Expired certificate causing Firefox to disable all extensions

I got the permafix a few days ago. I switched to Chrome. I've been a Firefox user for close to two decades, since is was called Mozilla, but this was the last straw. I had been staying on an older version because most of the add-ons I used weren't supported on newer builds and that's not sustainable, and royally pissed me off. Maybe it's because my FireFox directory was about 15 years old but Chrome is night and day faster. It's absurd how much faster it is. The switch made a MUCH bigger difference than moving to a SSD did. To top it off Chrome has some add-ons that don't work in Firefox, even the outdated version I was using.

FU Mozilla.

Hmm, well you did have options. Both Waterfox and Pale Moon allow classic add-ons without sacrificing performance or security. They are both worth having on hand.

Neither were affected by the expired certificate and do not enforce add-on signing.

So, I am still on 66.03 (Ubuntu/Mint seem to be taking their sweet time to get this one into the repos).

I didn't do the "studies" thing either.

Somehow one of my plugins (HTTPS Everywhere by the EFF) is magically back and working today though. The others are still disabled.

Odd.

I think FireFox is being pushed to remove Ad-Blockers and these certs are just the start. Google tried to remove ad-blockers off Chrome and people were ready to switch to FireFox. FireFox is also one of the few web browsers not using Chrome as a base like Opera and Edge does now. Wait and see, Mozilla will block ad-blockers.

If that happens it will just move outside the browser. The lists will just be applied at the firewall level instead.

Those in the know are unwilling to put up with ads. That ship has sailed.

People love to come up with crazy conspiracy theories for everything.

And of course, it wasn't just adblockers, but all extensions due to a certificate bug. It was pretty clearly not an anti ablocker stunt, but a good old-fashioned F-up, which happens. Humans, and all that.

The issue is being fixed on a massive number of releases and branches. The ESR version is updated, for those on that train. I see no reason to believe this is some conspiracy to remove adblocking (from a browser that keeps adding anti-tracking features natively with each release).

Finally. About time. The really dragged their feet on this one. I guess because it wasn't a security update.

It's a wonderful tool. Love it. Amazing how much faster the Internet is when you block this shit at the DNS level.

I don't mind ads when they're done "correctly". For example Kyle did a great job making sure ads here and on OCP weren't the nasty ones that annoy. The problem is most sites don't give a shit like Kyle did.

I mostly agree. He did a good just b of keeping them thematic, and non-obtrusive.

The exception to be where the big ones I. The background on the main page. Those bothered me a bit.

I was wondering why my ad blockers weren't working lately in FF on my phone.
I guess I should be checking the [H] forums more.

Samsung browser has been crashing when I have a ad blocking enabled in the browser even since I appealed a Youtube suspension a month ago.
