Destiny 2

You can go to reddit if you want it spoiled but... something is happening.

Can't wait to get home!

You may be getting your wish...at least to a point... on "more Whisper like quests and challenges" from what I'm gathering while trying to tapdance around spoilers. Forget solo.

Do the scores do much in terms of getting loot or just for triumphs and what not?

For one, each week Powerful Engrams are awarded for both beating a nightfall, and beating it with a score over 100k. Hover over Nightfalls on your map and it tells you this.

Do the scores do much in terms of getting loot or just for triumphs and what not?

There is a weekly challenge to complete a Nightfall strike and to complete one with a score of 100k or more. If you can complete it with a score of 100k right out of the gate you'll get two pieces of powerful gear. You will also get the emblem if you don't have it. The emblem increases your chances for rewards from the strike. Nightfalls all drop either a specific weapon, speeder, or other reward. Some of these are required for the various seals / titles. Wayfarer, Cursebreaker, etc.

Hahaha I just came here to say exactly that! Man Twitter and reddit are blowing up over this and I can't wait to dive in tonight!

Sure, but this "powerful engram" is just like any other powerful engram.. be it doing a single normal strike, crucible, gambit, etc.. just more purple gear that slowly sinks to the bottom of my vault pit. ha!

Okay.. experimenting with nightfalls will be in my books for the week.

As I said, the nightfall strikes have a chance to drop specific weapons which can only be obtained in that strike. These tend to be very good weapons for the most part. They generally come masterworked as well. There is bad luck protection as well. If you don't get the special drop, repeated runs improve your chances to receive it.

Yeah, if you're max light level then the fact that its Powerful doesn't matter much, agreed. Just infusion fuel at that point. However, its nice to chase high scores for chances at the emblem variants and the emblems themselves display your max score. Not to mention, the higher the score (to a point) the better chance there is at the Nightfall specific reward dropping.

When we're chasing power, we always do what we call "easy mode" runs so lowest possibly multiplier, whichever Singe makes it easiest and Heavyweight enabled. That nets one Powerful. Then, we'll go back for a "high score" run with a much higher multiplier and things like Blackout and Match Game enabled. These modifiers that can be mix and matched depending on what you're doing are really the key to Nightfalls being Nightfalls. Without them, they're just harder strikes.

O boy, that mission is no joke. I went in solo just for fun and had a real bear of a time even clearing the first room.

690 enemies so I would be 700 when attempting.

I went in solo and got just past the first walker before I ran out of time. Enemies there are no joke.

THAT. IS. INSANE.

I went in with two other guys thanks to the D2 fireteam app and it took us four tries in a row but we got it. WOW.

Dude. I just got it and fuuuuuuck. We didn't watch that video i linked so we decided to figure out the pre-boss jumping stuff on our own so that took us a while.

Two tethers and a well w/ Phoenix Protocol got it done. Just chained wells.

THAT right there is why i love this game. That mission from an environment perspective and some of the little "puzzles" to get through it was just incredible. Again, Bravo Bungie!

Now, tomorrow on Heroic to start off the catalyst. :-P

Well, I can't unlock the door. I tried to look into why a little bit last night and can't seem to find a consistent answer. I'll give it a shot tonight.

Do you have the Triumph "Enemy of my Enemy" completed? Its the first triumph under Destinations > Titan.

690 minimum power enemies throughout ain' no joke, folks. Don't do this unless you're 700.

Friendly tip: Study it on youtube or guides before firing it up and ideally have at least one person with an open walkthrough while doing it. (that's what we did)

This definitely came up... Orpheus was mentioned in the mix...

Stomp EEs (love these) and/or equivalents are all but mandatory for the epic jumping portions.

Oh man... I know there's a nightmare catalyst situation coming for this... ye gads.

When I went in with these two guys yesterday... and guess what? I was on Discord finally ;) ... I just kept my mouth shut and rode their coattails. It took four times for us to really get it down and two things we all saw:

1.) If one of the three members has Whisper... use it. Save its ammo for the big boys at the end and make the shots count. This guy did and it was huge.

2.) Tethering was huge. Phoenix, etc. Anything like this.

3.) Team and squad tactics.

was helping out with Subtle Calamity taking out a lot of those ads at the end while they were hitting the bigger boys with their heavier firepower. Then I was able to Super up and start flying in with Spectral Blades. We finished with maybe 4-5 minutes left on the clock which pleasantly shocked all of us as we whooped with relief and joy.

One thing that was good in that final area is that there were place to take cover so I was able to actually get something done.

4.) Ignore the clock. Stay relaxed.

