What caught my eye was the extremely desirable lack of water! what are those coolers?
 
What is this beast being used for? Have you weighed it? inserted "can it play Crysis?"
I'm guessing modeling or simulations?
 
But what about when the CPUs and/or that first GPU are actually being exercised, and not just idling?

GPUs get as high as 77'C under heavy load, no thermal throttling, and that is even under games , not when used for deep learning

CPU's get as high as 40'C under heaviest load, again that's not even near any issues.


This is not accidental, I put a lot of thought into the cooling. This is my third build refinement.

Yep, looks like the fans have plenty of area to pull air in from. Nice build!
 
Happy to report that Ray Tracing is alive and well in Metro Exodus with my Titan Vs

They overclock ok about 5%, I have not tried higher, and other than just curiosity, I don't overclock

The retail on the 8180M is $13806 each. I did not pay that - far from it.

so without wininig the lottery will be very dificults to build this machine ,even with just one VGA.
those cpu need 4ghz at least :)
 

I have been tracking this, and looking at how it actually works, I'm not impressed. I'm not just talking about the 400W TDP, but the fact that each core has a drop in efficiency - yes, in cloud and server it makes sense. However, just looking at the 64/128 Amd product. - I'm already familiar with what "chiplets" really means. Remember bulldozer?

So, I shall patiently see where real perforce is.

also, the intel new 56 core chip is two 28 core chips on one bga hardwired to the motherboard, it is not a cpu that you can pick up or remove as some may think.

and I already have 56 / 112 cores on a workstation....
 
btw about cooling ,noctua NH-U14S DX-3647 is better option for your setup or you haven't tryed it?

It will not fit. But thank you for the suggestion.

it wont fit if I want to have 4 titan Vs. The cooler protrudes over the first 2 pcie slots.

The d12 will not fit either, protrudes over first pcie slot.

so far only the supermicro cooler and the noctua 9 fit.

I have all 4 and tried them, I found that the one I'm using is keeping my cpu temps at 79'F on normal and under load the temps don't get higher (EVER) than 112'F maxed out.

In fact my air cooling is better than many folk's water cooling for that particular cpu.


I tried to get the d12 noctua to work and reengineer it and shave finsd etc. Looking messy, I was able to get it installed. Cooling capacity was with 1'C of the noctua D9 so I stuck with the D9

It is a limited market of compatible coolers for a cpu that has a TDP of 205W, and I have 2x of those 205w cpus on one board with 4 Titan V's and 384GB of ram - hence why the open case design ;)

not a intel/nvidia fan but gotta give ya credit for the slap ya around and take no prisoners build :)

after your post I decided to whip out some outside of the box thinking:

I wanted to use the noctua NH-D9 DX-3647 with larger radiator and 120mm fans instead of the 92mm fan noctua units I had.


The NH-D9 DX-3647 extends 1.7cm into thew area occupied by the first video card (I use 4 video cards so I need all slots) There are TWO sockets on this mother board (dual cpu) so it requires two NH-D9 DX-3647, that extend 1.7cm into the space occupied by the first titan V.


After extensive work in augmented reality I was able to do this:

...now, if only noctua fans were not so ugly...

and remember the whole case is only 16 in x 15 in... (417mm x 372mm)

Ram fan conundrum:


A. I like silent and those fans sound like turbines

B. They won’t fit due to proximity of video card slot, I tried a few


I did buy pure copper heatspreaders and 10 packs of the pad minus 8 thermal grizzly.


I don’t like using the included two sided tape because if you reseat it or try to take it off Theresa good chance you’ll just rip chips right off the ram pcb.


And, the tape is not very thermally conductive.


The minus 8 Pad 1mm and very heat conductive and electrically inert. And isn’t sticky.


At 1mm it’s two thick tours on the heat spreaders, so i’m going to run it through a lasagna press and squish it down to .5mm (and doubling the area it would cover. Then it should be a solution.


LRDIMM best heat spreader design I can come up with :



So here is the process I went through to use pure copper heatsinks, no adhesive, and thermal ceramic clay.

Dimm Temps

medium low use / idle temps / checking mail / being on this forum temps:

about 42 C average across 12 LRDIMMs

and this concludes the experiment. some observations:


under load the LRDIMMS still get warm / hot but 13C less than before.


after a workout, the dimm temps stay higher longer due to the amount of mass / heat retention added by the ceramic clay and the copper sandwich.

seems to be an improvement overall.
