Did Nintendo quietly kill the 3DS?

I was looking to buy a second 3DS today and noticed that there are no stores that are carrying them in stock. Back in January Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa said that the 3DS would be sticking around for 2019, that they would only discontinue it when it was no longer profitable. Other than that I have seen no news about it since. It looks like you can still order them directly from Nintendo, but I guess stores are no longer replenishing stock? The 2DS appears to still be widely available. I had planned to just casually walk into a store and grab one off the shelf...

I checked my local walmart/bestbuy/targets and all they had were 2DSes.. no 3DS' available. Bummer.

I'm seriously thinking about going into a Gamestop for the first time in 5 years...

I feel like this is one of those, "Wait guys, we're totally still supporting it, please keep buying it!" situations while just...not...really supporting it anymore.

The 3DS is 8 years old and it has been 2 years since the switch came out. What more could you ask from Nintendo?

Just come out and say that support is dead. It's fine, it's been 8 years like you said.

Or, better yet, announce a successor because the current Switch ain't it.

What I liked about the 3DS is that games were $40 and not $60 like on the switch.

This is the only think holding me back from buying a Switch, it is rare when a Nintendo game goes on discount, at least their AAA titles. Don't really feel like paying full price for 2yr old games, ain't mad as it is just business, but it is a preventing me from purchasing another console when I have PS4/PC, and can get stellar discounted prices for games that are only 6months old.

Damn, i was about to buy a 2ds and hax it. Maybe they'll drop price... there are tons of 3ds games i haven't played.

The Fire Emblem games on 3DS are really good, definitely my faves for the system. Radiant Historia is a great JRPG if you have any interest in those.
