Rage 2

I like it so far. The world is pretty awesome.

The only thing I don't like is having to find certain things in areas (like a crate, etc). If I can't find it within 5 minutes, I become bored. I suck at finding shit in real life and I suck even worse in video games.

I imagine that I'll like this enough to buy it. I will need to see some footage of the game post-release now though. I tend to like other id games (including spin-offs, and ones handled by other studios) even when other people hate them. It seems like barely anyone liked Quake IV for example, and I loved it. Quakewars was fun too. I definitely don't expect masterpiece level here, but I bet it will be fun.

I loved the original RAGE, but it sounds like this isn't going to feel much like a real sequel to that. Sad, but it still looks like it will stand on its own ok. After reading some of the reviews though, it sounds like (as someone mentioned on the last page) Doom Eternal will be my main action game this year.

I'll still pick up RAGE 2 and the new Wolfenstein though I think.

Does Rage 2 offer CoOp play like upcoming Wolfenstein ? And I think Doom Eternal also will have CoOp?

It looks more like Mad Max to me. Borderlands is a looter shooter, Rage is just an open world FPS.

Perhaps a new version of IDTech wasn't ready at the time or Avalanche wanted to go with their own engine since they were acting as lead developer on this.
It was explained in several interviews that they decided to go with Avalanche's Apex engine because it was better suited to open world games than id Tech. At least they're making informed decisions like this in contrast to EA forcing everyone under their purview to use Frostbite.

Yeah, glad I waited. Game is very split on Steam, and it seems to be for good reason. What a shame. Wait for the bargain bin I suppose (just like Rage 1)

Well there are 3 id style game releases this year 2019;

- Rage 2
- Wolfenstein Young Blood
- Doom Eternal

Which is a great thing to see. So it seems Rage 2 is ok, not great, not bad. I think I'll hold out on this one, until it's on a Steam sale for $19. I really am looking forward to Wolf YB, as that is supposed to have true CoOp play, which is missing from games today, a fun CoOp game to run together with a family member or buddy, and go through the a single player story is so much fun, hope it's good. And Doom Eternal might be good.

Hopefully YB is a lot better than New Colossus.

Yup, I know. PC Gamer said they said an Arkane input and mentioned level design like Dishonored for at least some of it which raised my hopes a little. ;)

As for this: I like it. I had some birthday money on Steam so my out of pocket was negligible and I was itching for something new.

A little Borderlands, a little Just Cause, a little Max Max with some solid and occasional frentic, tight FPS gameplay and some tricks is what I'm seeing here and it's fun.

These games deserve support with your wallet at the level you all feel is appropriate if you want to see more of them.

I don't think I can recommend Rage 2 at full price for this but I can say: If you're a fan of single player games and FPSs people should consider supporting it with their wallets at the level they feel is appropriate. It's stable, solid, competent and gives fans what they want.

Get support characters, build your your base, build up your skills and abilities, get lots of cool toys, and a decent post apocalyptic sci-fi story. What's not to like? ;)

There are enough options in the game menus to dial this game in for most tastes and preferences.

No problems with the vehicle controls with KBM.

If you have played Just Cause and Mad Max you will be right at home here along with solid FPS mechanics.

You could do a helluva lot worse!

7.5/10 worst case. I'll let you all know if that changes as I go further in.

Played a little over 2 hours now...I will update my last post and say this game is pretty good and really fun. Upgrading abilities and weapons is cool. Graphics are pretty nice running on ultra at 4k. worth the 40$ i paid for and got the dlc. Pretty stable game to on the Bethesda launcher. I have had one crash so far and for the most part have not seen any bugs

have played quite a few hrs into the game now and I must say I am surprised at what they have done. Running 4k /w 2080ti all settings maxxed out and the the game looks very good. The Story is somewhat lacking, but the combat more than makes up for it. To me this game lacks the gritty feel of past id software titles but being that it is co developed with avalanche this is not a surprise. ( I want the old ID back) Other than that I give it an 8/10 very much worth the price of admission.

How similar is it to the Mad Max game? I feel like these things are pretty similar in feel.

I'd buy it right now except for one thing. Their brand of humor. It's not that I'm against humor in games, not that I'm even against the occasional game with juvenile humor. I love Borderlands including it's sometimes asinine humor. It makes me laugh even though it's not exactly my type of humor for the most part. However, from what I've seen of RAGE 2 so far, it just seems very unfunny to the point where it may be distracting. I can't pinpoint the exact differences, but Borderlands seems like semi-crass, juvenile humor written by people who are somewhat funny. The bits I've seen in RAGE 2, looks like it was written by actual 12 year olds.

If I'm wrong here, please let me know, because otherwise I think it looks like a lot of fun. I just don't want to be annoyed to hell and back to enjoy the rest of the game.

Edit: I just watched a bit more video, and I didn't even notice any "funny" dialog this time, so I guess if it's just limited to certain situations, I can probably live with it. :D

Borderlands goes with the “throw everything at the wall and see what sticks” approach to its humor so some of it works and some of it doesn’t but most people are bound to find something funny in it. Helps that the games don’t take themselves seriously and are often irreverent.

