Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

these attacks are so tricky because you have almost zero time to react...I've been practicing with that dead guy over at the main area and am getting pretty good but it's still difficult in a fast paced fight...I always end up blocking no matter what and if I see him doing the sweep move I jump up right away and can still catch him in a guard break...at least they give you generous parry times

Sekiro is going to separate the true Souls vets and the fake ones who always end up using summoning help for all the hard Souls fights...you really need to be good to beat this game

Looks OK. Like all their games the scene as a whole looks great, but if you look close there is lots of blur and low res texturing. It mostly just has a smart color palette choice, and general theme.

This is a hard game. Quality is pretty good. English voicing sucks though. Switch language with english subtitles.

The problem I see with this game you can't level up like in previous games.
This game is different. YOU level up instead of your character. But my goodness what a hazing it is. I'm questioning whether I can dedicate the time.

Think I'm going to give this a shot. The setting, aesthetic, and original language voice option are right up my alley. I wonder how it will play out in a technical sense, but since we'r already seeing mods and whatnot I gather that Kaldaien or someone will continue the trend. I'm eager to check out Proton support (and of course, prefer if it had a Linux native client too).

One thing that seems a bit odd to me is the strict control of pricing - for a game like this reputable vendors (ie GMG) typically would have a discount of at least 15% and maybe up to around 25% pre-launch, but this title seems capped around 8% off which is unusually limited. Now, I am lucky in that I can get it for 10% off thanks to my Humble Monthly subscription, but usually that's not the "best" option in terms of outright discount. I am thinking that Activision's publishing meddling is involved here, especially given that Humble buyers don't get an additional 5% store credit cash back like we do for most games; something I've only seen before with a few titles, such as Destiny 2. Frustrating, but I'm at least happy it is at least released via Steam...

This game is awesome. It's like ninja gaiden, punch out, and thief had a threesome and this was the love child.

Even for SoulsBorne fans, Sekiro is not messing about

From Software's Sekiro offers faster and more fluid combat and movement than the Souls games, but it's every bit as brutally difficult...Maybe it's too difficult

Despite its difficulty, Sekiro has proved a monster hit on Steam and Twitch...with over 108,000 peak concurrent players on launch day, Sekiro is the biggest new game launch on Steam this year, and the third biggest Steam launch of a Japanese game ever, behind Monster Hunter World and Dark Souls 3...on Twitch, more people are watching Sekiro than Fortnite right now...

Played for a few hours, and no doubt this game's difficulty is off the charts, even for a From software game. Some of the mini-bosses scattered around the world feel more difficult than some Soulsborne bosses. I'd wager less than 10% of the people who buy this game will complete it. Even seen some streamers rage quit a couple times. I always thought that there was no need for a difficulty slider in Soulsborne games, but this game is getting me to think differently about that, as I love everything else about it.

You can modify the game's FoV (and some other tweaks like ultra wide screen support), instructions are in the wsgf thread (link).

Default, and +40% FoV:

IMO it needs a difficulty option setting. It's enjoyable, but just way too hard right now IMO. I've already given up, and as much as I like the game, i'd likely return it if I wasn't over the 2 hour limit.

I was happy I beat my first boss- Chained Ogre...then I find out he's not even a real boss, he's just a mini-boss...this game is no joke in terms of difficulty...even the simple enemies can kill you if you're not careful...hardest beginning areas of any Souls/Bloodborne game...and since there's no leveling up everyone is pretty much playing the same way

I love it so far I beat the actual first boss without much difficulty.

Sekiro should have implemented Bloodborne's 'regain health by attacking the enemy' mechanic...the gameplay seems perfect for that...as is you need to always attack to lower posture but you also need to back away a lot and moving away really makes the game much harder...this is the ultimate risk/reward game

Something that helped me, I was dodging back/side a lot but often a jump back/side is called for.

I have a feeling this game is just going to make my blood pressure go up. When I start it next week I took some vacation 10 days so I can play catchup.

Needs more grappling points, 90 % of my deaths, maybe 95%, are falling off ledges while exploring:/

One thing that needs to be fixed is the camera. It really sucks at times. For some reason it’ll stay snapped to certain angles and you can’t see where enemies are at. Very frustrating.

I'm finding the bosses to be easier then the mini-bosses...I beat the Chained Ogre and that other boss on the horse fairly easily...I'm not looking at any guides and am playing blind my first playthrough...this is a masterpiece of a game...I said that From Software was the best developer out now in another thread and people were acting like I was crazy...

also, for all of the "Souls fans need to realize this isnt a souls game" people, lol

this is basically bloodborne chikage build with a different looking offhand weapon, even the parrying/counter mechanic is the same

I really feel this game is very similar to bloodborne, I was able to pick it up and play rather easily thanks to having very similar gameplay mechanics

Definitely closer to bloodborne than dark souls but all that from software goodness is baked in. Having alot of fun with it. Seems smooth on PS4 pro almost want to play it on PC at 4k but I have a lowly gtx780 lol. First new game I've bought since ds3 I think.

I can't say enough good things about this game...the level design is simply stunning...Miyazaki has outdid himself...the RPG type of aspects are also very well done...so much to do and learn in this game...the game is difficult but the sum of everything put together is just simply jawdropping...is it too early to declare this From Software's best game?...I think I've beaten around 4 bosses and they've all taken me more then 7 tries...the color in this is also amazing...I can imagine how good this looks in HDR...

Even less reputable sellers like G2A and CDkeys seem unable to offer the game at much less than the RRP, which really undermines their attractiveness when you can buy from an authorised source for the same price. Physical retail copies also seem to be non-existent in my region despite being extensively advertised in brick and mortar stores in the lead up to release.

There is something like that in the skill tree called breath of life. It allows you to gain health on a deathblow.

Finally beat the big dumbass drunk fuck. Easiest way to do it is to cheese him. You go around the back left through a building, and slowly just kill all the mobs. Eventually just the drunk guy will be left, and because he's moved forward you can actually get a free stealth hit on him which leaves only the final deathblow. Then you go talk to the stupid NPC while lardass is chasing you, and just start smacking the shit out of lardass while he's focused on the NPC.

IMO, not a fan of winning via this method, but i'd have to spend the next year trying to beat him otherwise.

Don't even get me started with the stupid Ninja guarding the treasure in that same level.
