BioWare's new IP: Anthem

Yep, finished it all and now bored. Got to level 30 in about a week playing about two hours worth a day at hard level.

14 hrs to 30?

It took me 20 hrs to get to level 10.

I know players with 500+ hrs that are still working on achievements.

Proves we all play differently for sure.

Ive been playing day came out.

Graphics are amazing, 75" 4k /w freesync, its mind blowing me.

I love playing Ranger and Storm, its like iron man game, i have blast, i draft off into game.

I haven't got board yet. I quit wow, this game is better then wow.

It is simple you do attainable goals when you are in a team doing content creation. That not everything is possible on the list you have is not that uncommon what is good is that they see it and don't implement features half baked like Funcom used to do on Age of Conan.

Also Bioware was busy fixing things what they did and the order they did it in shows they know what they are doing.
If anything that lists shows us they made the right decision.

Though the new stronghold was welcome I do find the game getting boring still and I think that mostly has to do with PVE without a storyline to keep it interesting. Bioware should add PVP sooner than later.

Doubt that PVP is an option in this game. It would need to strip a lot of game mechanics (flying) for it to might work.

SHUN THE NON-BELIEVER!!

That being said, there are plenty of successful PVP games that have flight mechanics and I think ANTHEM PvP can work if maps and rules are done right. But thats just my opinion :)

Absolutely no one is "shocked" that road map turned out to be false.

I don't think anyone at this stage is surprised. The road map update seemed honest and straight to the point so we'll see.

I went thru the NMS PC launch. They had a great comeback. Giving BioWare some time on this as I do like the game.

It's easy enough to play other games while this one is worked on. Not like I haven't done that before..

LOL.

NO.

Dude..."Not Everything" did they even delivery a 1/4th of what was on that list?

And what they delivered there are few problems with that content. That shows they did it well.
If you need to fix game bugs that are crippling game play then yes content is not the most important thing there is to chase.

IDK why people still playing this. With all the trouble EA having there. This game is going to be abandon soon.

IDK why you even post here.

No one knows more about the state of the game than the people currently playing it.

Amazing really, how concerned people are about what other people do or do not play.

If you feel EA somehow did you guys wrong feel free to start a separate EA/BW hate thread.

Your'e not telling anyone playing the game anything they don't know already.

It's that simple.

Hm, not sure how this flew under my radar until now. Grabbed for $30 from cdkeys, even if I get a fun 30 hours of exploring the world I'll be happy.

Paid for it just the same as you did bud, I'm entitled to my opinion.

We are not disputing this but is it fair that the people that enjoy this game keep hearing your utter disappointment with this title because I never signed up for that when I bought my copy of Anthem ...

I can't see multiplayer ever working in Anthem without a massive overhaul. One so massive that it would end up being a borderline sequel.
The game sold surprisingly well as-is, too. They probably aren't motivated to do much with it. Knowing how most companies work they'll just put all of their serious fixes and additions into Anthem 2.

You mean the same amount of players as in maybe Battlefield 1 (or the other current title sorry lost count)?
It uses the same engine you know that right ?

People portrait this game as a failure and it is not and it is not a success either. Should Bioware abandon this game purely on some perception of the status of the game, I don't think so.

You more or less alienate your current customers, thank you for paying for our alpha project and please spend your money again in maybe something that looks a bit better for media optics , that is not a rolling endorsement for your skills as a company either with programming or in public relations...

How....is the game not a out right failure? I know we'll never get the numbers....but I'd love to see the drop off on players over time.

It's not really about the engine so much as the actual game. There are million games that use the Unreal engine, but it's not like you can just plop multiplayer PvP into all of them effectively. The movement, guns, abilities, etc. just aren't designed for PvP without a total overhaul. The amount of trouble that would require vs. simply tossing in more fortresses or another couple clone story missions isn't worth their time.

We're also talking about the modern age of gaming where every major game release is either flawless or a complete hunk of trash with no in-between. People have made up their mind about Anthem at this point. The hour-long neckbeard rant videos are already there. A slapped on multiplayer mode 7-8 months after release isn't going to get any more sales and it's not going to make anyone go back to it. Treat it like Dragon Age 2 and move along.

What you are saying here makes no sense whatsoever (originally I thought your comments were about cataclysm that part multiplayer).

