affect on me, since I never used MMS and these days my MMS (and SMS) is mostly done over data. Only exceptions are if the other phone isn't an iPhone.

So if we can't discuss politics on this forum why are we posting political news?
Discussing politics and political preferences/beliefs is different from discussing a story which involves politics. it's a slippery slope, the faint-hearted need not apply. ;)

It is interesting that Huawei reportedly has been planning for this for many years and has many backup chip designs they can use to plug the holes. I have to say if they pull this off I will be quite impressed.

Don't count the rest of the world to join us on this. It is in their interest to see China prevail. It doesn't take a genius to see that any country can be the next target (we have trade deficit with pretty much everyone, and Trump's other tariffs dont help).

But hey, don't take my word for it, read the news.

Maj Gen Chris Ghika, the deputy commander of Operation Inherent Resolve, the US-led coalition fighting Islamic State in Syria and Iraq ..................

A coalition, and the deputy commander is a British General, you know, our friends. I was in Iraq with Brits, Aussies, Russians, Ukrainians, El Salvadorans, South Koreans, Ethiopians guarded our base walls and mess hall. The same shit was true in Afghanistan, and the Horn of Africa, and pretty much anywhere else we go. I've been with Ghurkas and those little dudes are scary serious, I'd say on par with the El Salvadorans.

So while you throwing down the link card, show me yours where the US has gone into a military conflict alone without allies since the Vietnam War?

I think Granada and the capture of Bin Laden are all that come to mind. But let's see what you come up with.

Try reading what I said. I said "The news likes to ignore that, make people think ......" In other words, we aren't pissing in our friend's cornflakes and we are not pissing off our friends. The media just enjoys trying to make it look that way, trying to convince all us good little citizens that the current administration is fucking up. This topic and article is about China .... China is not a friend or an Ally. China is the competition and China has been pushing it on the international scene not just with the US.

https://www.wsj.com/articles/china-...ritorial-waters-without-permission-1536242094

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/05/20/world/asia/china-taiwan-island-south-sea.html

Better yet, just watch this video and see what's going on and why.

In simple terms, China is trying to build the legal pretext to take what they want from others who are too small to fight them, while building up military strength and capability in order to fend off any other countries who might, due to treaty, might try to force them to back off.

One thing is definite, someone is getting their Corn Flakes pissed in.

I'm just not sure if you have the pissers and the pissees correctly identified.

EU countries have all rebuffed the US' claims and threats against installing Huawei's 5G............

Not all, and not forever.

https://www.theguardian.com/technol...ei-from-supplying-core-parts-of-uk-5g-network
https://www.scmp.com/tech/gear/arti...up-strip-huawei-core-networks-limit-5g-access

England has followed, and other nations may not be so fast to ban HuaWei outright, but read this and think longer term, how long will these EU Telecoms continue to buy from HuaWei when HueWai is no longer compatible with the rest of the market?

Huawei would be the largest business ever subjected to the controls, a law enforcement measure that requires it to obtain US government approval on purchases of American technology, said Kevin Wolf, who had been the assistant secretary of commerce for export administration in the Obama administration.

https://www.itv.com/news/2019-05-16/huawei-hit-by-us-export-controls-and-potential-import-ban/
“It’s going to have ripple effects through the entire global telecommunications network because Huawei affiliates all over the planet depend on US content to function and if they can’t get the widget or the part for the software update to keep functioning then those systems go down,” he said.

It's not a one way street. While China will claim that the US needs their products and it will hurt the US long term, the reality is that China needs US products for their products, and blocking sale of US Tech to Chinese companies will leave them a bad position with almost everyone else. The Eu countries don't have to support the US ban, when HuaWei can't use US tech in their products and their products loose comparability, they stop being a good choice for Telecoms everywhere. Oh, the Chinese will cheat like they always do, they'll steal the code, repackage it, sell it in their systems to keep the capabilities, and then the US will begin suing the Telecoms that buy HuaWei to block the use of the infringing tech. Then tech companies won't take the risk of making those investments that are vulnerable. China isn't in the drivers seat, and the US has it's hands on their throat.

