So I'm having issues when connecting my Samsung s5 to my pc for file transfers. When I go to transfer files it just hangs and won't allow me to transfer any files. I tried using other usb cords and even the one that came with the phone but it still does the same thing! Now whenever I go to my secondary computer any usb cord I use works perfectly fine and connects immediately, wth?! My main pc is using win 8.1 and my secondary pc using win 7. Please help me figure out what the issue is! Thanks

Kirbyrj I updated to the latest Samsung usb driver for this phone but it didn't help at all! I'm not sure what the issue is...!?

Windows Firewall is possibly halting the copy process, or some firewall if you are running something else.

I'm not using any special firewall but the one that comes with windows 8.1. Well it's not that its halting the copy process but whenever I go plug my phone in via usb it just hangs and will not connect to the pc. It actually makes all of my hard drives go away and makes windows explorer even hang! The only way to make the drives and windows explorers show up again is to unplug the phone! The only thing I noticed that somehow makes it work is to reboot then the phone miraculously will connect but it's very very random and does not always work....

In device manager I see an issue under unknown usb device (link in compliance mode) whenever I disable this and plug my phone in it pops up again! Also it gives me a USB not recognized error the last usb device connected to pc malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it wth!

Yes did that didn't work. Next I did what I posted above so I'm wondering what that might be? Is there sum special usb drivers that might update that error from occurring?

The motherboard drivers are all that are needed. When a device is connected and recognized, then the item specific drivers are loaded.

Your phone isn't being recognized by Windows. As you know the phone and cables are good from testing, and assuming other USB devices work properly on that machine, then I'd say Win8 is borked.

sfc /scannow from an admin cmd prompt to verify the core Windows files. Depending on what shows there, it may be time for a fresh install of Windows.

Krispy Kritter: it's odd whenever I reboot the pc phone is recognized right away and everything works fine! I normally put my pc to sleep before I go to bed and whenever I wake it from sleep it won't recognize it but when I reboot bam it works fine! Wth

edit your power profile and turn off the usb power savings.

Did that no help...did a restart and worked fine but eventhough it connected it still gives that error in device manager about link compliance! ?

drawing to much juice? and it acts like this on all ports?

Yep I've tried other ports same thing. Only way it works is by restarting the pc. Once restarted it works but after that it won't work until another restart? !

General process would be to use a different cable, try a different port, if using USB 2, try USB 2 and vice versa, Remove drivers completely, reboot system, reinstall fresh. Reboot phone and try it all again

Yes catbird. I've tried 4 diff cables which all work on my other pc perfectly but not my main pc. Tried different ports, removed the windows drivers, downloaded Samsung usb drivers etc nothing seems to make any difference. Only thing that works randomly is rebooting the pc then the first time I connect the phone it works but after that first time it won't work and I need to reboot pc again which doesn't always work!

does this only happen after sleep mode? if its working can you unplug and replug and it still works? have you looked at the bios options for the usb?

This is a desktop pc. It seems to only work after a reboot but oddly enough even after the reboot when it does work under device manager it still shows the link compliance error but yet it works?! Yes it seems to only happen when waking from sleep and the only way to make it work again is by doing a reboot. I will look into usb for bios. It seems to only do this with my phone. My usb stick and my other usb devices and sd cards all work...

Maybe do a factory reset, and if your phone works after that, then an update borked your phone.

Does the phone lock itself during transfer, like screen lock? Have you tried operating the device without any screen lock and seen a difference? If not, then either a software/driver issue specific to your desktop. The only real way to confirm this is not a phone issue, is to find a similar OS desktop and see if it runs the same problem.

No it does not go to lock screen. I've tried the phone on my other pc and it works perfectly fine using any usb cable. As I said before reboot is the only way to fix it but it will only work one time once the phones disconnected the pc needs to be rebooted again for it to work. It also gives me a link compliance error in device manager whenever I connect the phone but if i reboot the pc this error is still there but the phone can still transfer files

did you look in the bios? does the motherboard have any utilities for usb control like eco modes etc. how about giving us system specs/models?

Unfortunately I only have 1 win 8.1 system and my other system that it works perfectly fine on is win 7. I will look into the bios but I wonder what that device manager error means link compliance error? I have an Asus z97a mobo

Ugh none of that worked. Uninstalling the drivers did not help. Ejecting did nothing either bc after ieject and plug the phone back up it gives me the same link compliance error again....I actually have the drivers from samsungs website and it didn't help either. Whenever I uninstall the drivers it just reinstalls them but gives me the same issue after! So annoying ugh
