Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

the hardest boss in the Souls/Bloodborne/Sekiro series is still Sister Friede (Dark Souls 3)...even the last boss of Sekiro doesn't come close to Friede's difficulty

Installed the game again just have the bug for the game I guess I never knew how to properly deflect you have to tap the left bumper repeatedly. Yeah I cheated at Snake Eyes #2 and the Horror Boss screw those guys =)

it's not about spamming the deflect key...that's not the best way to deflect...you need to time it when the swing is right about to hit you or when the guy starts his downward swing...you'll know you got a deflect versus a block by the sound it makes...plus you'll see the sparks from the deflect...the amount of times you've quit and re-started shows that you like the game and want to become a shinobi :D

use all your tools...prosthetics, fistful of ash, pellets etc

You gotta spam it with this guy or I seen Fighting Cowboy use the umbrella which I didn't have.

good Lord dude, just play the game...you're obsessed with watching every walkthrough, using every cheat etc...you're missing out on actually enjoying the game...a game shouldn't feel like homework...if the game is too hard then move on to another game you find more suited to your style of play

HAHA no way could he do it even if he's a Multimillion dollars professional gamer he dies several times in the 1st 2nd area.

Managed to kill the first "real" boss, the Butterfly Lady at last. Thus far it feels like there are lots of attrition-based battles. In DS you could play in such a way that most bosses died in 10 hits (or less) and in under a minute with the right weapon. So far I'm not seeing that with Sekiro. It's kinda closer to playing as a DEX based character, while I tend to always go big or go home.

during my first playthrough I went in a different direction and Gyoubu was my first real boss fight...I think it's actually easier to face him first versus Butterfly so even during my 2nd run I kept that same order

I ended up just fighting him, too. He wasn't too hard. Mainly because you can take a lot of his hits and he's fairly easy to hit himself. He's also far easier to parry. Butterfly was a rough fight, but I took Gyoubu out after only a couple tries. Thus far my prosthetic weapons feel a lot like the gun in Bloodborne...aka, I'm only using them sparingly. For such supposedly defining features, it's almost like they don't want you to use them all that much. I kinda wish their had an unlimited number of uses per life/rest. It seems like one more needless thing to worry about in both games.
Small gripe, though. I think the game's great. The character doesn't match my playstyle, but it isn't keeping me from enjoying things.

I only used the prosthetics for certain fights (Demon of Hatred's last stage was less of an annoyance with it)...I didn't even get the Firecracker one until way past the mid-point but that seems like it would make a bunch of fights easier...you can buy it from the vendor very early in the game

Yeah, I just got that one. Seems you can buy that one pretty early or from a second merchant right after Gyoubu. I've never actually used them, though. Guess I should try them out at the very least.
I started the castle area last night and am having a blast there. Basically like most From games, I enjoy the large areas you can explore and despise being bottlenecked by boss fights.

Jim Sterling's take on an "easy mode" for Sekiro:

My opinion is that From very, very carefully and thoughtfully designs and balances its games. In my opinion, beyond the beautiful level design, intriguing (though obtuse) lore and setting, and addicting exploration + combat Metroidvania gameplay, it really comes down to its finely tuned balance. My point is that a second modes takes development resources that might impede on that vision.

IMO, it probably comes down to sales. If their titles are selling well as-is, they probably don't need to change anything. If they're truly so hard that people can't play them, they won't buy the next game in line. So far that hasn't happened. There have been countless bundles, re-packages, and remasters for the DS games that still sell.
If they can get away with selling their vision as-is, then they might as well do it.

Agree but there is no reason for people to freak out about mods that add easy mode or ultrawide support either!

As for not buying the next game that has happened. The thing is though these games aren't that expensive (compared to AAA titles) to make and really only target a core audience. They can afford to only cater to one group until their cost to make the game goes up, if it goes AAA especially in graphics then it has to cater to the least common demonitator.

They've been "getting away with it" for 10 years. One exclusive, which I know Sony paid them a hefty sum up front to keep it exclusive, which in itself probably funded the next title. And despite it being exclusive, it was clearly not meddled with by those funding it.

The formula must still be working, because 2 million units sold within a month since Sekiro launched? Activision must be pleased with this investment.

One thing FromSoft is not hurting for is lack of funding nor demand. Any publisher would take a chance with them right now. They're the golden child. These titles sell, period. The cash they are raking in might not be Fortnite levels of cash, but it's enough to keep them afloat an then some.

Haters gonna hate. Let 'em hate all they want.

I'm finding my 2nd playthrough to be much easier (I beat the bull and the guy on the horse in 1 try...Chained Ogre took me twice because of his BS grab range)...as with all From Software games the difficulty is exaggerated...once you learn the mechanics in Sekiro it might end up being one of the easiest From games

10 years is rather naive they have been around for a LONG ass time, mid 80's and the Souls series isn't even their most popular or claim to fame. They are behind Kings Field and are mostly known for the Armored Core series and other Mecha games. They've also worked on Monster Hunter games. They've always sort of done their own thing.

Also the "Souls" series games have two exclusives. Demon's Souls was the original and was slated to be Japan only, and only after wild success and many people playing through it in Japanese in NA and the EU did the entire concept even get ported to the west. It wasn't meant to be a paid exclusive either, just their target Japanese audience was on the PS3. Demon's Souls is still one of the better of the games and worth running through.

That's been my experience in all of the Souls games. You know the mechanics better, you understand the right approach to fights, and you know where to go to maximize your gear earlier.