Played for 20 minutes it's a nice game cheesy story I switched to a controller though because I forget what all the keybinds do on a keyboard. I got my 160.00 pair of headphones to play with the game sounds awesome 58X sennheisers. Not sure if I should buy a mic boom or yeti blue.

I only played less than an hour so far. It's not that great. Driving is awfully simplified, nothing like in Mad Max. Characters so far are forgettable. There seems to be too much collectible shit and abilities. It was just plain confusing. The game pours a ton of exposition on you trough narration in the first few minutes, it is impossible to get sucked into the story if it is delivered this way, not to mention I won't remember half of it for more than 10 seconds.

Rage 1 looks like a masterpiece next to this game...the first game will definitely age better and be more appreciated down the line...it's already under-rated

I love this game. And i hated Rage 1. I hate Fallout 3-4 etc, and I hate borderlands. Don't know why I like this one, but its keeping my attention pretty well so far.

It's cotton candy. It's fun. It just hit me at the right time.

I do notice even bypassing TAA for me things look a little soft to me and I wouldn't mind injecting some more color and oomph into everything.

I've only played 70 minutes, but I'm enjoying it so far. It's just another wasteland game where I'll be taking down checkpoints and collecting junk, but it looks like it's going to be easy enough to be relaxing. This game really needs a gamma adjustment because it's too bright for me, that's my only complaint.

I hated Rage 1, loved Fallout 3-4, hated borderlands, loved Mad Max, and so far all I can say about this that it is not terrible.

I figured it would be somewhere in the middle. I'm waiting for others to finish it to see how it turns out before trying it myself. Is the game stable though? Any crashing?

I'm perhaps 45 minutes into the game and I don't rush. The graphics are significantly lacking compared to my expectations. The latest Farcry looked better imho. Haven't had enough combat to really get a feel but something feels a little off but I haven't played a good FPS since the last Doom came out. I'm hoping to get a few hours into it tonight. I enjoyed the first Rage.

It was OK. It had some serious technical issues at launch, and the gameplay was lacking in many ways.

DOOM is a 100% modern masterpiece from iD.

97% of games have some launch issues. Granted, if you were ATI, RAGE had a BIG issue. Still, it was sorted quickly enough, as well as many of the other smaller issues refined out.

It also needed a more filled out last chapter. This was mitigated by having (what I thought was) an excellent DLC with some fun mission content. (the larger of the two DLCs)

I will maintain that it was a masterpiece though (and not to take away from the other id games of their times and now) but I had a blast all the way through RAGE (1). I still play it from time to time, and it still looks very good, and there aren't many other games out there with gunplay like it has. It must be taken for what it is, a simple, raw, highly focused (game play wise) action shooter. In that capacity it shines.

A lot of people still like to give it shit because that was/is the popular thing to do. The game is solid though. Sure, I'm more of a Doom and Quake guy, but RAGE (1) holds its own alongside those.

There's really not an id game or id+other dev or spinoff game that I don't like though, so I suppose that should be taken into account. Doom, Wolf, Hexen, Heretic, Enemy Territory (Wolf and QW) RAGE, Commander Keen, Quake. I love them all, and every iteration. Even things like Quake IV and RAGE that people love to hate.

Now I just need to pick up RAGE 2 and see how that one goes. I actually think I'm going to like it, maybe minus the dialog. I play id games to shoot things in ways other games can only dream of, and I think this one will do just fine in that department.

Fuck it. I just bought the deluxe edition for full price on Steam. It looks fun for the reasons that I'd want to play it in the first place, and hopefully that expansion coming up will fill out some of the world a bit. I'll have to install it on my main PC and the living room PC, and figure out whether I like it better with M+KB+32" or X1+65". Of course the M+KB is better, but sometimes I can make do for a single player game and enjoy the larger screen.

you're a big fan of iD Software so it's understandable that you went all in with the Deluxe edition...although this is more of an Avalanche Studios game...and honestly Avalanche has been riding their good rep built on JC2 for awhile despite disappointing with basically all their releases since...

Played it for about an hour last night. You guys were right in that this is literally Mad Max in first person. Not that that is a bad thing. I found myself wandering around the entire time discovering things instead of moving the main story along. But I also have to say I like the aesthetic of the first game a lot more than this. The first game had that dull, gritty feel that is perfect for a world that just experienced a global cataclysm a century earlier. This game with its bright pastels going for the Borderlands aesthetic ruins that feel for me. All the characters introduced so far also don't have any diversity in personality whatsoever. My gripes with the aesthetic aside, the gameplay is a lot of fun. The guns feel really tight like one would expect from a Call of Duty or Titanfall title. And though the driving is not as good as Mad Max, I think it feels appropriate in this world. Then again I still have only driven two vehicles so far, so we'll see how the others feel as they are unlocked.
