2080ti 2080 Ownership Club

I don’t know if I could honestly tell the difference between my 2080ti and Radeon VII. We’re definitely in diminishing returns area for rasterized performance.

I think nVidia realized this and is why they pushed ray tracing. An all CUDA 2080ti would have left people satisfied for the foreseeable future... with no reason to upgrade. That 1080ti was pretty much there for me. If it didn’t go haywire I’d still be running it.

I agree with this and have elsewhere mentioned that we're at a bit of transition stage where consumer displays have plateaued a bit. While the very top end is slowly grinding forward with VR and 4k120+, most are reasonably satisfied at 1080p or 1440p and these can be driven increasingly with more accessible GPUs, most especially if AAA- / settings-maxed gaming isn't a requirement.

And with the 2000-series with RTX, I also think Nvidia really nailed the right time to push ray-tracing hardware into the consumer space. It's been rocky, but we're really starting to see the foundations of what the technology can actually be used to do to improve real-time graphics for gaming and otherwise.


[as an aside, ray tracing seems like the perfect complement for HDR, where having 'truer' lighting information for scenes and objects can be better represented with the expanded contrast and fine color gradation possible with HDR output, and together should really help push average game fidelity up in a meaningful way]

Agreed. Once you're spending the resources on a high fidelity lighting model, it's a shame to have to either clamp the dynamic range or do that annoying time-shift between different ranges (the 'eyes adjusting' effect).

Great lighting IMO is much more interesting than making everything either reflective or refractive, just to show it off.
 
Not sure if I've ever saw this thread and simply forgot but here's a bench for mine. I probably should do another soon since I've gotten stable 4.3ghz on my 4930k since then and slightly higher GPU clocks for my OC settings.

p.s. Over the weekend I finally decided to hook up my Asus 27" 1440p/g-sync/144hz. I did this so I could try RT ultra/dlss off in SOTTR, Metro Exodus, and BFV. Pretty impressive.
 
Just recently got my 2080ti via the EVGA Step-Up Program. Upgraded from a RTX 2080 Black Edition only after having it for maybe a couple weeks. Just wasn't happy with the performance I was getting.

I also haven't been able to share my latest build with anyone yet. I present to you my RBG-less, little silent monster. Specs in SIG.

A more accurate score. This is with all case/card fans at full including a ceiling fan in the room also at full. Granted I only really use these settings for RT/DXR stuff. Get's pretty loud in the room for this. Long term gaming and the core will drop to ~2085Mhz. Usually I keep the stock core/mem settings but with a custom fan profile to keep below 60c and case fans at 60% and this keeps a pretty quite system and the core hangs in the high 1900's with occasional spikes to 2010Mhz. Volume is equivalent to a desk fan on medium. CPU is OC'd to 4.3Ghz and hangs ~40-50c most of the time for gaming. I might be able to get to 4.5 but I don't believe it's worth the extra heat or loss of life to the CPU but I suppose I could try some day just to bump this score a little further. I doubt I will though. This rig is rock solid 4k gaming now and don't want to risk anything.

An all CUDA 2080 Ti is basically the Titan V CEO edition. It's maybe 15% faster, maybe more if you OCed the thing through the roof, which isn't going to give you 4k 144hz performance anytime soon. Basically rasterization performance is simultaneously good enough for alot of things, and also too far away to anything crazy like push 8k 60fps so it makes sense to focus on something new.
 
this is when upgrades are worth the money.

I went from 980 to 1080ti and I was blown away, but you even went further than I did.
Yeah i try to skip a few generations everytime i upgrade just so i can feel like i am getting an actual value for my money. A good 5 year span is good enough for me.

Great match up with that monitor and your new card. I mainly got mine for 4k but I recently moved an Asus 27" p278q to it for some RT testing and was really impressed how difficult it was to pull the fps down then. Pretty much had to do ultra or higher(mods) in order to get anything under 60fps and most were doing well over 120fps if I didn't. Granted your doing ultra wide but even then I'd expect some impressive numbers.
 