Remember those "Five-Eyes" Countries, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand ? Watch them, they''ll all tuck in with the US on this, because they share Intel information with each other. If you choose to think that there isn't a valid Intelligence and Security issue with this story that's on you. But if their is, all of these countries being "in the know" on it should be a good indicator of whether their are solid real threats or if it's only political posturing.

Biggest issue: Huawei can produce the very best product for the job, but it will always be one firmware update away (at most!) from being a literal espionage apparatus for the Chinese State. The same applies to stuff like Kaspersky anti-virus.

On the consumer side, I've been highly impressed with the work Huawei has done. But as with most, given the ethics of The Party, I'm quite hesitent to consider them.

Right you are. And it's important to remember that this doesn't effect HuaWei's cell phone business. This is about network infrastructure products and it's about selling too HuaWei, not buying HuaWei, though their are warnings about that too.
The addition means that U.S. companies cannot sell or transfer technology to Huawei without a license issued by the BIS.
.

Of course I'm sure there were some US Businesses that are going to be pissed off about losing customers.

The UK is in a desperate position and is servile towards the US, being typically the odd-one out that way. And they're not supposed to be a part of the EU anymore, but they keep delaying their exit.

With the way things are going, Huawei is going to have the market. And then, if they maintain course, UK is going to be an island in 5g to go along with its geographical and political disposition.

I think it is fucking stupid. In the end you are not going to achieve the goal of creating a market for US only it will just set back US technology sector. And whomever is left for the new network can ask stupendously high prices for the hardware and in the end the consumer pays for it .

https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/rt-news/

Those 'bias checking' sites like Media Bias / Fact Check, Snopes, and Polygraph are complete propaganda and fake news, themselves, and not actual tools for gauging news sites' trust-worthiness. Using them is asking for a liar's opinion, because those sites all aim to lie and propagandize. And this is demonstrated by MBFC's crazed page for RT. Also, their calling RT right-wing is interesting, considering how much left-wing talent, including left-wing icons, RT boasts.

The Polygraph links the MBFC page cites as examples of RT pushing 'fake news' are blatantly dishonest and fake news, themselves:

https://www.polygraph.info/a/rt-calls-white-helmets-jihadists/29233019.html - The RT reporting makes clear that it refers to the "White Helmets" as jihadists, and cites UK media as reporting them as jihadists. So, the claim that the OPCW got their soil samples from "jihadists" is not deceptive, it's clear in who it's referring to. And "White Helmets" are indeed a propaganda group for jihadists, many of them being jihadists, themselves:

"White Helmets" and Al Queda
Over 100 White Helmet Self-Posted Facebook Images Expose Fake Humanitarian Group as FSA Terrorists Linked with Al-Qaeda
Massive White Helmets Photo Cache
65 'White Helmet' Facebook Profiles Show They Are Pro ISIS, Pro Al-Qaeda
Al Queda leaders praise the "White Helmets" as mujahideen brothers

And the things "WH" do in their propaganda videos are not actual medical procedures.

cardiologist slams "WH" procedures
"WH"handling purported sarin gas victims with bare hands
"WH" performing fake injection on doll or dead baby

And there is so, so, so much more video and photos exposing the "White Helmets" as the terrorist propaganda group they really are. And the "White Helmets"'s propaganda video about the alleged Douma, Syria chemical attack has now been debunked in all ways 3 4 5.

The "White Helmets" aren't even the Syrian Civil Defence, as the Polygraph page calls them - the "White Helmets" merely stole that name from the real Syrian Civil Defence and used it as a cover for their propaganda. That was exposed ages ago. The Syrian Civil Defence has nothing to do with the "White Helmets" and doesn't want them using their name.

So, the Polygraph page claiming to debunk RT's claim that the OPCW got their soil samples from jihadists (the "White Helmets") is debunked. They know exactly why RT is saying what they're saying, but choosing to not acknowledge it and then smear a false "False" label on their article. Polygraph is a deliberate propaganda site that tells you lies to manipulate you into believing propaganda. And they're succeeding.

