Chiu Chui-Cheng, deputy minister of Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council, told the Nikkei Asian Review on Thursday that Taiwan is likely to ban Baidu's popular iQiyi platform, and block Tencent's plan to bring its streaming service to the island later this year.

"We are concerned that streaming media services that have close ties with Beijing could have cultural and political influences in Taiwan... and even affect Taiwan's elections," Chiu said.

hat do you think, Are the concerns legitimate or is this just political posturing?

Maybe we should follow suit and ban the tencent owned epic store.

The world would do well to forgo adoption of anything Chinese -- even goods from Chinese companies. I know my phone is Chinese made (iPhone) but I trust the manufacturer to inspect it for backdoors and the like.

then we might as well just destroy 95% of all products in the world.. that argument is dumb. Taiwan on the other hand has a legitimate argument for their decision due to the on going political bs between them and china. that being said though if you want to prove why you're better than china as a government and country let your citizens decide, don't decide for them.

Widgets that are inert make no difference. IT hardware and software run by people’s republic of China should be avoided. F that regime

Let's assume you mean tech products. Taiwan, Japan both have big pieces of that pie. Global Foundries is in the US.

China does not make "95%" of the worlds' technology...

Isn't Tencent, in addition to being only 20% as cool as 50cent, also the biggest owner of Epic?

Lol, if US democracy is superior then we should have no problem with Russian or any foreign propaganda influencing our elections.

Well we will see what happen t our supply of goods if / when the poo hit the fan out there, i hope for the Chinese they have something much much larger than the 1989 Tiananmin square revolt.
The man on the floor are getting screwed over badly in China i think, not that this is uncommon elsewhere in general, but it could be so much better for the guys out there.
