Looking to get a 2700 (NON X) ryzen and looking for a motherboard that can clock it to 4-4.1ghz that is sub 200$... what do you all recommend me going with?

Have a look at the gigabyte B450 aourus pro WiFi, I've built a dozen or so systems in that board and it's pretty damn solid. And I'm usually not a fan of gigabyte at all.

does it have the VRM capability to OC a 8c cpu? Didnt look like it did.....

As of time of this writing, there's a Crosshair 7 in the FS/FT forum going for 180 shipped.

Edit, that said, most B450/X470s can go to 4.0-4.1 I think.

Asus ROG Strix X470-f gaming is $186 at walmart.com, looks like a solid mobo, but I have no experience with it.

Not only are Asus usually solid boards, but ROGs are even better. I have a x79 ROG board that was literally a hand me down that was used for testing. This this is rock solid no issues with my ancient 4960x.

I do...it's a great board. I like the bios better than ASRock AM4 boards.

That CH7 for $180 in the forums though is a great deal. Best AM4 board I used. The X470-F Strix was the 2nd best board I've used for AM4.

Same boat as OP, I'd like some recommendations for 2600/2700 mobo's as well.

Never owned and AMD system... it's time to dabble!

Looking to re-purpose my old 4690k + mobo + RAM for HTPC use (tired of fiddling with plex on my ancient HP Prolient, want a dedicated HTPC again), and get the GF on something a bit better at the same time. Lets do it all in one swoop.

More hands on experience with 4+GHz mobo's with onboard wifi for her use would be much appreciated.

I run the CH7 and love it. Recently built a bang for buck system for my Son on the MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon and the feature set and OC potential is phenomenal at $140 or so. Really nice mid range board with some punch.

Below is reddit's B450/X470 VRM Tier list

Get the best X470 board that meets your $$. Should be some nice deals out there with x570 about to launch. Don't waste your time on a B450 at this time unless your looking at <$150.

The Rog strix b450f is listed as a lower end board but it's pretty solid. Just built a new rig this week and got it as a combo from Newegg with a 2600x and 16gb gskill 3200 ram for $330 (like getting upgraded to the 2600x for $50 for free). Haven't had a PC in 18 months and 1st AMD since my dual core opteron that was a phenomenal oc'er back in 06. I know I could've waited for the zen 2 to come out in a couple months but I had the urge to kill some little kids online right now... actually they're kicking my ass but I'm having fun.

I'm running the b350-f version and it's been pretty solid for me over the past year and a half. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

If you are looking to save $ but not compromise on VRM quality etc, you might find some really good deals on the nice X370 boards. (esp since X570 is coming so soon)

X470 itself didn't really update anything, but it was a chance for vendors to rethink some of the poor design decisions on the launch boards. That said, there are some X370 models that are known to be quite good.

I've seen X370 Tachi & Fatality (same thing + 5Gbe) in the low $100s NIB from various places recently.

You may need a bios flash with used or "old new stock" but later ones shipped with 2000 series bios support. If retail (cough microcenter cough), they often have a bios version sticker on the box or on the flash chip itself.

Used you can find under $100, sometimes with the bonus you can ask to get it flashed in advance ;)

I hate when people recomend that you "wait" but in this case I would recomend that you wait for the 570/550 boards to be released. By Thursday / friday next week we should have a really clear idea of the release schedule.
