An Apple lobbyist just sneakily pushed California to postpone its right-to-repair bill

I fully understand that there is a phone 5 generations old that offers some IP rating vs water. And yes it's planned obsolesence.

Please raise your hand in here if you are using that phone 5 generations old. I for one am not. Mine is only... 2 generations old but lacks a replaceable battery, yet has expandable storage.

I can't wait to see all of the responses from the both of you using a phone 5 generations old because it's water resistant and has a replaceable battery.
Well my phone is only 2(?) generations old, Samsung S8+, but I considering the level of what I do with it now, I would be ok keeping this phone through another 3 generations. However software updates most probably is what will make me change my mind on that as vendors have a practice of slowing phones down accidentally ... on purpose.

I phone, text, take pictures, use the "tools" in it (calculator, maps, etc), and browse the occasional webpage, so the strength of the processor should be more than sufficient for what it is does. Other than software accidentally purposefully slowing it down, replacing the battery would be a nice thing, and sure technically I can do it but it is a major fucking hassle versus adding a memory card. Some of this was due to waterproofing I'm sure, but a lot of it is because they had to make the back all shiny/glass (who fucking came up with that idea... makes me want to take a shit on the grave of Steve Jobs...)

I put 256GB in my phone so it now have that + the 32GB it came with / minus the 4-5 GB my background babes take up and the 5 or so pictures i have not yet deleted.
And for 2 years or so my phone with its 10 cores had 6 cores more than my PC, but now the table are reversed as my new PC have 12 cores.
The APP load on my phone i think are about even compared to how it came, i first deleted all the APPs i would never need and i could delete, and then i put 3 new APPs on.
I can also or could at least get parts for my China phone, i know some have put a new screen on after they broke it,,,,, which i find amazing i haven't done myself yet cuz really all other phones i have owned i have broken the screen on, even the old "stupid" phones back in the day.
I find Apples approach to phone repair arrogant among other things from the brand, and it is also one of the reasons i would never buy anything from that brand unless it is really soft and cheap toilet paper.

Yep , that just proof of planned obsolescence working very well.
Now yes a lot the replacement people have done are due to significant improvements the product offered... But what do you know? Devices start reaching heights performance that would assure a satisfactory experience for a longer time, aaaaand magic! Glued shit, unreplaceable batteries... Unexpandable memory.....neat tricks and very smart... I mean it is exceptional how well they plan this stuff...

I don't think anyone can object to that. Same way that once vendors realized that a 5% in performance when programs only used 2-8 cores at max would never really garner huge upgrades like we used to do in the Celeron haydays.

Now once that was realized (thanks to AMD really) that consumer level priced hardware that offered more cores would be embraced by the industry suddenly Intel is all about it. And also around that same time frame multi core aware games are becoming more and more a thing.

Hell even WOW will use multi threaded processes.

So yea for a long time people were saying "Really for performance you don't need more than 4 cores." And here lately that is shifting... just like it shifted away from never needing more than 640k of ram.

Saw the Louis Rossman video on this subject. I use an iPhone but I still hate Apple tactics.

Puncturing batteries? Ah, yes, that is why there was an epidemic of deaths back during the era of replaceable batteries in phones.

Would like to reiterate the point from the article that if Apple didn't deliberately go out of their way to engineer the devices to be difficult to be repaired in the first place then most of their concerns would be moot.

People see smoke and assume fire. Apple have IP like the T2 encryption chip that goes hand in hand with the onboard memory. You cannot open such a system to dickheads like Louis Rossman who has so much class that he lets drunk employees repair customer laptops.

Shit is soldered, deal with it. Consumers demand thinner and lighter devices and this is the compromise for having it.

Despite everything Apple do, I have no issues getting more life from my Macbooks than any equivalent Windows plastic shitbox.

You could burn your money for heat for all I care, but what is it with the attack on Louis.. I have seem tons of videos from him, and he's nothing but a decent normal human being.

Louis is a fuking parasite using trendy Apple hate for views, complains about US customs seizing counterfeit batteries he ordered from China and blames Apple for targeting him. Lets a drunk employee repair customer machines purely for the Youtube views. Not to mention butchering devices and running wire trace repairs just to get them out the door. What he doesn't show is how long these devices last after they leave his "care".

People watch his channel and call Apple products shit because he repairs so many yet most of you numpties fail to realise that the vast majority are either water damaged corrosion or very very old. Yes there are genuine failures like any laptop.