And other examples cited from Polygraph are equally false, like this so-bad-it-has-to-be-a-joke twisting of RT's sardonic and derisive mocking of state-funded Atlantic Council hack Ben Nimmo's literally falsely accusing multiple people (a Brit, a Finnish, and an Australian) of being Russian trolls based on typos and other language confirmation-bias triggers. All that Polygraph is doing is looking to find something to tag as "False" - and the straws they grasp at and deliberate ignoring of context and meaning they go to to achieve that shows how little they actually have to legitimately attack. The plentiful examples that can be given from propaganda outlets like BBC, NYT, CNN, The Guardian, etc, are more egregious by orders of magnitude.

If a sarcastic comment is False, doesn't that mean that its inverse is true? So, Polygraph are naysaying RT's sarcastic comment to say that it's actually true - that immigrants shouldn't bother making any social media posts unless their English is perfect, otherwise they'll be attacked as 'Kremlin-paid trolls' by US state-sponsored think-tanks.

Look at 161765[/ATTACH]]the "most popular" bar on Polygraph - it's literally all anti-Russia stuff, and they're all bogus and meant to lock the already-suckered down into propaganda. Polygraph, MBFC, and Snopes are bold-faced literal deliberate propaganda dumps. If you don't see that, then you seriously lack judgment and discretion.

RT is one of the best English MSM news sources there is. They're far more objective than pretty much any other, they air their critics, and they cover multiple sides of issues. RT is produced and hosted by award-winning top-level talent from US and UK MSM outlets, who left their former MSM employers and who say they have much more freedom to speak truthfully at RT than they did at BBC, NYT, CNN, NBC, etc. If you don't accept real news and simply dogmatically believe what your preferred propaganda outlets tell you to, well, that's too bad. But, I'm going to continue to post from the most reputable sources available - which means I'll keep posting RT links when they're available.

Because the US is at nearly a 50 year low on unemployment rates.

Feels like I have already played this video game or watched this show, in a few different forms....

Humanity creates sentient beings of some type, to make life easier. Those sentient beings then begin to think outside the way the creators initially had planned. This is ignored while the primary needs are still met. Eventually the sentient life rises up to overthrow the creators. This story never seems to go well for the "creators".
Not that the Chinese are non-human, but the story elements seem to be pretty common and it always goes poorly for the ones who created this situation to begin with.

Cool, it's Monday, a new week. So you asked for a link to investigate my claim, but you didn't ask the guy I was replying too for anything to corroborate his part of the discussion.

So to me, it seemed like you were butting in on our argument asking me for proof without doing the same for the other guy. Remember, he made the initial claim not I. I asked him to substantiate his claim which he didn't do. He made it sound like we were starting shit with a bunch of countries all the time when reality is, we just have a favorite few. And the official view towards them is, they are the ones starting shit, we're just out there with our buddies calling them on it.

So I didn't drag this off the rails, I replied to someone else, you just wandered into it in what I viewed as a challenging manner, unfairly at that.

But if that was not your intention ..... water off a duck's back.

Works fine until HuaWei can't make compatible products without US tech in them. The way the EU likes to sue US companies, I don't see the US doing any different when the EU keeps doing business with HuaWei equipment that has stolen tech in them. Put yourself in some other country's shoes, would you continue to buy HuaWei over their competitors when you know you might get sued for it and not be able to use the gear you bought? Or will you pay a little more and buy elsewhere and just avoid the issue entirely?

Oh, and this is really your source?
https://www.rt.com/about-us/
RT is an autonomous, non-profit organization that is publicly financed from the budget of the Russian Federation.

None of the countries listed are close US allies. If the source of the intelligence is very sensitive then only our closest friends will be shown that information. Those close countries are Canada, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand. So look which way they go. Stop looking at them as puppets, they are US Allies not US puppets. They make their own decisions for themselves but they do make those decisions based on information that is often known only to these five countries. Well, I think Israel shares a lot also, but sometimes they have their own sources.
