I appreciate when developers are willing to make spiritual successors when the IP owners won't (or can't) move forward. I wish someone could do that with HL3. They could even keep using Source for all I care.

The L4D team is making Back 4 Blood. Closest thing we will see to a sequel.

Wil lthis include the co-op mode.
Daughter and I just completed L4d and L4D2 so that would be a nice add'on

Really miss more games with co-op

Yup. Zombie shooting with four player co-op and the original L4D development team.

I thought they might make Half-Life 3 with some huge VR revolutionary game play mechanic. But I don't think Valve has that kind of innovation and creativity anymore.

I think you're right but the tech behind VR,namely GPUs, is not there just yet so when it does we'll get some more hints on HL3. That being said, there are plenty of other great games to play till then :)

"not there just yet" is such a sad attitude to have... like waiting for that "perfect" wave instead of just making it happen yourself...

Valve, just finish the gawddamn story........ Game or not, wtf happens?

There will be a Half Life 3 one day...it probably won't be Valve made...but there a Half Life 3. It will be a glorious disaster im sure..after all we got Duke Nukem Forever!

I got stabbed pretty bad few hours ago, bleeding a bit for while and took some codeine now after the injections. So I'm bit drowsy typing this. But man was the game awesome, hard to believe valve isn't making 3rd one, or if they are not interested at least sell it off to someone?... Doesn't have to be too fancy, it can just continue off the way the game used to be and I'll be happy. I think my pain is easing up from me remember the good times when I was playing half-life (getting stabbed and continuing off like I'm in a video game is what it feels like).

Yeah but instead of being stabbed, you would of been hit with one of these...

Sadly, I think this is most likely. I think Valve is done making real games, but I wonder if they would ever sell the rights. Regardless of who makes Half-Life 3, I think it's going to be held up to insane levels of scrutiny. Whoever takes on that project needs to do so understanding that anything shy of perfection will result in every flaw being overblown and the game being ripped to shreds.

No matter what the game would fall into a problematic position. The things that lead to critical and commercial success today aren't the same things that led to that 15 years ago. Make a game faithful to the franchise and risk people calling it dated and no longer relevant. Make a game that feels modern and risk being called a sellout for abandoning the concepts that made the franchise what it is. It would take a very delicate touch to fall somewhere in between the two and keep people happy. It's almost a guaranteed shit show... and not at all surprising that Valve doens't want to deal with that.

The only way this will come to life is if Valve farms it out.

Sadly, it will never happen. Valve doesnt make games anymore and are just a service company/ keeping their current games up to date. The only way i could see it happening is when VR is more refined so they can push the vive. It will never live up to the expectations that people have for it now.

Valve has used games to push their own technology in the past. I think with Valve releasing their own VR headset it's possible we see HL3, but still not likely.
