using a GT 740 4GB card, always has worked for the past few years. All of a sudden (about a few weeks ago) the screen intermittently goes black, comes back ... might do this a few times then stop for a long while and sometimes it goes black and stays black with intermittent ok video. It seems to be trying to set the screen resolution but failing at the task.

When the video does become stable with the GT 740 card I can run Mass Effect just fine using Origin client but when I run ME3 the screen flickers black and there's no audio. I've also noticed that opening the Chrome browser causes the flickering as well - sometimes, sometimes not.

I tried a Radeon 6350 I use for testing new motherboards and it has a stable video output so I'm thinking it has to be the Nvidia drivers or maybe some kind of incompatibility with Windows 10. It started doing this after the last Win 10 update I did about a month ago.

Anyone else having this problem?

Waiting for the “lolz AMD drivers” crowd who don’t read the thread...

run ddu and reinstall the newest drivers. if it continues, try another cable.

Did what you said, didn't change a thing ... PC is still royally screwed up. It's definitely trying to set a certain res but failing to do so so it keeps going blank, sometimes for 30 seconds or more.

sounds like the cards dying maybe a caps ruptured or is about to or something VRM related is on it's way out. since everything you've pointed at would be hardware acceleration related be it chrome(default has it turned on), games, etc. the only option i'd say is roll back a few driver versions because the GT 740 hasn't received a driver update in a couple years so what ever you go to shouldn't matter as long as the driver supports w10.. if that doesn't work then i'd say it's most likely the card.

I have had poor results using DDU and uninstall my drivers manually as shown in this article. Note that you should remove the NVIDIA folder on your C drive before performing the procedure or the old driver will be installed again.

Maybe it is a driver issue for the current one you are using, you tried older/other drivers?

was running ok tonight, somehow 1080p became 1920x1200 in ME3 but it ran fine then changed the res to 1080p and the blanking commenced. Gonna toss the GPU. Thanks folks for all the help :)

As mentioned above I highly doubt its cable, drivers or GPU it's more likely the monitor itself. I have eight monitors in use four Nvidia GPU/s and two AMD GPUs only one monitor with a brief black screen intermittently a 32" BenQ BL3200PT using display port connection. These temporary pauses have been going on with that monitor for a couple of years now. I keep checking for firmware updates, but over the two years, I have used many different drivers and tried different cables and both red and green GPUs the only constant is the monitor because no other monitor I have exhibited the same behavior just the BenQ BL3200PT. There is only one other possibility a true dual-link DVI cable must use for most modern monitors accepting DVI input so if that is your connection you could look into trying a good cable or if your Monitor has HDMI you could try that. I use my BenQ BL3200PT for Auto CAD and must use the DVI connection, but if I use it with HDMI, I don't get those momentary random pauses.

I use a Tripp-Lite HDMI switcher box, auto switches between my TV box and PC. I think that is the culprit. My 32" LG TV works fine with the switcher but for some unknown reason the 55" Vizio TV suddenly decided to not play nice with it. Time will tell if the blanking has stopped but so far this morning all is well

lol, you didnt think to mention that at the start ...

No, because it was working with the Vizio TV for almost a year and since Febuary 2019 when the main board was replaced. To date the HDMI switcher box works fine, it's the main board that is not accepting the signal properly for whatever reason(s). HDMI box still works ok with my LG 32" TV

Regarding playing ME3, yes it plays fluidly @ 1080p with no problem ... it's an MSI GT 740 4GB card. Can't play Andromeda, Crysis 3, Tomb Raider series or Metro Exodus, etc.

Yet you had an HDMI problem and you are now telling us there had previously been a problem with it as well.
It is part of the circuit.
When telling us what is in the circuit you neglected to include one of the cheapest most quality prone elements.

I agree with Nenu when you have a problem it's best to include all details of the set up you can if you want accurate help.
