Buyer wants return ram and I have to pay for return shipping?!

This just means they didn't sell as high as the seller had hoped and this is his way of cancelling the auction. I would bet they get relisted.

Nah he sent something to Delaware I have tracking info to show you. That is where the scammer lives....

That doesn't exactly prove much, probably just tracking from something else he sold or anything. It's too coincidental that it sold way under value and then the seller was dumb enough to get scammed by some random 3rd party pretending to be you for a cheap headset ..

Why would he send a priority letter to some remote location for tracking like 5.00 and say he shipped the item to me. The guy had 100% feedback the tracking was on spot for the bid and it's not like he was selling 100 items a day he had 4-5 listings.

This is why I avoid eBay at all costs and either sell locally via Facebook Marketplace or on the FS/T forum here for tech stuff.

something i have learned is not only is the customer almost always wrong, he's usually an idiot.

Yup, sold a video card to someone on eBay some years ago and got a bunch of messages from them shortly after delivery. "The card is broken!" "You're a scammer!" "I'm going to demand my money back!"

Yeah, turns out, they didn't plug power into both PCI-E power connectors. They just assumed you only had to plug in one or the other.

My guy lives in Delaware too. Been like 24 hours now and not one reply from the guy. Anyhow thanks for all the input. Wasnt getting notifications on Hardforum. Maybe he doesnt either!

Anyhow thats good to know that u can do a return and not have to reimburse until you receive the product. Will authorize usps if it fits shipping if he responds.

Should have not sold it in the first place. Thats sellers remorse.

Thanks

I believe in fairness in that if he wants to do a return he should cover costs. Wish I kept the ram. 2800 mhz isnt the fastest anymore i know but i could have still used it somehow.

This.

Also, to OP, I would refuse the return. Drag your feet and make them dispute. Once in dispute, make your case that the listing was accurate.

And then eBay/Paypal might give the money back to the buyer AND they will get to keep the RAM.

I've only ever had to deal with one buyer that claimed "not as described" even though it was exactly as I described it. Either they didn't look at the pictures and/or read the description or planned to scam me. I ended up having to give them a partial refund.

I would definitely try to resolve it without a return though.. if the buyer can be worked with. Ask them what the problem is and try to help them.

No, I can write very convincing emails. I don't plan on listing them.

Well I didn't get a written reply from him but I got an automated 'Buyer claims items are defective' response from ebay and that the paypal funds are frozen.

I replied back I will be happy to issue a refund but need a verbal response and a photo verifying the items.

Think that is only fair.

What should I do?

This guy knows how to work the system for sure, he's not replying on purpose. You're going to have to accept the return, and pay shipping. Just hope what you get back is the same you sent out, and that it still works. What's his eBay user name btw?

Edit: Looked him up. 400 something positive reviews and no negatives. At least item has lifetime warranty. His loss.

If the buyer sends something different back, you can file a mail fraud case which will get something going.

Unfortunately the guy is ghosting me.

That means he's most likely trying to scam you and realized you're not going to be easy. I've had this happen a few times, they ask for a return, then ghost you and then the case is settled in your favor because they didn't respond.

Well lets see what happens. If I dont get my modules back there will be a problem.

Totally agree here. You can say a lot about Facebook but the Marketplace is a good way to sell furniture, bulky electronics, and household items. Nextdoor is another local option and will only be seen by your neighbors. Since it is free, you'll have to wade through a lot of people just asking questions and low-balling. I sold my 75" 4K TV on FB Mkt to someone locally and helped them get a mount and hang it.

Last time I sold anything on eBay was when I sold my old A/V receiver. They disputed with " Item not as described. " It ended up needing a processor reset for some reason, which I assume was because FedEx is crap and banged it around. Buyer didn't want to troubleshoot, so I had to give him back his $1500 plus pay to get it shipped back, which was $86.

So. I use AVS Forum to sell A/V gear, [H] to sell computer parts, CL and FB Marketplace to sell everything else.

You shouldn't have agreed to "accept the return"

Hi,

I sold some ram on Ebay. Was HyperX 4x8gb C14 2800mhz Ram modules used but in working condition. So I sold it for like $140 shipped and buyer wants to return it because he said it didnt match the description which is ridiculous. I took clear photos of each module.

