I beyond excited with this coming out next year. I rarely do pre-orders anymore (TD2 proved itself to me), so I'm hoping this one will be beyond worth the cash I could spend on it.

Edit: added info from Reddit

Edit 2: a very awesome GIF from GOG

Cautiously optimistic.

Loved the prior Vampire: Masquerade games. Hopefully it has the depth that the original Bloodlines had.

I'm interested and that's all I'm allowing myself to be. Developed by the folks that did Blacklight: Retribution, not sure if that means good or bad things for the game.

Excellent news! Played Bloodlines many times over. I'm going to wait for a bit more info to come out but I might have to preorder this one.
Paradox is one of the few companies I would consider doing a pre order from.

Avellone is good, but I'm more happy one of the original writers is also working on the game. Hope that will help them capture the feel of the last one.
Wouldn't mind seeing some of the characters from the first game.

Bit longer article with some more info.

I don't even give a flip about vampires and I loved that first game from...too long ago now. Cautiously optimistic.

I wonder how many people will reinstall the first one and mod it up for the billionth replay after seeing this? ;)

I believe I will be one of those who reinstalls it... the only hindrance to that is time. With everything else coming out the next couple months I doubt i'll have time but I am determined to play and beat this before Bloodlines 2 releases.

“For anybody who has played the first one,” said Mitsoda, “they’re going to start playing and immediately feel at home.”

I REALLY hope they understand what made the Source Engine game from the mid 2000s so good. For me the first thing that hits me is the feeling that you are in the world... a big part I think was the music... the atmosphere of the city... that feeling that there are shady things happening everywhere around you... that there's a world beneath the world we see with our own eyes. It's REALLY hard to capture this essence.... I don't want Bloodlines 2 to be an all-out action game. I don't want there to be parkour in the game that I saw in the trailer (likely won't be) briefly.

"She also said that they’re trying to broaden Bloodlines 2 from the more masculine power fantasy of the original, so that it appeals to way more people this time."

Um... what?

"But it all had that beautiful gloom I remember from the first Bloodlines. That weird, sexy melancholy. All the strange strangers stamping around the streets at night, but with a level of polish that Bloodlines didn’t have the first time around."

That sentence alone definitely increases my confidence in this sequel.

“It has been a key focus of us as a team and a studio that this is a true successor to Bloodlines,” said Kipling. “Brian’s contribution, the look and feel, the mood, the vibe, the topics. It is a true successor. It’s quite a mature game,” said Ellison. “It feels grown up to write it. It feels like a mature, complex game, and that’s pretty rare, to get to write that mature themed stuff. But really go in-depth to what makes people tick. It’s just really interesting. I think that they’ll enjoy exploring this world.”

And Mitsoda said: “This is the sequel you have been waiting for. It is going to be Bloodlines, as you remember it. But better.”

I seriously find it hard to contain my excitement. No game coming out this or next year will likely top my anticipation for this. There is too much good that can be said about the Bloodlines genre of game and I am really hoping that they will take their time with this and it will work. I am scared that the release is set for a year to less than a year from now because I have no idea how long they've been working on it thus far. They said they purchased the IP in 2015 so possibly shortly after that is when they started development of the game? In either case I am hoping this will lie up to our expectations from what we experienced with the first Bloodlines games.

Can't wait to make myself a purple-haired transtrender vampire with ADHD and DID while I endeavor to suck all the fascists dry and tear their heads off afterward.

V:tM has always had some foot in political machinations of one kind of another. The entire Masquarade is a big political game between the clans. Outside of that, as the editions and narrative of the Wold of Darkness evolved over time they stepped more and more into what White Wolf described as "political horror".

Never said it didn't. I'm just truly excited for more character options.

HELL YES!

This first was still to this day, my favorite vampire game.

I've been asking for this for years!

Take my money!

Already on pre-order a year ahead. lol! No thanks

I like a lot of what I'm seeing but I hope they don't change the Malks like it sounds they might have, they were my favorite clan and one of my favorite parts about the game overall.

