I know we talk about Black Mesa and it's brought up quite a bit, but I just found this recently and thought some of you might find it interesting since Black Mesa is remade in Source 2 and it's showing age; this remake however looks damn good.

Black Mesa for comparison:

I've been saying this for a few years now. Source looks so dated, as does Black Mesa. I played the original free release years ago and while it looked good enough for a free mod it certainly looked very outdated in some areas. Partially due it being incomplete, but the Source engine is old. What I find interesting is how old Black Mesa is. It has been in development for what, 14 years now? And the free release was around 5 years ago? And they still have not finished it. The whole point was a technological remake. While it does look better than the original game it still looks very dated.

A UE4 remake would be amazing.

I know. I still remember reading about the mod in PC Gamer magazine years and years ago. They must have started the mod shortly after Half Life 2 launched if I had to guess but I am not sure. It really is pathetic that even after the Black Mesa team took their game to Steam Early Access and started charging for it years ago that they still haven't completed Xen. I believe they are close to finishing it now, but it's taken too long too me to care about it anymore. I will admit however that they did update Black Mesa since the free mod days and it looks decent in comparison to the original Half Life which is the point of course.

Honestly at this point I would love seeing a Half Life 2 remake instead of another original Half Life remake. A Half Life 2 remake in the latest Unreal engine or something similar would look amazing.
