Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

Yay. Glad that they didn't miss the mark. Still waiting on my key to come over, although I probably won't touch this for a few weeks.

Copies are in the wild and there are players streaming this right now on twitch if anyone wants to check it out.

Does Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice improve over Dark Souls' performance issues?

every console version tested...

Drives me crazy seeing all the videos pop up on my feeds. Atleast I'm off tomorrow so will get to play from the beginning completely blind. Gonna just play some MHW tonight and tomorrow morning to keep me occupied until Sekiro comes out. Looking forward to it though.

downloading on my ps4 pro as we speak. finally a game worth playing and throwing money at.

If you're thinking of using CDKeys for this - I just got a "cannot be activated" message + a refund. Looks like it's straight retail for me this time.

is this the first time that's happened to you with cdkeys?...things like this are the reason why I don't trust grey market sites like that no matter how cheap they are selling a game for...outside of sites like Steam or Humble etc I do use GMG but they are backed by the publishers so no worries with them

EDIT: I thought it had unlocked but I jumped the gun a bit...the timer now says it'll unlock in 4 hours...so a midnight unlock confirmed (EST)

Nice glad it unlocks on steam at midnight. I am so stoked I might take a nap first .

This is a rare fumble for CDKeys. I got an insta-refund with an apology email for the "last minute region blah blah snafu'. They even gave me a 10% discount code. This is the first time CDKeys has let me down, period. I tossed in $7 more and ended up giving Green Man Gaming my money. Still ~$5 cheaper than Steam.

I'm thinking Bandai-Namco threw CDKeys a last-minute curveball by locking out the U.S. from the (early?) worldwide region key pool. If there were any doubts, CDKeys did the right thing by refunding the money to those in question. You don't want an angry mob at your door once the key is registered and the game refuses to launch.

Activision published Sekiro. Bandai-Namco wanted more Dark Souls games so FromSoftware so they went their separate ways.

FYI if anyone is using HDR you need to enable it in Windows as well otherwise you just get a washed out image.

Got it working. Looks like some kind of issue with multiple monitors. I have my 65" TV plugged in but off it does HDR but my monitor doesn't. As soon as I removed the cable I am getting 60FPS.

this game is amazing...I'm very early on practicing my moves against those easy early enemies...this is more Bloodborne then Souls as far as combat and movement...you pretty much always need to be switching between attacking and deflecting/parrying...if you play defensive and try and move away too much then the enemy will build their posture meter back up...you need to have an offensive mindset with Sekiro but unlike Bloodborne you don't gain back any health by constant attacks...the parry window is bigger but later enemies change things up making it tricky to get the timings down

When I get my Bookshelf speaker stands for my Edifier S350DBs I'll sink some more time into the game next week.

The game runs well- locked and stable 60fps at my resolution, 1440p, and the settings at "max" - just like DS3. Visually it's good.

It's early on, so these impressions are a bit incomplete: it's good, and I'm enjoying myself, but it's hard to fight two different types of muscle memory. First, I have to fight the urge to play this like a Team Ninja game and dive in and button mash to hell. Next, I have to fight the urge to play like a Souls game and dodge/kite enemies. You are much more capable but the parry/dodge timings are different (in a good way, you have to constantly be paying attention).

Fighting more than one enemy, just like DS2, just like DS2 Sins, just like DS3, is as clumsy as it always was. And I'm constantly fighting the grapple lock-on, as if it's always targeting slightly below the spot I'm trying to aim towards. The engine and style are at a bit of odds to what I sometimes want to do with the character- I think it's a me problem, and we'll see after many more hours in. It's still quite early.

I also got killed by a weird chicken/turkey thing. Sweet.

I like that the default voice setting is Japanese...adds to the immersion...are people here playing with Japanese + English subtitles?...I'll probably do English voice for a NG+ run
I'm playing with Japanse Voices, really liking it so far.

Yea so far performance has been good, maxed out settings at 4K and I don't think I've seen it drop off 60 yet.

Damn, missed out on getting a retail copy for $44. Ah well, my backlog is too huge anyway.

I've been taking my time, getting used to the controls and mechanics and figuring out how best to remap the keys...once again From Software absolutely nails the level design...the setting is also very nice...graphics are not Witcher 3 but it's the best looking From Software game ever...I'm playing at 1440p G-Sync everything maxed and it looks really nice

the stealth and grappling mechanics almost feel out of place in a From Software title but I like that they're trying new things

A fix for HDR not working is to alt+tab out of the program and then back in. I tried enabling it via Windows and it did nothing. Alt+tab and it correctly started sending an HDR signal.

If your gamepad isn't working, go into the game properties (within Steam) and force Steam input on. That shockingly works with lots of games and fixes issues if you have multiple pads, too.

The default keybinds are pretty awkward for a FromSoft game, I'll probably rebind it closer to Dark Souls keys. Been playing 2 hours at default binds though, still not getting used to it.

I feel like using KB/M on like 75% of games is awkward, yet I think I could make it work in the From games. The camera can be a serious burden at times and a mouse would at least help with that.
A pad in my left for movement and a mouse in my right could actually be pretty amazing. At least if the game allows it. That used to work fine back 5-10 years ago but most games seem to force toggle these days.

I rebind pretty much every game I play on PC...the main thing is I like using the arrow keys for movement (to the bottom left of NumPad)...so I then bind everything else around that...I played all the Souls games fine with kb/m after rebinding...with Sekiro changing the default keybind for 'deflecting' was huge...I think the default was 'mouse right click' which didn't feel right to me

And I thought I was the only one who was weird, I do this with every game. Games like Dead Space 1 & 2 and Dead Rising 1-3 I had to use something like GlovePIE since you couldn't rebind the arrow keys in those games.
