Two video cards three monitors?

Can I run 2 monitors off 1 video card and a third monitor off a separate video card? I currently have a GTX 1070 card running 2 Samsung 24 inch monitors at 1920x1080, and a samsung 49 inch monitor running at 3840x1080. I've noticed running all 3 monitors off the same video card causes a significant hit on framerate when I game on the 49 inch monitor. Could I purcahse a second video card and use it to run the 2 24 inch monitors? I assume I should stick with an Nvidia card to keep drivers simplified.

Win 10, 750 watt PS, i7-6700k, 512 GB M2 SSD, 256GB 2.5 SSD, 1TB HDD.

Sure. I'm running an RTX2080 with 3x 27" monitors and have an old GTX680 still in there running two 21" monitors also. Works fine, as long as the monitor you game on is the one attached to your primary card.

Using a same brand card keeps things simple, but even integrated Intel video ports will work fine for secondary monitors.

I'm running 4 screens off a single gtx 1080.

1280x1024 (side screen)
1920x1080 @144hz (main gaming screen)
1280x1024 (side screen)
4k TV (occasional gaming on this screen)

Would I benefit from putting my non gaming screens on a different gpu? I usually only have web browsers and steam on the side screens when gaming. I'm not usually running any youtube on there while gaming.

Modern GPUs should be able to handle multiple screens, particularly for 2D tasks, just fine. It's actually surprising IMO to hear of situations like the OP where it affects framerate or causes LAG. If you are having issues though, no reason not to give it some trial-and-error testing especially if you already have some built-in Intel video ports just sitting there doing nothing waiting to be used. On my old 2500K rig I used the Intel video ports for the secondary monitors for years. In my case the main reason I use a secondary card is lack of the exact ports I need on my main card (and because my Intel 5820K has no integrated video).

used multi monitors for years,

i got 2 x nvs 810, ran 16 monitors for testing, run greats on windows 10

downgraded to 2 amd video cards, different models video cards but this time on linux , works great,

tired many different video cards in windows, never had a problem, but ive never ran anything bigger then 22 inch monitors,

I might run some benchmarks comparing all but 1 screen disabled vs all screen enabled. I might not get around to it until the weekend but I'll post my findings here when I do.

I run 2 monitors of my 980 ti and one off of the integrated intel graphics
