So here's what I'd like to do:

I bought a laptop that came with one NVMe drive and an empty slot for an SSD or HDD. I bought it used to I can't just do a clean install of Windows. I'd like to replace the 256GB NVMe with a 1TB NVMe.

How do I go about doing it?

Here's what I'm thinking:

Buy 1 SSD and 1 NVME.

Install the SSD and then clone the NVMe that's in the laptop into the SSD.

Then TAKE out the stock NVMe and install the 1 TB NVMe. THEN clone the new NVMe with the SSD. Then reformat the SSD so it's empty.

Does that sound about right?

Why not just clone to the 1TB NVMe and then extend the drive?

ok two questions:

1) How do I go about cloning straight from the 256GB NVMe to the 1TB NVMe?

2) What does "extend the drive" mean?

And why can’t you just do a clean install of windows?

If it’s Windows 10, the license is digital. Download the media creation tool and just re install. It’s that easy.

Furthermore if the laptop was used, I wouldn’t be using it without a fresh clean install by me.