That friggin' robot in that "stealth" area with the switches might be the scariest thing I've ever encountered in either Destiny game. This one guy was cracking me up on the mic spazzing out to it. LOL

That damned robot really has a lot of surprises. It will turn on you suddenly...it will find you suddenly... I fear and dread the inevitable future enemies that I know are going to built of this demented machine and this concept.

Let me say again that there are evil brilliant geniuses working at Bungie designing these levels like Whisper and now this abomination. ;)

So you went in with spectral blades and a void bow? O boy, you're looking for punishment! Spectral has always been the weakest PvE super and I think tether/blades/nighthawk would be much more effective. Just an idea for future runs.

The robots name is TR3-VR! LOL! You see it on the little map before you jump down into that room. Damn you Trevor!

The jumping section has a pretty huge skip if you're quick about it. It saves a sizable chunk of time.

Early game for me was Arbalest but after thinking about it more, since the shanks are grouped up, swapping between matching element handcannons/pulse rifles makes quick work of groups of shanks and is much easier on your ammo. When Gladd solo'ed it (yes, he solo flawless'ed the whole thing already) went through, he's switch between a Kindled Orchid (void), Nation of Beasts (arc) and Trust (solar) depending on what he was fighting. Doing that made much more sense for me.

If you've run Scourge and have any Fallen Repurposing mods, put them on! So many grenades! Not to mention any of the Fallen mods. Being able to get Heavy with a grenade kill was super clutch.

Good Lord I'm watching a YT about Heroic on this right now.

It cracks me up. How would anyone know how to play this and find all this stuff and do it blind without any help?

I'll do it. I'm not married to it but I have liked the blades for quick and easy mob clearance mostly. Sometimes I can grind into a boss and take a chunk out of them, too.

Ought to be named Satan-666. ;)

Right. The team was diversified on elementals.

Need to check.

That's the part that gets me. Within minutes of yesterdays reset, the catalyst was datamined and the first step of the quest was found. Within 3 hours, all the nodes were found and the mission was beat.

Mindblowing how people do this.

Amazing.

See my edited and lengthy post above.

If I go Hawk I lose Stomps for mobility for part of that and those insane jumps but I'll see what I can do.

I've went on and on about Whisper and how much I enjoyed it, even now, but before I ever set foot in it, i watched countless video's about all the strats and secrets to be prepared.

For this, while I found and linked that video, I never watched it. Our fireteam went in 100% blind and while it took us 5 runs to beat it, it was incredibly exciting exploring a whole new thing in Destiny without the video of someone else doing it already playing in my head.

I think the first two runs, we never even got to the boss room and the third run, we got there with 10 seconds left. 4th run, we had everything dead but the main Fallen captain with about 1/10 of his health left and ran out of time. Another 10 seconds and we would have had it. 5th attempt with only got it with 30 seconds to spare.

Now, watching it back and seeing the speedruns people are doing, there are lots of places to save time so I'm pumped for Heroic tonight (though i'm hearing its not exactly the same so that should be fun).

Yeah but you can easily swap out exotics whenever. Of all of them, I would probably say top tree Tether w/ Orpheus Rigs is the most overall benefit to the team comp. being able to generate orbs so consistently makes quick work of that room. Because there are so many groups of shanks, you have lots of opportunities to get your super back almost instantly.

Stompee's for jumping, rigs for fighting.

^^ The two guys that I ran with this morning were both talking about what had to be that video. That guy is unbelievable.

We can all study that video for tips and tactics even though most of us probably can't do it solo.

We went for 90 minutes and had to quit. The biggest problem for me was after we had learned the paths and were doing things was that ghastly platforming outside on the open dam (?) wall. The two others were ahead of me enough and I knew I was never going to make it.

It was tough and we were running out of time.

One guy went with Tether/Orpheus and had Whisper. I was doing Nighthawk with Solar (whatever the bottom most subclass is)

I was switching back and forth between Stomps and Nighthawk as situation dictated. (I can do this for anything obviously)

All tips appreciated. :)

Yeah that outside section on the side of the wall (its the giant wall that surrounds/protects the last city), there is a pretty hefty skip where you hardly do any platforming. Check out the above video to get an idea. Skip to 8:17 to see it. Should be easy with Stompees.

Side note. Gladds run was normal, but Esoterrick just did a solo flawless Heroic mode. I'm not watching it because I've been told Heroic is slightly different and I don't want to spoil it before I see it first hand.

Will watch. This was Heroic this morning that we did...or tried to do. Solo on that is past insane. I was using Stompees and my timing was way off. Jittery.

EDIT: Still can't get it. Died a dozen times in 5-6 minutes while the other two went ahead of me and I decided to quit. Moving on...

Completed Heroic with 38 seconds left on our 9th run just now. I'm shaking. Early bed time. Trevor can kiss my ***.

