Msi gt72s dominator laptop. The steelseries keyboard uses a program called steelseries engine to light the keyboard. When the laptop comes out of sleep no lights. Also can't open the program to fix, instead have to shutdown the program with ctrl alt delete and restart it.

Steelseries engine app is updated and laptop runs window 10. Any idea how to fix this?

Well I solved it. For the benefit of other MSI laptop users, here is the solution:
1. Uninstall SteelSeries app.
2. Download older version of SteelSeries app from MSI website:
https://www.msi.com/Laptop/support/GT72S-6QD-DOMINATOR-G#down-driver&Win10 64.
3. Restart PC, install Steelseries app from MSI website, restart again.
4. Turnoff auto updates within Steelseries app. It seems as though the newer versions of the app don't work as well (perhaps this is why MSI has the older version on their website).

MSI ranks at the bottom of laptops in terms of tech support and software.

But their hardware is sometimes cheaper on sale, so it is a tossup on whether they are worth it. I don't recommend them anymore unless you are okay dealing with software issues like this one:
