In News That We've All Been Waiting For - More Star Wars Movies

All the hints are Old Republic era in some shape or form. Whether its pulled from KOTOR RPG's, Old Republic MMORPG, other legends material, or something brand new has yet to be determined.

Darth Revan is all but Canon at this point with his deleted scene cut from the Clone Wars TV show and the inclusion of the planet Malachor V in the Rebels TV show. Darth Treya (KOTOR II) is also nearly canon too since the same voice actress was used for the Sith Holocron in Rebels. I hope their stories are covered in some fashion.

Wow I had no idea they were so close to bringing Revan in before. Thanks for a new hope!

I think Disney is aware that the MCU train is going to end sooner than later. So, it's trying to replace that with Star Wars. Bad move.

Every bubble bursts...every one. It's a matter of when, not if. I do think now that Endgame has come, we'll see the slow decline. You can only dangle a carrot for so long until the person admits defeat.

Wait, fucking Disney has the rights to Avatar now?

I was counting on the new Avatar movies. Alita: Battle Angel was the best movie I've seen in quite a while. In Cameron I trust but at this pace I am going to die of old age before he delivers again

I haven't watched the last two movies but it certainly seems like the latest Avengers is supposed to be the end of the original run even if it is "phase three". It will live on but I think the decline will start now once they start introducing a new cast of less inspired, cut/paste characters. See Dr. Strange vs Iron Man, a literal copy/paste in terms of their origin films and character design and personality.

I think you’ll be shocked, but we are in for 5-10 years of declining MCU sales and quality.

With Disney's latest calendar of movies this train is not ending anytime soon...

It'd be nice if one of those untitled films went along these lines:

Well they didn't fire the broad that ruined it with all the social justice bullshit, soooo I'm going to say Pass.

We'll see. It is unlikely that any MCU movie will ever hit the heights of Endgame again, not unless they stumble on the right combination of cast, writers, directors, and timing again. But that doesn't mean there will be a consistent decline in either sales or quality, not to the level you are implying at least.

Never doubt Disney's ability to ruin franchises.

As long as Marvel Pictures is making a boat-load of money the rest of Disney is going to remain hands-off. If Feige ever leaves that would likely end up being a really bad sign for the MCU.

I think the big problem with the last season of GOT is well two things. One, I think they wrote themselves into a few corners with some of their decisions in earlier seasons (especially with certain characters that were killed or left alive) and even with the long development time this season still feels rushed. A lot of that production time was probably for CG effects and working around the busy schedules of various actors (especially Sophie Turner) so maybe they simply didn't have the time needed to do a couple more drafts of the episodes or get enough reshoots in but either way it feels like they're rushing to the finish line. If 2022 is D&D's trilogy then they have a good amount of time to get things ready. Plus, they might not end up directing so directors can tweak things that don't work or bring in their own writers to make edits to the scripts. I agree with your thoughts on Rian. He had to follow up Abrams set up and Abrams has admitted he never knew the conclusion to anything he set up in TFA which meant Johnson had to figure out where to take that mess of ideas and mysteries and figure out what to do with it while shoe-horning existing characters in. It doesn't excuse how bad TLJ was, but it might mean he'll be able to do something better when given more freedom.

Problem with GoT is they ran out of books. That's why it went down hill

Mhm. D&D are not GRRM. They're not bad writers, but they're writing style is obviously not the same as GRRM and it does radically alter the tone and pacing (and characters, in a lot of cases). I've seen creative teams handle getting beyond the source material and needing to find a way to finish the story done a lot worse than GOT (happens quite often with anime), but I've also seen it done better.

I am a doubter, they have consumed the best comic plot lines already, and modern (Marvel) comics have shown lackluster writing/plot quality. Now that endgame is over the MCU is at its greatest risk of collapse since the late 2000’s.

Modern Marvel is slowly improving, but there are still older stories they can borrow from. The Russo's have even teased Secret Wars being a possibility in the future. With Far From Home setting up a multiverse that opens up a lot of story opportunities. They've got the F4 and X-Men now so that gives them major villains like Dr. Doom, Galactus, Magneto, the Brotherhood, Sinister, Apoc, the Hellfire Club. They're doing an Eternals movie, that opens up a lot of god-level cosmic stuff to work with. As crap as AvX was in comic form, its an idea they could adapt in the MCU (Civil War proved that a bad comic event could be turned into a great movie). Annihilation is something they could adapt for a cosmic storyline. If they can get Sony on board with more Spidy stuff there is a ton of stuff to draw from there. I doubt they'd try to adapt it, but Age of Apocalypse is a thing they could draw from. Ditto for House of M. They could adapt a variation of Johnathan Hickman's 2015 Secret Wars (the one where Doom recreates the universe). They could even draw from bad events like the Clone Saga or Civil War II and rework them to make them a lot better.

which SW movies are coming out in 2022?...the trilogy written by Rian Johnson or the David Benioff/DB Weiss (Game of Thrones guys) one?