Taking Diablo 3 as a reference is that PVP does not tend to work in a PVE centric game. For those developers to implement PVP it would have been a process that should have started over a year ago. This is not easy and requires tons of balancing and I can not see anything regarding sales as a incentive to push this.
Games that do have a PVP background tend to do well Dark Age of Camelot. and the reverse adding more PvE content did work but again did not do anything for DAOC because the main crowd were PVP players.

I never heard about anyone that I take seriously that they bought a centric PvE game with the expectation that there getting PVP some times soon without any of the features being highlighted(launch or pre launch) in any way shape or form.

Wait, what? Are you saying you think they should add PvP or not? I said it wouldn't work without a shitload of effort that would lead to nothing. People have made up their minds about this game already and they didn't expect PvP from the beginning.

I'm saying that if there is going to be PvP in this title it is unlikely to be this year (meaning that anything coming this year marked as PvP is prolly a rush job) and if it is coming it is likely to fail badly. Which in the case of Anthem does not help it at all.

Not a failure? While we may never get exact sales numbers the fact that EA isn't screaming to the press about the game meeting or exceeding sales expectations says a lot. It also didn't chart, at all, in the March NPD reports. Its down to 15 in the UK weekly charts (it started out at #1), down to 33 on the Japanese charts (also from #1 at launch). Doesn't really look like the game had much staying power after its release.

Even with the likelihood that it under performed I hope Bioware doesn't abandon it, but they need to get their shit together with the roadmap. Delaying stuff and getting pissy at users that won't ask the utterly meaningless questions you want them to during a livestream does not paint a good picture for Bioware or Anthem right now and it is only going to make more people stop playing and give the game even more of an image problem.

Sales does not mean everything , never played fortnight nor apex legends.
EA pr is kind of confusing as well they said that battlefield V was a failure sales wise and it sold over 6 million , so much for failing I guess.

The problem is that after Anthem got released the bulk of the people move onto different projects. That is why there whole lot of fixes coming and no content those programmers assigned to content were to busy fixing bugs ...

It is easy to lose track of things but the amount of bullshit artists on youtube where if one of those drama queens get upset all of them are from that instant or simply gamers from youtube that never had any interest in playing this game but wanted to do something before their Division 2 got launched skewed a lot of things. EA propaganda machine (EA game changers) turning against Anthem was a revelation as well.

In a Livestream you can not explain why EA again screwed Bioware over in the same manner they did when SWTOR was released. The only thing you can do is take the fuel away from the fire. They admitted as much as telling people to much information to soon (their fault not EA). But you can not have a stream and assign blame to everything and expect that would go well either way.

And in a way I don't care for this either because it does not fix a single issue with the game. Bioware needs to put in some work and that people need to judge that, not how the optics are on the internet , let them hire some stupid pr firm for that ...

Sales mean everything. Fornite and Apex aren't measured in unit sales, but they are still measured in terms of what their microtransactions generation and measured by their userbase. Those are also free-to-play titles, Anthem is a $60 game. It has to push units and maintain a playerbase in order for those microtransactions to actually generate money.

Failure or success is measured in profit and meeting or failing to meet sales projections. Much like a movie can make hundreds of millions of dollars and still be a bomb a game can sell millions of copies and still be a failure. For some games a few hundred thousand sales would be considered a massive success, a million a near impossible miracle and for others getting only a million sales could mean the death of the studio. EA expected Anthem to sell 6 million units within six weeks, that being the end of March. Almost a month later and EA is dead silent on the matter and no one at Bioware is saying anything about sales either, that isn't a good sign.

Anthem was in fact the best-selling game of February, and is now the second best-selling game of 2019...Anthem is BioWare’s second best selling launch title of all time, losing out only to the critically acclaimed Mass Effect 3...

Leaving aside the dubiousness of that article, such a vague metric without revenue figures to back it up are absolutely meaningless when the game has been available at bargain bin prices for most of its retail life.

PC copies can still easily be found at 50% off, and console copies are even more heavily discounted at 66% off for the PS4 version in my region.

Being the best selling game doesn't amount to much when most of the copies sold only generate half the revenue of a full priced game. It is quite evident Anthem is not meeting revenue projections otherwise EA would have released an announcement gloating about its success.

And considering that the Anthem subreddit has lately been in open revolt, there isn't likely to be much of an online population for much longer in order to sustain ongoing sales of the game.