Replaced my GTX 980 4gb with a 2080ti XLR8. This thing is a beast in comparison to the 980.

I've got the XLR8 card too. Was looking for an RVII but I had credit at a store that didn't carry any, so I bought this instead. I haven't had time to play much yet but it's a nice card, been happy with it for the 2 or 3 hours I've put on it so far!

It does get a bit whooshy when I've had it going for a while. I ought to run 3dmark on the system and see what it posts.

Yeah that seems to be my only gripe with this card is that it gets a tad loud under load. but its not too bad, just louder than my 980 was probably due to the extra fan.
 
Given what I can sell my 1080 Ti's for, I'm debating buying a RTX 2080 Ti. If I do, I won't be going SLI this time.
That's pretty much what I did. Got rid of my 2 1080's(non TI) and went to single 2080TI.
 
Yeah, it's worth it. I went from 1080 SLI to 2080 Ti SLI, but then realized I didn't need the second card and sold it. Won't do SLI again.
 
I went SLI for a couple months and ended up selling one of my 2080ti's. I was really annoyed with the frame times and heat output. Just wasn't worth it and I doubt I'll be going back to SLI in the future. I'm having a great experience @ 3440x1440 with just 1.
 
I went with a GIGABYTE Aorus Xtreme. I don't ordinarily go with non-reference designs, but I wanted a better cooler and a solid factory overclock. So far I have been impressed with the build quality, appearance and the RGB LED lighting is compatible with my motherboard. That was the principle reason for going GIGABYTE this time. I've always had reference boards and the few times I haven't, I've gone EVGA.

I played some Destiny 2 for an hour and a half or so on it and that's all I've done so far. Its definitely more consistent about frame rates and the minimums are higher. I still need to try other titles but I suspect that will be the theme based on the research I have done on these things. Technically, the dual 1080Ti's have a higher potential frame rate, but these days the likely hood of achieving that seems less and less all the time. Other notes, with HDR enabled, tabbing out of a game would leave HDR enabled on the desktop making it useless. Application switching is also extremely slow on SLI systems. This is something I've dealt with for probably more than a decade or so if not always. This is the first time I haven't run SLI or AMD Crossfire in a very long time.
 
I've played several hours of Destiny 2 as well as some Ghost Recon Wildlands and Mass Effect Andromeda. Destiny 2 actually makes use of SLI, so while my minimum frame rates are certainly better, I have the occasional FPS dip during Escalation Protocol and a few other things where you end up with a ton of enemies, explosions etc. on screen at once. However, Ghost Recon Wildlands and Mass Effect Andromeda run more consistently and seem to run better. I haven't done a bunch of benchmarking or anything, but the overall experience is much smoother. There were times where I would see performance drops here and there in either of those games which isn't the case now.

Another added bonus is the GIGABYTE Aorus Xtreme RTX 2080Ti cooler is much quieter than the GTX 1080Ti reference coolers on my SLI setup. The card runs cooler, power consumption should be down compared to two cards (slightly) and the system is quieter as a result. All in all, I've been very pleased so far.

MEA is night and day difference for me coming from the G1 gigabyte 1080's to the single Strix 2080TI. Game definitely had some Vram issues in 4k plus the usual SLI problems. Still has occasional dips for me as well but minor compared to before. It's a game I mean to go back and replay.
 
Yes, Dan_D , that was my experience as well.

Looking at straight FPS numbers (especially in benchmarks) makes SLI look decent, but the actual gameplay experience can be worse than 1 card. It seems that single card just has more consistent frame times.

There are only a few games where SLI is solid, like the recent Tomb Raider titles or Sniper Elite and maybe a couple others. For the most part you end up slightly better fps, slightly choppier frame rates, and double the price. Not exactly a good deal.