In anycase I have nothing against taking a return but not if I have to pay for return shipping costs. In matter of fact I have no idea if this guy wants to return them because he was hoping for Samsung B die and got Hynix or if it doesnt overclock like he would like.

So I don't know what to do. What should I do?

Thanks

He will need to pay for the return. You can call Ebay/Paypal and they will side with you on this if you are concerned on it.

Doesn't matter if "No Returns Allowed" is checked if the buyer says that the item is not as described.

He would have to provide photos to Ebay explaining why it isn't as described or it doesn't fly. I've never had an issue with Ebay not backing me for crap like this.

Here are two incidents I had in the past 5 years and they both worked out in my favor. Just keep your ground and make sure to call Ebay/Paypal to discuss it.

1. Sold a Valentine 1 radar on eBay. I took pictures, and video of it working. I showed video of me packing it and pictures. I had Insurance, tracking, and signature required on the carrier.
--- Guy received it, and complained it didn't work. I asked him some basic questions if he tried another outlet, did he try another car, and so on as it worked before I shipped it. All he kept responding with to Paypal was he wanted a refund. I gave Paypal all my pictures and video, after talking to the, they agreed since he wasn't willing to troubleshoot, and return the device, they would not honor his request. They also thought he seemed to be a scammer due to his English was very broken and never would answer the questions.

2. Sold a laptop on eBay. Same routine, Pictures and video of it working, and packing. Sent it off. Guy got it, and 2 weeks later, said it wouldn't boot up any more and wanted to return it for a refund. I asked them because as it says on my auction, no refunds. So I asked why it took him this long to get back to me. He said it just had the issue. I told him, he needed to contact the manufacture for the warranty. I am not responsible for the laptop if it has an issue after you used it for 2 weeks. He still tried to push it. Paypal eventually denied him as it was obvious he was trying to get a free laptop. Again, I offered for him to return it on his dime, but he refused.

Like I said, as long as you have everything done correctly. Paypal will protect the seller. Most people are lazy and won't go through this.

So the usual here.

Since you had 2 things go good, then the rest of the people are just lazy. Got it.

No, most people won't take detail pictures and video of them packing it and of it working.

Make sure to record the serial numbers of all sales as well, try not to use "just the stickers". Sometimes a buyer just wants an easy free replacement for their broken gear.

I sold a high end graphics card once to Puerto Rico (never again, btw... sorry). I even directly communicated that since it's a "real" graphics board, it requires the extra two power connects, etc. The dude returned it... and likely because he had no idea what he was doing.

Either that or they are just simply scammers. I sold an old Macbook, and the guy wanted a discount since the battery life wasn't as good as the ebay pre-filled info said. Turns out, the guy owned a computer store in Chicago and was buying cheap Macbooks and then trying to maximize the profit by claiming things weren't as advertised and getting money back off of the people he purchased from. I actually contacted the other people he purchased from and we all contacted ebay to complain about the guy until he got booted.

Hopefully, the OP doesn't get boned on a bad return though.

Got an email from Ebay that the item was delivered to my address and I should now refund the buyer. One problem. Nothing behind the door. Been home all evening.

Yeah.. USPS does that sometimes when they are running late. They mark it as delivered but then don't actually deliver it till the next day.

Is the tracking USPS?

And you definitely need to verify the contents before issuing a refund.

Usps sucks so bad at tracking. Give it a day. Sucks to be in this situation....

They shipped it to my old address from 2 1/2 years ago. I checked my profile with Ebay and all of my addresses have been updated to my new address. Just ebay still held on to my old address.

Its either the guys fault or ebays. Either way hes definitely not getting a refund now!

Unfortunately you probably won't have a say. They keep the option to give sellers the illusion of control, but in the end they will issue the refund regardless if they deem appropriate .

I hope you come out of this OK but ebay \ paypal do not have a record of admitting fault or siding with sellers.

Sounds like it might be worth a call to eBay. I've had decent luck getting them to accept fault when it's clearly an eBay issue, and that's what this sounds like.

Seems like it was delivered to the wrong address or a past address from like five years ago. Not sure who or how this got screwed up. I made sure my addresses were current with Ebay and was able to prove it when I called them this morning. So adter half hour hold they reviewed it and sided with my favor. Buyer wont be happy but not my fault. Still trying to track down item with USPS but could be lost.

I assume the return address was correct on the label you originally printed? In any case, it sounds like you won. If you can track down the memory, then you win 2x. :D
