Gaming Modem\Router

Looking for a new Gaming Modem\Router any suggestions please strong wifi is a plus also its for my dad while im Hardwired in to game. Tankies In advance id like to keep it under $150 Bucks
 
What do you currently have?
If you're looking to spend that much money, you might as well spend a little more and have a real deal pfsense firewall with a ubiquiti Unifi AP
 
How large of a home? "Gaming Router" is marketing rubbish and doesn't really tell you much about the equipment. Multiple stories?
 
so, are you looking for a DSL or cable modem, or just a router? You could go crazy overkill and get a cisco router and DSL modem card, they're pretty flexable when it comes to getting every bit of speed out of a DSL line!
 
Just got an ASUS ax88u. Both the WTFast and adaptive QoS seem to lag me in cs:go independently. Big spikes on wtfast, latency just goes from 40-100 randomly on adaptive qos. le sigh. at least the base CPU is 4 core and 1g ram for big upgrade from N66u

What are your speeds from your ISP? What is the issue you're trying to solve? You said for you and your dad to use internet at the same time. Is he streaming video? Torrenting, etc? What happens when you don't use adaptive QoS or the other settings?

FYI, you might as well return that gaming router and just get an edgerouter X. Then put your old wireless router in to AP mode

I did not mention my dad lol. i have 180/6 xfinity internet, docsis stats on my netgear CM600 look good. usually my kid will youtube/minecraft so I shouldnt really need to use QoS, i just wanted it there just in case someone downloads a big file or something.

Latency seems stable without the QoS or WTFast usually, but its funny because when i trace route to the OKC and ORD cs:go servers, i get 33-34ms. But I always show 45-65ms on net_graph in game.

Kind of just adding my experience because my "gaming" router doesnt seem to help much over a normal one.

Do you get the same numbers when you plug in directly to the DOCSIS modem? Make sure you take note of the time of day. Your connection is (most likely) dependent on congestion and how many other people in your area are doing things on the same service as you. It's common with cable internet.

I'd personally recommend getting away from that "gaming" router. If you want to run a "cheap" test, order an ubiquiti edgerouter X and swap it out with the existing router. See if you get different numbers. As I suggested before, you can keep your wireless router and turn it into an AP if it works out better. If not, return the edgerouter