I'm getting off topic but I really can't say enough about the quality coding for this game. For the 2080TI rig this is my reference for DX12/4k/HDR/Atmos/RTX/DLSS. I keep RT at med and it seems to be a lower load for the GPU than smaa x2 which allows a truly solid 60fps in 4k and the card can keep quite at under 60c. On the other side of the SLI fence I love how on a MSI GT80 Titan laptop w/ 980m's in SLI it can run in 1080p at 55-60fps, all settings maxed including smaa x4(using 6-7GB vram too!), but Crysis 3 still brings the same rig down to the mid 40's. I could join others in nitpicking some of the game play stuff but I do feel the programming team deserves some recognition for their achievements here. That being said going to sign off and go play some-last DLC came out this week!
 
Just got my Aorus Xtreme RTX 2080Ti today and I am impressed. Runs cooler than my MSI GTX 1080ti Duke. Played a few games on it so far and I'm happy.

I've been rather impressed with mine as well. Its one of the few non-reference designs I've ever sprung for and the only GIGABYTE video card I've ever owned.

The only other Gigabyte video card I've owned was a GTX 480. That card lasted me for quite a few years until my recent build.
 
Anyone having displayport not working issues? Hdmi works but not displayport even during post.

No but did update drivers recently?. Just wondering if you got a new driver bug we haven't heard of yet. Maybe a firmware upgrade causing the same or something changed a setting. Just grasping a straws for simple solution for you.

At 4k, a single 2080Ti isn't as fast as I'd like it to be. It can drop into the low 50 FPS range playing Destiny 2 when shit gets crazy.
 
If anyone is having Displayport issues (blank screen / no input from source / BUT HDMI Works) with 2080/2080ti's. Powercycling the monitor will resolve the issue. (pulling power waiting 30 seconds plugging back in)

*hope I can save someone a headache that I had to figure out the hard way.
 
So I got a sweet deal on a Zotac Amp Extreme 2080ti (free!) and have been test running it for a few days with my Alienware AW 3418DW no HDR (3440x1440 = 4,953,600‬ pixels) G sync on Division 2 (the only game I'm playing right now). It replaced my former test setup which was a RADEON VII and a Monoprice MP 49" ultrawide HDR (3840x1080=4,147,200‬ pixels) free sync.

Since Div 2 doesn't have any RTX or other fancy features, it basically came down to frame rate and as can be expected the 2080ti was faster - anywhere from 10 to 30 frames - BUT in both cases they were pushing high tens-low 100 frames and with variable sync on each respective platform, both performed smoothly without any stutter at all.

If a gamer came and sat down, they would most likely be more impressed with the bigger monitor from the sheer size and not notice any difference at all RE: IQ/PQ from their eyeballs.

BTW: Jasonx82 I had blinking issues on display port and fixed it by replacing the cheapo cable that came with the monitor. Might be worth trying out.

I've seen this happen with all my setups from time to time which spans from SLI to non-SLI to RTX and non-RTX cards. I believe it's likely something being buffered into Vram. I've gotten used to keeping an eye on both CPU, Vram, and drive activity during these moments and nearly always there's significant activity when it happens. Some games are designed better than others for these kind of issues. There's a plethora of things that can cause it though. Best things a user can do is have a clean, fast system. Fast mobo, cpu, ram, drive(s) and keep the OS clean and lean during game play. No absolutes but those help. Occasionally a borked driver from NV will skew things too. If you've got all those things in order it's usually safe to say it's them(the game) and not you or your card. I'd also make sure you're using all 3 of those power connectors for that card. Some have said their more for show than actual performance increase but I doubt it will help if they're not being used. That card was actually my 2nd choice.

I kind of doubt it possible to fully get rid of this issue in all games or even just one game unless that game is perfectly designed and running exactly with the right drivers/OS and over the top rig. If you do I'd be curious to the exact details.

