I just purchased an ultrawide 35' monitor with GSync capability, 3440 x 1440p, 100 MHz refresh rate. My computer has a 6700K and a MSI 1080. Would it be best to stick with my current video card and wait for ray tracing to become the norm in gaming or upgrade to a newer card?

I say keep it, 1080 is decent running at ultrawide 1440p unless you feel it is inadequate at the setting you want to run it. Of course future games will have more features but then so are better cards.

Stick with it til next gen, or until you want to drop stupid amounts on a 2080 Ti which is your only real substantial upgrade path.

Update your sick with your new specs! :p

Will do. It's been awhile since I last posted on the site.

Try it and see what you think.

Getting 100fps at that res on a GTX 1080, well, that's possible but maybe not on ultra settings.

If you are okay with slightly older games, or new games with settings tweaking, you should be okay.

Also, since it's G-Sync, you don't have to hit 100fps exactly, even in the 80 - 90fps range will get most of the benefit.

So you're probably fine, but if you do want a new card, the 2080 Ti would probably be your best bet.
