Craigslist finds

Nope--wife would absolutely kill me! So I post it here hoping that someone else gets it. :D

OK,

So I don't remember if I posted about it but I recently purchased an Asus Sabertooth X79 Motherboard (worth $200) and an Xeon 2690V2 (worth $250) on craiglist for $285.

Good discount right?

Turns out the motherboard is DEAD! Seller used the CPU to hide bent pins.

I had to sell motherboar to Chinese friend for $40, he will repair it in a lab

Very disappointing!

The CPU has a scratch and no one wants it even at a discounted price :( (PS: Go to my F/s thread xoxox <3)

Yep, you'll get screwed everyone once in awhile.

I've been lucky enough to buy a shit ton from peeps over the years and not get the shaft, but you gotta be sure to inspect man.

Yeah, there's some shady people so you have to ask all the right questions and never assume anything is working correctly. I've gotten a bad lcd once and was furious. Now I bring a laptop and make sure I have power if something needs power to be checked out 100%.

As far as the stuff you can't sell--ebay it. I've learned that even broken not working things are worth unloading on there versus taking to recycling--there's people out there that need the parts!

I buy off here and local facebook groups. I don't think I've ever bought PC parts of craiglist, but why not? Assuming you can test everything.

I've sold computer parts on Craigslist. Takes a bit of faith on the buyer's end. It's not always practical to test them.

Lol an i7-860 system for $40. Makes me sad to think what mine is worth :p. Hope someo e picked that up though, its still a decent CPU if anything and may be able to flip the RAM ;-).

Just snagged an Alienware x51r2 with i7 4790 and 760ti for $75. It’s in excellent condition and clean internally. Replaced the 2tb spinner with a 128gb ssd I had laying around.

lol I just bought that new. Needed it for my Mac Pro. Great find.

But I did manage to buy two Apple Cinema 30" displays for $50 each on OfferUp.

2 Apple Cinema 30" displays for $50ea... That's a steal! (y) I remember when those launched, I wanted one for ever but I end up with an XHD 3000 (still have it, had to attach a HSF to the video board that was making all the probs for that monitor) :( but it was a good bit cheaper at the time.

I'm picking something up tomorrow, fingers crossed. Hint: It is 15 years old, but never used.
Gotta share what it is when you get it. (y)

I forgot about this thread. There was an i5-7xx system in the bay area that someone had loaded with 24GB of ram, one of which was 8GB, and they were asking $20--it didn't last long. :)

I just ran into this aged beauty--Poweredge 2550 3U server with 2x P3s 2GB of ecc sdram and even has 4 SCSI drives for just $15!

Here it is! It isn't new as was stated, but the owner didn't know what they were looking at. Apparently found it in a closet. I give you, an ecs elitegroup n2u400-a socket a motherboard!

Forgive my ignorance, but why is that special? ECS isn't exactly known for making high quality motherboards, although, credit where it's due, they've generally served me pretty well when I've had them, especially for what they cost.

It's not special, just rare these days. It also has the best socket a Northbridge available, nforce2 ultra 400. Socket A boards are a rare thing, I picked it up for nostalgia since this is of the era when I got into building computers.

Now all I need is some a purple pcb graphics card.

I had a N2U400-A in the first PC I built myself. Athlon XP 3200+ and 1GB of RAM baby.
nice! I haven't decided yet what to do with it. I might throw it on ebay so someone who actually collects stuff like this can have it, or I might pick up some parts to put a 2004 era build together and use it for VHS capture.

I found a guy selling a new 128gb iPhone XR for $400 (OBO). Pretty sure it was stolen, I passed on it.

And I almost went for a $500 listing for a less than 1 year old 15 inch MacBook Pro....

Also why are there no fans on the heatsink directly? lol

lol the fans on the GPU will be louder than 120mm fans on the CPU heatsink. Also, if passive, why mount a 120mm fan at the top of the case above the heatsink? It'll be better served mounting directly to the heatsink.

Gotta wait that bait...sometimes it puts you in the hood and you get jumped. I always google map the area and check it against a crime map. If it's sketch or the person seems to be, forget it...always another deal somewhere else. ;)

well that fan is also set as intake, and there is no rear exhaust fan. So the heat of the GPU and CPU are going to be fighting hard against that fan trying to bring cold air in from the top.

When I googled buying an iPhone on Craigslist the first thing that came up was some guy held at gunpoint. I was like nah.
