$749 for a motherboard ?!!??!

It certainly looks nice... But geeze! They advertise all those options that might not even be used to make the sell. If I had more money to burn well hell, I'd just buy it for fun and buy even more stuff just to be able to implement all of those features.

So who actually buys this board? (Some people must buy this board, or else ASUS would not have created this sort of product.) Who?

It should be $999 so it can match nvidia's price hikes. People who want the best board money can buy, backed up by the worst customer support known to man.

It's a HEDT board, some CPUs to fit the board are 4x that price. The I spent a bit on my Threadripper board when it was new, around $500, and that was the cheaper option.

Don't forget, you'll need to buy a vROC key if you want to unlock all of its storage features.

That feels like the damn BMC and Intel storage modules so I can ipmi and raid... Disgusting.

I don't like the PCI-e slot spacing on that board, so it would be a non-starter. They went with an odd layout on the newer X399 Zenith too. Glad I picked up the older Zenith Extreme.

If X499 comes out this year with 4.0, its going to be that much more embarrassing for intel HEDT.

$350 X399 right now gets you 2x16 2x8 3x4 m.2, onboard 10Gbe, 8 dimms, ECC, beefy VRMs etc. Then if they double the PCIe bandwidth...lol.

Who buys? LOL, not me! I wouldn't have any need for it. Then again I don't have a need for what I currently have! I buy what I want though if I like the price.

I found that out when I got an Intel S2600COE board and half of my SATA ports didn't work. I thought I got a bum board.

I bought one. I couldn't find a regular Rampage VI so I bought this one. I'm done with SLI so PCIE spacing wasn't a concern. I don't run RAID so vROC wasn't a concern. It was expensive, but then I look at the other things in the build that cost more - the RAM kit cost more, the processor cost more, video card cost more, the water cooling cost more, storage cost more. In the grand scheme of things, the cost of this mobo over others in the class was not all that significant and it runs very nicely.

omg, it's too much. I saw cheaper and better models on https://www.bestadvisers.co.uk/gaming-motherboards. MSI Z370-A PRO Intel has almost the same characteristics and has lower in 10 times!

You are comparing apples and turnips. The motherboards in your link are all examples of damn near every chipset and socket aside from X299 and LGA2066. You clearly don't understand the purpose of HEDT hardware or you wouldn't have made such a ridiculous comment. An HEDT motherboard can be used to play games, but that's not its only purpose. The boards you referenced generally don't have the feature set or the capabilities of the motherboard in question. None of the motherboards in your link have nearly as many PCIe lanes, can support CPUs with half as many cores, nor run nearly as much RAM. You have less memory bandwidth and the list goes on.

Most annoying thing is when I want this board in 10 years I'll have to pay 200 bucks
No, the most annoying thing is the integrated VRM heatsink fan. Friends don't let friends buy motherboards with tiny fans.

Unfortunately, that's any decent X399 board right now. If you want the VRM's not to slag on the board with a 2990WX, that's what you need.

I run mine with a 7980XE all cores @ 4.6GHz - fans have never come on. The heatsink on the VRM is quite a bit larger than the original Rampage VI, plus I have 140mm fans on the bottom of a 420 rad in p/p that blows across the face of the VRM heatsink. Highest VRM temp I have ever recorded was 55C.

In the car world they say theres an butt for every seat, I assume the same applies here. I`d assume if your budget allows, a price tag is nothing

As has been pointed out earlier, if you are throwing a $1,800 CPU in it and a Titan RTX or something, it's really just pocket change compared to those things.

at those price points, i'd rather pick up supermicro's server dual cpu motherboards - as it would give me far greater memory capacity, bigger amount of threads, and more pci-e lanes. Still if there are people with money to spend, they should have options for buying that - as this specifically addresses to those whom would want to overclock 3k intel cpu that uses over 350ish watts at stock.

But, But ASUS ROG & RGB!!!111

Some poor fool or fools will pay for it. And that makes me laugh.

It isn't just a matter of it being an ROG board or having RGB LED lighting. There are lots of reasons why that motherboard is so expensive.