I'm not super far, but thus far I feel like Sekiro is no harder than the shipping versions of Dark Souls 2 or 3. The bosses are challenging, but most everything else is easy enough. I still think 1 is probably the toughest.

the mini-bosses and some of the 'regular' enemies are definitely the toughest of any of the Souls/Bloodborne games...there are some tough enemies ahead

I agree with this, I didn't beat the game yet (I didn't have time to play the last 3 weeks). But there are some parts where the regular enemies and mini-bosses are harder than the trash in Souls, but so far from my experience the bosses are no harder than any Souls boss.

I think people who are having trouble in Sekiro might have hid behind a shield too much in Souls games. People also gotta remember it will take some time to completely learn the mechanics of Sekiro, after that it is not that difficult. So far no boss has taken me more than 3-4 attempts. I hear the end is brutal, but I'll see when I get there. There are 2 mini bosses that gave me way more trouble than any boss in the game so far.

By exclusive, I meant "paid exclusive". Demon's Souls was truly a one-off. It's success was not expected.

So far my toughest adjustment has been to stop trying to dodge so damn much. I habitually try to circle strafe and dodge everything instead of counter or block. Bloodborne conditioned me to be comfortable with no defense, so that has stuck with me. In Dark Souls I usually only use my shield as a light tap after a dodge. Basically a failsafe if my dodge wasn't good.
While it works wonders vs. a lot of enemies, they very clearly want you to parry and block against many foes.

I'm in the middle of my 2nd playthrough (trying to get all 4 endings)...game is so much easier...I think the difficulty is definitely overblown...once you learn the mechanics and enemy move-sets the game is not that hard...I'm beating all the mini-bosses, bosses and regular enemies pretty easily...the real test will come towards the end when those ninja enemies invade...overall I think Bloodborne and DS1 were better overall games but Sekiro is still a great game

Pretty sure I'm near the end of the game..to keep it as spoiler free as possible I'm doing Emma's quest line fighting the boss at the end of the 2nd visit to HIrata Estates, he definately the first boss to give me major trouble currently did about 15 attempts so far.

Will be doing NG+ and probably another fresh playthrough after that. Sekiro is my favorite FS game in some aspects.

you should do a backup save before the first Owl fight so you can do all 4 endings with 1 save-file...3 endings you can get with the same save and the 4th requires a different ending path

Well too late for that. But I'll be doing them anyways. ;)

I finished the game, took 49 hours. Spent 6 hours looking for Emma at one point, thought my game was bugged. But after I found her I remembered that's where she said she would be, so it was a memory issue on my part.

Anyone know if you can rush the Demon Bell through headless area at the start of the game? Might do hard mode full playthrough next and NG+ after that instead of continuing to NG+ now, still undecided.

you mean enter the Senpou Temple area through the Ashina Outskirts shortcut?...I have no idea but it's something I would be interested in knowing as well...my guess is that it would be locked from the Ashina side and needs to be unlocked from the Senpou side first...same way that the Ashina Castle shortcut wall from Dilapidated Temple does not work until you unlock it first from the Castle side

The shortcut doesn't appear in the Headless room until after you've gone through the tunnel from Demon Bell first. There's simply a wall there. Well, unless there's a glitch or hack that let's you push right past the wall.

Hopefully the patch will alleviate some fixable, but janky issues with HDR and gamepads.

The game now backs up your save games for you. There's a .bak copy of your savegames that seems to be created automatically.

Gamepads not working automatically = fixed. HDR still requires an alt+tab to correctly enable for some reason. It also seems impossible to permanently disable if your device supports it. Every time I turn it off it comes back on the next time I restart the game.

Gameplay-wise, I only noticed that some of the prosthetic use fewer resources.

The Blazing Bull was a breeze for me. Killed it on the first try and only got hit once. It's basically like a weak Dark Souls boss where you just want to keep your distance, dodge, and hit on recovery. Shurikens did a bunch of chip damage, too.

Right now I pretty much have to kill Genichiro Ashina. I've gone as far as possible in every direction and it seems like there's no place left to go that doesn't involve a locked door or something that needs to be triggered. I got pretty close to killing him on my first try and had him at 1/2 health in phase 3. Unfortunately I've been less patient and less successful in my subsequent attempts. That's a battle of attrition, which I kinda hate. I miss being able to kill Dark Souls bosses in < 10 hits instead of whittling enemy stamina meters down.

Yep, Blazing Bull is a gimmick boss. You literally just run around the damn place swinging at his ass. When you first encounter him, you can't help but notice that he's literally got flaming horns. Common sense tells you that you should avoid that part of his body.

Much like Wolnir in DS3, the Bull is a boring boss. The running around gets old. Now I just pray his AI glitches and he gets stuck in a corner so I can just get the fight over with.

He's not quite Bed of Chaos terrible boss design, but he's at the bottom along with Wolnir and Covetous Demon.

the Bull is a great boss in terms of visuals...design wise I thought it was fine...you can either run around and chase him or you can actually beat him quicker by deflecting his horn shots and getting his posture down...pretty much every boss can be beaten by deflects

I'm at the end of my 2nd full playthrough...did a lot of side quests I missed the first time such as the Doujon one in Abandoned Dungeon and the merchant in Ashina Outskirts...I'm also doing the Purification ending this time...Hirata Estates Part 2 is actually tougher the 2nd time around...I was planning to do the Purification ending in NG and the Shura ending on NG+ but I realized that you can't get all the achievements this way as the Shura ending doesn't give you enough Lapis Lazuli

I never thought Blazing Bull was a roadblock, I think I killed him first try. He was the first enemy that I noticed it was playing Capra Demon music, it was epic. I know it plays on the Chained Ogre as well, but I was so focused on killing him that I didn't pay attention to the music.

I'll have to test the High Monk changes, I used that skill quite a bit so I should immediately be able to tell the difference if it was anything drastic. High Monk and Double Ichimonji were 2 skills I used like crazy in my first playthrough. Gonna try using other skills my 2nd playthrough for sure though.
