According to a notable Reddit user, Ingebor, apparently in Germany AMD is outselling intel

My opinion: price is just too damned high on 9900k where it should be around the price of the 2700x to be competitive.

Apparently the 2700x is the most and more popular choice among Germans.

Wccftech article for the skinny: https://wccftech.com/amd-ryzen-and-intel-core-cpu-market-share-q1-2019/

Thread title is a bit click-baity since the sales are in reference to Germany only. I would be more interested in world wide sales comparisons, but its good to see AMD competitive again.

Wasn't there something a while back also that desktop shortages were going to exist on the Intel side of things... I'm sure that leaves a sour taste in consumers mouths...

But that said.. the R5 2600 should be contender for the "value of the year"

I think the 9900k should be priced higher than the 2700x because of its better performance per core but not at the level it is currently priced.

Honestly, I think this trend may continue as Intel's pricing has simply gotten out of hand in recent years. Intel had their top tier CPU at around $1,000 for several years and then it surged by an additional $500 from one generation to the next with little to offer over its predecessor. Then, the next generation after that, we've got processors at nearly $2,000. Intel also has a crap ton of parts that are simply beyond even the price point many enthusiasts are willing to pay. Couple that with the fact that performance improvements have been in 3% increments. People don't have much incentive to upgrade. Now that AMD is competitive, I think people are buying their CPU's even though they are a little slower in gaming. Your GPU matters a lot more and AMD is very competitive outside of gaming. AMD offers a lot more for your money. On the HEDT side, Intel charges you $1,000 just to get access to the platform's PCIe lanes. Then you have to spend even more money on a vROC license key.

Meanwhile, AMD gives you 16c/32t for that price and its X399 platform simply offers everything Intel's does (give or take a couple things) without the vROC BS. Prices are still high for X399 boards, but at least the platform is fully unlocked. My transition from Intel's 5960X to Threadripper was a lateral move gaming wise but I'd have paid a lot more to do pretty much the same thing going with any of Intel's HEDT offerings. I think the biggest problem is that Intel doesn't understand the Enthusiast / Gaming market. Its behavior regarding products and pricing reflects that.

This doesn't surprise me.

I know Kyle works at Intel now, so no ill will on him, but I am seriously hoping Intel eats some humble pie over the next few years. It could do them some good.
I hope [H] posters don't become reluctant to shit on Intel when they deserve it just because Kyle works there now, and I really hope Kyle doesn't come in PRing for them, because that would be especially depressing.

I don't think he will. He is very cognizant of this sites legacy and not wanting to hurt it.

I wouldn't be surprised if he drops some Intel promotional I formation every now and then, but I feel fairly certain he wants to preserve the fiercely independent history of HardOCP and the HardForums.

Germany and MindFactory (the only retailer this data is from), has for some time at least, always favored AMD, nothing wrong with that, just something to keep in mind and the fact this is the volume of a single retailer, not total sales from AMD/Intel. I also think MindFactory has had issues getting Intel stock as well, add to that MindFactory has a larger price delta on Intel chips vs AMD than what we see here in the states, which will have even more impact on people picking AMD, as such the already expensive 9900k after exchange rates, is $80+ more expensive than it is here state side, while AMD chips are only $30-40 more after exchange rates.

Now all of that together with AMD putting out some competitive chips as of late, it's not hard to believe. Add to that what others have pointed out with Intel pricing getting "out of hand", the market would take it and pay for it back then because it was really the only option, it's not anymore with solid CPUs with great value from AMD, and Intel seems to not understand this. So long as that pricing trend continues, AMD is only going to move even more CPUs.

I don't believe Kyle would do that either, but it is a niggling worry. I guess because I had a friend who was just a regular ol' guy—a former coal miner in fact—who became an insurance salesman after the local coal company went kaput. He went from dressing in t-shirts and cracking jokes to wearing business suits and constantly trying to sell everyone insurance . . . I mean, everyone, all the goddamn time. He became an intolerable 24/7 shill in the blink of an eye.

Kyle's job is to throw Intel Tech parties:
So, for one, not an easy thing to do well, and two, of course he will be telling you how great the products are.
There is no compromise of integrity if you defend/ promote the company you work for, its called being a professional... they pay you for that.

apparently in Germany AMD is outselling AMD

And that's not easy to do ;)

Regarding Kyle, Intel and folks here being apprehensive about speaking their mind about Intel now that Kyle works for Intel ...

gird up your loins and speak your mind otherwise [H]ard|Forum will become just another Tech news stop

I have no idea as I do not live there but if it is hard to do then Kudos to AMD. Competition is great and we all win from market competition and so does the push for innovation, not just re-invention.

With all the talk between AMD and Intel about 3d stacking, it would appear that processors are about to get exceptionally powerful unlike anything we have ever seen to this date.

AMD mentioned that they envision stacking like a GB of L3 cache directly on top of the CPU processor cores. like a sandwhich :

|[===CACHE @ 1GByte===) <---Right smack on top of the cores
|(Core - Core- Core -Core -uncore- Core core core) etc....

As long as he doesn't try to censor posts that run contrary to his marketing and he doesn't lie/obfuscate for Intel, I don't see anything wrong w/him promoting Intel. If I worked for intel/nvidia i'd promote them all day long. However, I think his day job at Intel is gonna keep him pretty busy so he prob won't have much time for the forums unless they push out a new product and he's directed to go advertise it.

I live in Germany. Electronics are so damn expensive here. And the used market suuuucks. It’s not that consumers are picking AMD over intel it’s just that in absolute terms Intel is just so expensive relative to AMD that people don’t bother.

Lol, look at Hungary, prices are even more expensive than in Germany due to our genereous 27% VAT. And the average monthly net income is something like €600. Now that's expensive.

This forum is still for it's members and contributors and I do not see that changing.

The only way to better ourselves is to listen to critcism and take it to heart where it is appropriate.

My job at Intel is to facilitate communication with the community, not to shape it.

There already is an unspoken agreement from now on anytime Intel does something wrong or bad we get to blame Kyle.

Wow I need a break too.

I did literally type AMD is outselling AMD

Fixed that lmao

Any gain in AMD sales is a good thing.
Fine it may be one market, but every little helps!

It certainly is. Although, I disagree with how Intel's responded to them, it was good to see AMD shake Intel off its apathetic ass. Intel needed a wake up call.

And the German response to this news about AMD?

Sounds like nVidia GPUs. Remember when the 999 dollar titan was wild. Now we have the 2080ti. :D