I’d like a little display panel, kinda neat. Not sure how much more I’d pay, but glance monitoring without needing an OSD would be neat. Kinda like I used to have on my old logitech G15. I like little readouts not cluttering the screen.

Ultra high end ROG boards often have little things like that. There are specialized IC's and actual hardware involved to make those things work. The costs of having things like that add up quickly.

Like, I want a powerful system as much as the next guy. Maybe even more. :ROFLMAO:

But personally, no offense intended to anyone on this esteemed board, I see no value in a system case with a window. I care ZERO-MINUS about RGB lighting anywhere in my rig. If/when/ever I do watercooling, it will be plain-jane tubing, no colored dyes, etc., etc. So I don't want to pay bupkis for any of that.

In all seriousness, I get it. Sometimes less is more and these boards, while amazing are expensive because they have tons of fluff features on them which are not necessarily things you will use or care about on a day to day basis.

I have the RGB on all my boards turned off. The case this mobo is in does have a window on the side, but it's a 900D and that's just the way it came, none of my other cases have windows. I run no color in my plain jane hard tube. This case sits under a desk where it's pretty difficult to see into it, anyway.

Every $100 mobo out there now days has RGB lighting, when you get into the HEDT territory this mobo was designed for, you start looking at design considerations like VRM/VRM cooling - not RGB. This mobo actually has less RGB "bling" on it than the regular RVIE it replaced.

I got the 7980XE in a bundle deal with a Gigabyte X299 Gaming 7 Pro, that thing had way more RGB than the Omega - but its VRM section wasn't really up to the task. It gets really hot with just a 7920X @ 4.8, no way it was going to get the job done with an OCd 7980XE. Even the regular RVIE didn't have sufficient VRM capacity/cooling to keep the temps down so lots of guys ended up having to water cool that section, too. I gave the Gigbyte board w/7920X away, and that was Gigabyte's TOL X299 refresh board with upgraded VRM section and it was still not up to the task of an OCd 7980XE.

Different video card in it today (was Titan Xp here w/EK block, now 2080Ti w/Heatkiller IV block), but it's running 64GB of RAM @3600, got the M2 expansion card in it now so 4 970 Pro drives onboard now. HWLabs GTX 480 in P/P and a GTX 240 in P/P in the bottom that aren't visible. GTX 420 and 240 GTX above the midplate. 7980XE @ 4.6. I've built a few HEDT rigs, this is by far the smoothest running, easiest to get up to speed, most painfree of them all. Been running since February, and I have never had a single BSOD. None. I probably had 1000 reboots on my 5960X/X99 RVE just trying to get the RAM running at rated speed - never made it. The RAM in this rig is rated at 3600, and it's been running 3600 all along (no XMP).

So call me an idiot, laugh at me for buying the mobo - I don't care. I'm way past the point of giving ruminations from anonymous posters on message boards much consideration, just wanted to point out the RGB was on the absolute bottom of the list of features I look for in ANY mobo, but especially a mobo designed for a HEDT application.

Kinda defensive for having a rig like that.

I have an MSI x399 Pro Carbon with a 1950x sitting in a Corsair 570X, which is a side panel cranked up to 11. RGB and glass not for him? No sweat. There are other options...if you're willing to disable RGB. I'm betting HEDT isn't for him either - also fine.

Yeah, maybe. Wasn't really trying to single him out, the last bit was aimed towards others in the thread. I get that a lot. I never asked anybody for money to pay for any of my rigs, but some still act like they have some skin in the game.

And the Gigabyte X299/7920X rig I mentioned? Gave it to some gaming nephews, had the RGB turned up to 11 when they picked it up, they loved it. Full loop (their first watercooled rig), TitanXp, 3TB of M.2, stout rig. Had nearly $5K in that rig and gave it away, but paying $750 for a mobo is just too much for some here to fathom, after I pointed out that basically every other component except the case, PSU and BDR drive cost more than that mobo.

When you frequently have machines that run upwards of $5,000-$7,000 to build, $750 for a motherboard doesn't seem all that far out of line.

So, Uncle Dullard...I wish I had a third-gen Threadripper. Just putting that out there.

Sorry, only give AMD to stepchildren.

j/k Hope the next gen AMD chips hit it out of the park.