Can't wait to do that again in a week... /s

My issue with the door was the "Enemy of my Enemy" quest. Got the gun tonight with 2 hunters and me on a nova bomb warlock. One Hunter was 700, the other 670. Lots of fun. Will try for the catalyst maybe this weekend or so.

That was our team comp too, two tethers with me on nova for Heroic. Normal mode we relied on me on well w/ phoenix protocol which worked but was a yikes on damage. Sticking with Nova was the right choice in the end.

Heroic mode though.. its not just harder enemies.. there is more to it. Be prepared to jump.

I'm going to attempt the mission again. I finally got to it late last night and didn't make it all the way through it. We'll see how it goes.

Maybe I'll do better coming at it fresh today. My only real problem is that platforming on that exterior wall on Heroic. It's timing. That is insane that sequence.

What stinks here for me is: At least on Whisper when you make a chest run you can do it by yourself and if you really screw up it's just you and the clock. You don't have to worry about holding back the rest of the team and screwing them over when they are near the end and ready to fight and a two man squad when you need three.

I can't help but notice in a lot of these situations and YT videos a heavy preponderance of Warlocks. That levitating floating jump would be ideal for my problem but obviously I can't do anything about that. My hunter with Stomps can do it but that's definitely less elegant than the floating Warlock. Titan seems to be more the odd man out as time goes on.

I'm assuming after you get the catalyst it's a come once a week fill the Catalyst deal again? There is also that Drifter side quest and then the Engram run?

As someone who plays all 3 characters but only a Warlock all through Year 1, I have always said that it's the most forgiving for platforming, especially when using Strafe Glide. In our runs I ran with two other Hunters and during the outside portion after you turn the corner, they absolutely died a lot. Though the little ledge you start on, right around the corner, they were getting up to a sprint with Stomps on and just going as far as possible straight and making it to the stable little platform. I never saw this happen as I was usually way ahead at this point (lol, warlock master race) but that's what i'm told.

So after one completion, you get 100 SIVA particulates towards the Catalyst and I believe you need 500. So 4 more runs. Yay... Now what the Drifter was talking about is part of the puzzle for an extra reward (i'm dancing around not spoiling things here but if you know about the "extra" reward in Whisper, you'll get the idea).

Each singe week (its Void right now) you need to go in on heroic and find various tablets that match that singe. Once you get the vault (the room right before the boss room with all the terminals, right after the fire floor) there is some crazy complicated stuff that has to be done that frankly, i'm still trying to understand. it was just figured out late last night on the Raid Secrets discord and posted to reddit.

This is entirely separate from the catalyst.

Spoilers below!

Once the below two things are done on Void this week, you'll have 33% complete, just like with the Whisper ship. You'll likely need to do it again on Solar and Arc singes to get the ship. You do NOT need to beat the mission on that run for this to work so take your time.

Thanks.

I can get to the boss fight with about 6:30 remaining on the clock. Unfortunately, that fight is a huge pain in the ass. So I'm still working on it. Another problem is that the earlier fights that you can't skip depletes much of my ammunition, which over the course of the mission I haven't gotten back. At least not as much as I'd like.

After fighting in that room probably 20 times now, this is my best approximation of how the fight should go and what should be focused first. This is as if I was going to do it all solo but with 3x people, a lot of this is happening simultaneously.

  • Drop down and go below on the left or right and take out the red bar ad's, especially the vandals with a pulse. Hopefully try and also take out the turrets, they're a HUGE pain.
  • Move to the other side, still below, and do the same.
  • Shoot the boss a little and the big servitor with the shanks surrounding it will spawn. Tether hunters should now tether the whole group while a nova bomb will all but decimate everything there. If not, heavy down the Servitor and void damage for the shanks. This is where you learn its KEY when shooting those grouped up shanks that you're matching the element. Anything else is a waste of ammo and time. Void front, arc sides, solar rear.
  • By this point, Arc shanks on the left and right side of the room have likely spawned so I move to an arc weapon and take them out quickly.
  • Another giant servitor with Solar shanks surrounding it will spawn in the back of the room and try and repeat what was done for the first servitor but with solar damage.
  • I'm not 100% clear but I think killing that servitor triggers spider tanks to drop on the raised left and right platform at the front of the room.
  • We usually communicate which tank and then which leg we're shooting at to open it up then if the turret is dead, our Whisper guy will lay into the exposed neck with Whispered Breathing and chunk it down. These things have too much health to waste ammo on anything else. Remember, unlimited ammo in Whisper and the neck is a crit.
  • At the same time, the other two guys should have shifted focus to the Fallen boss doing whatever they can. At some point, i think if you get him to below 1/3, more adds and shanks will spawn on the main platform that also need to die. If you have a tether, it works wonders here. Finish off the boss and win!
