Monster Hunter: World

Arch Tempered Zorah is up...not a hard fight really, just gotta keep on it with the cannons, run Heavy Artillery and use binders when charging power. Goes down to the last few minutes but haven't failed yet with randoms.

Only need to run it 3-4 times to get the right number of tickets.

Got my tickets and made the armor over the weekend. I ran it 5 times and by the 5th time I was burned out because of the stress of not knowing if your teammates will restrain at the right time so I was try-harding the entire time doing most the work constantly just to ensure we can't fail, when this should actually be really laid back.

Looking forward to AT Xeno'jiiva this week. The high res texture pack also comes out tomorrow, I hope it's worth it.

I think I ran it ~10 times or so just for the hell of it and to help others, and never failed once. Got down to a minute or two left but always managed to finish. The big thing is, like you said, making sure you use the binders at the right time (the game basically tells you when, so it's not hard). I like to grab the binder at the top first, then head down to the ship and exhaust the cannonballs down there. By that time you've probably used it at least once, and you can grab the other binder down there. Then, when you're out of cannonballs down there, head back up and repeat. Never been without a binder when needed.

Definitely looking forward to the HD textures...I hope it runs okay. The game does get some slowdown for me sometimes when there's a lot going on.

Yeah, AT Xeno sounds tough but I think I'm ready, and I definitely want that gamma armor. Been watching some JinJinx/Tuna videos lately and I watched their video about AT Xeno.

The high resolution texture pack is better than I expected for sure, I was thinking it would potentially be as bad as something like Skyrim. You can tell they used a much higher resolution version of the game assets they shipped with. I played a bit this morning and it was an obvious difference in the Hub Area and Ancient Forest, didn't have time to go anywhere else yet though. I've only seen about 6-7GB of VRAM usage though if anyone was curious about that.

Yeah, I tested it last night too..

It is NOT a b.s. texture pack..!

Can also confirm it looks great, easily discern the difference on my 4K HDR screen Also seems to have non impact beyond VRAM usage, but thats not a definite FPS count, its just by feel on screen

Awesome. I haven't had a chance to try it yet, hopefully late tonight or tomorrow.

EDIT: One thing I've heard is that it increases load times substantially - have you guys experienced that?

Also, the game is $39.59 right now on Steam for the weekend. I think it goes without saying that I highly recommend it.

Is there a [H] PC group for this? I started over from PS4 to PC some time ago and have mostly being playing solo.

Not sure. I had started one on PS4 but there didn't seem to be a lot of interest.

I'd be down for starting/joining a squad.

I've been waiting for it to go on sale again. I think I might jump on this. I'd join in if a bunch of you were playing.

For me nothing noticeable maybe a 1-2sec longer on a 850Pro.

Got the HD texture pack installed. Definitely looks a lot sharper, though it does seem to be causing a bit of stutter or FPS drop in Astera for me. Haven't had a chance to play a hunt yet but I'll check that out later.

that's good to hear...the original game assets always looked a bit blurry to me...I was waiting for an official HD Texture Pack before buying...with a lot of games nowadays these Texture Packs barely make a difference in terms of visuals (Kingdom Come Deliverance, Fallout 4) so it's good to know that MH:W actually delivers

No stutter on my end. Have you checked VRAM usage on your setup? I'm playing at 4K and the highest I've seen VRAM at was 8gb used, but I wonder if you're hitting your VRAM limit and it is caching to system RAM. If that ends up being the case you could probably try turning down another setting that use VRAM and see if the stutter stops.

In-game it only says my VRAM usage is something like 6 GB out of 8. Really shouldn't be swapping to RAM.

So I played a bit tonight and the framerate, load times and smoothness all seemed fine. Not sure what was going on before.

HD textures look a lot better, I can notice the difference at 1440p pretty easily.

AT Xeno is kinda tough but not too bad. I haven't tried soloing but I beat it twice with randoms (failed once like 15 min into the quest once, that really sucked). Using the Taroth Claw Lance build from that video I posted earlier. With that set you don't have to worry about fire damage at all, though the tremors can still get you if you're not paying attention. Probably want to know how to power guard as well, but I've been playing Lance for awhile so I'm decent.

I didn't try AT Xeno yet, only got to play for about an 45mins last night. But set aside a lot of time this weekend. I did check out the fight and new moves and nothing looks substantially more difficult to deal with. I'll be running long sword for this fight with a Draken set and Zorah y chest for safety for sure though. I would be able to get max tremor resist but not sure if I can fit heat guard though if I want to keep affinity up. I usually play dual blades but Xeno is always hard to hit the tail, head and chest with DB.

Definitely get Heat Guard - there are hot spots everywhere with AT Xeno and the chip damage is really bad if you don't run it. With it, it's a total non-issue. Clearmind charm seems to be the best option for it.

Yea I figured I might want it but thought I could probably wing it with cool drink and fireproof mantle.

Not too hard, really. Around 16-17 minutes for the first try, no carts. Even forgot to use Demondrug and Armorskin and never one-shot me. Bring stuff to make extra Max Potions, though.

I played a bunch of this with the wife over the weekend. Where has this game been all my life? I'm having a blast.

Monster Hunter as a series has been around for a long time, but to be totally fair (as someone who has played since MH3U many hundreds of hours pre-World) the original games always felt pretty janky compared to World. They really brought it around to the mainstream with the QoL improvements, many of which people who have never played a MH title will even realize.

Also, the PC release schedule is going full steam, hopefully to bring parity between PC and console by AT Nerg, or at least Iceborne (we can hope?):

AT Kulve Taroth - April 18th

Witcher 3 collab quests - May 9th

Yeah, it's a series I've known about for years, but finally decided to take the plunge now that there was a PC offering. I'm glad I did. I'm sort of tempted to try Generations on the Switch but I know there are some differences that might make it tough to get used to after playing Worlds with it's QoL enhancements.

I noticed this as well, but until we get that official release date for Iceborne on Steam I can't believe just yet.

They already said steam is not releasing at same time.
I'm aware. I'm just hoping the decreased gap between PC and console content release timing is indicative that the release of Iceborne will shorter than the gap between the release of the original game on consoles vs PC.

I'm hoping for 2-3 months after console launch and not the 5-6 months like the base game.

Yeah, I think it's unlikely they'll do a simultaneous release of Iceborne (could happen as a surprise, though), but hoping for way less time than the gap for the original game.

I've been trying to do crown farming lately, out of just a general lack of focus in the game. Pretty tedious, I think I'll wait to farm the multi-monster even quests when they come up rather than waste my time with investigations that seem to not be yielding any results.

For those not familar, the event quests you want to do for gold crown large and small size monsters are:

Effluvial Opera (going on now until 4/11)
Rock N' Roll Recess (4/11 to 4/18)
Deep Green Blues (4/18 to 5/16)
Coral Waltz (probably sometime later, or with the next festival)

Also, if you're needing Ace Coins from the arena, the tempered Nergi Challenge quest going on right now gives you 2-5 per run in my experience, and it's really not that hard.

Arch Tempered Kulve Taroth is out on PC. Some recommended builds/strategy on the runs:

Tried a couple runs, team triple-carted twice. :( Someone else finished, but the rewards were pretty low. It does seem that you have a way better chance of getting R8 weapons now, which is nice.

how much more content is there that needs to be released before the PC has caught up to the console versions?