I've never seen that in Destiny 2 and I've got allot of time in it on my RTX 2080 Ti. More than any other game. However, I do have drops in framerates down to around 49 FPS sometimes if there are a lot of enemies on screen. SLI works decently with Destiny 2, so its the one title I play where I think I took a step back in performance. As I've said, it's probably more consistent and is certainly smoother outside of that. If I had a variable refresh rate capable monitor, I wouldn't be using traditional V-Sync, and I don't think this would be as bad of an issue. I can sort of get adaptive V-Sync to work, but I still get massive screen tearing, although its certainly smoother and faster than if I use nothing at all. The screen tearing with V-Sync disabled is horrendous, because I'm using a 60Hz 4K monitor, and the frame rate sits around 80+ allot of times.
 
Recently got the ASUS ROG 2080ti Matrix. Its beastly.

Here are some stock setting results. Stock OC mode 1815mhz CLOCK. 14,800mhz MEM. Fans Auto.

PC Specs : AORUS Extreme z390 MB, i9-9900k, 5.0ghz OC, 1.285v : G.Skill DDR4 @3600mhz, Crucial SSD 1TB, 1000W Plat. Corsair PS. Alienware ultrawide 34 - 3440x1440p 120hz OC.

Firestrike DX11 - Default Preset - 28,935
Time Spy DX12 - Default Preset - 14,898

Games ( A little over 2 hour run of each)

Rise of the tomb raider - Ultra with Ray Tracing on - Max 142 Min 77 Average 110 @ 3440x1440p 120hz
Destiny 2 - Ultra, HDR, 125% render quality - Max 175 Average 125, Min 102 @ 3440x1440p 120hz
Deus Ex Mankind Divided : Ultra across all settings - Max 137 Min 82 Average 107 @ 3440x1440p 120hz


GPU : Avg. 2050-2115 MHZ. (Hitting power limit almost instantly at 380w. Then when the card heats up to about 60/62c it comes down to about 2015-2060 avg. Still awesome)
Temps : 58-65c when at 95-100% utilization under load. Idle Sub 32c. (MAX I've clocked at after 2 days of logs on GPU-Z is 69C. AVG 58.)
Noise : Barely audible even at 60% fans. Typically fans stay under 45% at 60c. I will run a custom curve to get cooler temps.
Lighting : Great but excels horizontally mounted due to the infinity mirror and back plate lighting. AURA software is crap. The LED's work when they want to, then do w/e they want. Also seems to just randomly say screw it blink blue and white. Frustrating but doesn't affect performance.


More to come as I play around with OC, but right now it devours everything I threw at it may not need to OC. At this point it will be OCing for fun. Very impressed. Loving it so far. Its a unique product with the built in AIO, same size as my old Zotac 1080ti AMP Extreme but with the additional water-cooling. I think ASUS knocked it out of the park for what it attempted to do. Sure its not getting the 2200mhz and sub 55c as the kingpin but I don't have to struggle to shove an additional 240mm AIO into my case. Also the price. Kingpin is about $2,100 with taxes while this is going for $1610 out the door (newegg prices).

Will update when I play around with some OC settings.
 
Replaced my Strix 1080ti with a Strix 2080ti over the weekend. Really liking it so far - seems to be a very well built card.

I do have 1 area of concern though, and that's with the temps. One of the things I really liked about my 1080ti Strix was the temps. That thing never got hot, and that's 1 of the reasons I stuck with Strix this time around. However, even at stock clocks, I'm pretty easily hitting 70C+ on this card. With a small core OC, I'll easily hit mid 70s while playing something like Shadow of the Tomb Raider. And this is with a pretty aggressive fan profile.

I guess I'm wondering, is it warm enough to look into exchanging the card? Or are these temps nothing to worry about and just a bit warmer than normal? Still trying to get a feel for where temps should sit with these cards.

Other than that, loving it so far. SotTR looks amazing with everything, including ray tracing, cranked up to the max.
