So i have G-Skill trident Z ( F4-3600C18D-16GTZRX ) in my computer ( 2 sets so 4 X 8 GB )
BUT ! the other 4 slots on my X399 Aorus extreme i would like to populate with the royal types from G skill

The silver ones appear to be the same or at least they have the same timings, the gold ones have even faster timings but as i understand it they should just fall back to the slower timing of the other ones in the system.

I am planning on getting the silver model as i see no need to buy faster ram if it fallback to something slower anyway, i have not looked into if feeding a little more voltage to my current ram will allow them to tun the faster timings of the Gold models, if thats the case i might go for gold.

I have never tried to mix ram up before, but as far as my geekiness go i think it should work just fine,,, just seeking a little reassurance from other geeks.

i dont encourage it but if you just want 3600 stock timings you should be ok with a little bios tweaking

Mixing RAM has rarely been a good idea. This is especially true with eight DIMMs. Your best bet to make it work is to manually set all the timings the same, even relaxing them all if you need to.

Yeah the times i have seen it done, have been in the old days and with no more than 4 sticks at the most and most often just 2 sticks, it is funny the new royal models are cheaper here, not by a whole lot but a little.
But as i recall it was not needed to roll back timings to slower ones than the slowest model of ram.
Maybe i should just carry on with the old styled models, and if anything mod the light spreaders / diffuses instead, anyways it will be a while before i am able to go RAM hopping again.
And then take this issue if / when my current models get phased out,,,, cuz i am dead set on getting to 64 GB as i have been on 32 GB for the past 2 computers.