Now we know...the next Star Wars film coming in 2022 will be from the showrunners of Game of Thrones and not the new trilogy announced by Lucasfilm that’s being developed by The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson...Disney Chairman and CEO Robert Iger dropped the news Tuesday morning...

All signs point to it being Benioff/Weiss Old Republic trilogy. Rian Johnson is in some seriously hot water after the epic failure that was Last Jedi, which was evidenced by JJ Abrams taking over episode 9 and George Lucas was brought in for consulting. The Neo FemiNazi in charge is also getting flak too, but less so than Johnson.

Hopefully they learn a lesson from the last season of GoT, probably not though.

that's a great setting so things are already looking good...Benioff/Weiss know how to do epic action set-pieces so with a bigger budget they will definitely create some nice eye candy...let's just hope they have gotten better with their writing as the quality of GoT has gone down ever since they passed the books...

Judging by the quality of the GoT writing once they outpaced GRRM's content I would not bank on these films being very good...yikes.

i don't think the writings that bad, i think it's mostly a pacing issue.. trying to fit 2-3 episodes worth of content into an hour long episode is what i think is ruining some of the writing. for example
the white walker battle should of easily been two episodes, episode 5 should of been 2 episodes minimum with 1 episode being post white walker battle, then another episode with the lead up to what took place in episode 5 instead of mashing it all into episode 4.. it just feels like HBO's done dealing with GoT and want it finished as soon as possible after GRRM failed to meet his end of the deal by having this next book finished before they got to season 7.

Disney hired David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, Game of Thrones writers, to do some Star Wars movies. It's not confirmed but believed it is for this trilogy.

Seen rumors of it taking place in the Knight of the Old Republic timeline. I doubt it but that would be awesome. Completely remove it from Skywalkers, Solo, Yoda and more.
If they hire those writers, then there is some hope it won't suck.

I feel like one of the major problems with this season is that they’re trying to cram two or three seasons of material into a handful of episodes. The plot turns aren’t bad themselves but they’re not developed properly. The twist in the abysmal last episode would have worked fine if it was done differently and had more build to it.

Nothing could save the death of those two characters though. That was just shitty writing.

it's both the pacing and writing but I agree that everything feels rushed...here's an excellent article detailing the S8 issues...

In my estimation, pacing is the reason for the final season's issues...this and this alone is the reason for the tepid reaction to this entire season of Thrones...the problem isn’t with what is happening...it’s with how it’s happening...on paper, it looks great to say Daenerys will become fueled by jealousy, just like her older brother Viserys became in season one when he saw the Dothraki idolizing his sister instead of himself...it looks great to say she’ll descend to 'The Mad Queen' status much like her father...it looks great on paper to say Cersei and Jaime will die in the cells of the Red Keep, with the castle they fought and schemed for literally and metaphorically collapsing atop them...and it looks great on paper to say that, in the end, the real war won’t be between the living and the dead or between Daenerys and Cersei, but instead will be between aunt and nephew

The problem is, each of these transformations of character weren’t given the time they deserve to occur naturally...time became the antagonist...where the characters have ended up with one final episode left is fine...it’s believable on paper...however, in execution, it’s hard to believe that Daenerys would transform from liberator and hero to malicious murderer over the course of two episodes...

Benoiff was one of the writers behind X-Men Origins: Wolverine.....

Along with 25th Hour, Kite Runner, and Brothers. The writers of Endgame wrote all the Narnia films, Cap 1, and Thor: The Dark World. David Goyer was a writer on all three Nolan Batman movies and yet he wrote absolute dogshit like Blade Trinity, Batman vs Superman, and the Hasslehoff Nick Fury movie. David Schow wrote both the Crow and Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. Good writers write bad movies, bad writers write good movies. According to the director, Gavin Hood, there was a lot of studio interference. So, who knows what was changed and exactly how much of either writers work was retained. According to Ryan Reynolds they didn't even have a completed script when shooting began. The original plan was supposedly to make a much darker, R-rated, movie. So, who the heck knows what Benoiff's scripts looked like once upon a time.

Yes and it is a bad hire. After Game of Thrones season 4, the show went downhill and that is because Benioff and Weiss diverged from the source material. The show turned from great \ something new into something Hollywood would make. The two of them decided to do their own stuff and characters went out of character, tons of plot holes appeared, consistency disappeared, and suspension of disbelief was killed in many of the scenes. The original writer (GRRM) of the books which the show is based on wasn't happy about it either. Seasons 7 and 8 were really bad.

I don't have much faith in them doing Star Wars well.

Ya shitty writing it was but at least they could have did the transition better. HBO offered much longer seasons to flesh out the stories. Benioff and Weiss refused. Im guessing they wanted to finish it fast and move on to Star Wars.

Considering that they're past where he's written that's not entirely unexpected. They probably should have waited until he was done writing before they adapted it to TV to avoid this entirely.

Reminds me of a great Stephen King quote which I think also separates good writers from not so good: "Story follows character. Character does not follow story".

When you try to bend the train tracks to an outcome that isn't decided until later on, you end up with a corrupted mess.