I have a fair number of casual gamer friends that are pumped for this.
I played the original a little bit, but kept having technical issues with it way back when. I played the hell out of the first VTM game, Redemption though.
It felt like VTM was everywhere back in the early late 90's and early 2000's but the whole franchise kinda dried up. What happened?

Not sure what happened, but I will say you should definitely play the Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines now and download the community patch because it's been updated by the community over the years and it's very stable. I was in the same position as you... I bought the game at launch and there was a quest bug that prevented me from proceeding, but it's been fixed and many others have since been fixed since then.

I'm so offended that the game lets you choose pronouns. In fact I really feel like there should be a trigger warning on the preorder page. Preorder cancelled for Bloodlines 2 being an SJW feminazi crapfest.

I'll have to give it a go. Pretty sure it's still in my Steam library...although I might actually have that game on a disk somewhere :p

I blame Twilight.

On a more serious note, what happened is that vampires fell out of favor in popculture and were replaced by zombies.

Hey, at least jim will be happy, he wants games to make overt political statements. I however don't want a game to tell me what is the right side of actual present day politics. Unfortunately that is what the designers of this game hint at. And not because of the pronouns.

Oh no, a Youtuber made a video that doesn't fall into the now-commonplace alt right tropes about gamer outrage and PC politics. Get him!!!!

Except that isn’t what Jim was saying about Division 2. The game makes statements right in the opening yet Ubisoft doesn’t have the balls to stand behind anything. They are so afraid of making any kind of statement that is makes them come off as a pathetic and cowerdly. It’s a Tom Clancy game ffs, his books were political thrillers he made political statements in everything he wrote. Ubisoft is just too afraid to commit to what their games are actually saying. Remember the stupid “this game is made by people of all different races, creeds, ect” bs they used to put before their AC games in order to try and prevent anyone from possibly thinking they have an opinion on anything?

Definitely hoping to see Linux support! Paradox does have a good history in this regard and, if they know anything about the original VTMB, appealing to modders and Linux users is quite beneficial!

On the content/politically correct discussion above... I don't have any problem with the game allowing players to choose pronouns. Its a simple change that just adds options, harms nobody, and will likely be appealing to certain players. It shouldn't really be controversial.

The reason they have to do this is a typical corporate risk-management decision. We're in a time when if a game seems to take a stand of what could be considered a current issue, there will be people who object to its presence and/or the side in which it appears they chose. They'll likely do so so vehemently to suggest that it is worth boycotting or accuse the company of supporting X ideals.

Thus, the only "safe" move is to either A) Make the game attempt to completely avoid touching on any issues and/or supporting one view or another...which is nearly impossible while still making a good game. Sometimes a watered down version of this some sort of "both-sideisms" where either neither side is considered to be right should there be conflicting sides, or there are tropes taken from opposing real world ideologies smushed together to be "fair". B) Refuse to take or confirm any stance or intent thereof. Sure, some people will be annoyed at your manufactured corporate wimpiness, but that isn't going to motivate the kind of people to call for a boycott of your game versus it being deemed a "SJW game" or "Alt-right game". There's also the other level here about allowing controversy to fester on its own to act as free advertising.

For anyone who hasn't played the original VTM:Bloodlines, if you enjoy Deus Ex style titles it is a must play. However, much like a handful of other older titles (the first The Witcher and some will say Elder Scrolls, Fallout games), it is best experienced these days with mods. The "definitive" mod is Wesp's Unofficial Patch which is still being updated to this day which doesn't just fix the many, many bugs that were left in it, it allows the game to work on modern hardware without workarounds (ie better multicore and high resolution support), but adds and upgrades a ton of content including partially-finished stuff the devs intended but had to shelve in order to meet deadlines. It does a lot of other things as well and can be combined with a number of other mods, some of which add huge amounts of content and/or can be considered expansions/total conversions.

There was a WOD of MMO (mentioned in this thread as well) that had a lot of development done. I could see a fair amount of those assets making their way to this project to save on time/cost.
