Radeon VII Owner's Club!

Just finished uploading a Radeon VII 4K gameplay video.

Excellent video! You do great work.
The card looks good except in Dirt 2.0, especially in the second race with all the pop in with the trees and the sky looked terrible. Could be due to compression from Youtube though. But without a doubt the Radeon VII can game @ 4k.

Keep up the good work! :)

Thanks for watching CAD4466HK . Yeah the Radeon VII is great for 4K.

While not every game was maxed out, I used a mix of Ultra and High settings to get the best balance of performance and visuals.

Dirt 2.0 looked great while playing it. I think YouTube doesn't handle racing games very well with the compression. Here is a full quality image.

Yeah fast movement (a lot of completely different pixels frame to frame) takes a ton of bandwidth. It’s the hardest thing for streamers to optimize for too.

I get my mobo tomorrow.. I am excited.

Just out of curiosity - is anyone a member of the Radeon Vanguard (beta test) program? Just curious what's going on with that / driver?

Never heard of it, but driver releases can be rough as it is, not sure I want to try the beta versions.

I lapped Stock Heatstink, been running benchmarks.

First time lapping Heatstink

Washer Mod+Lapped Stock Heatstink.

My stock heatstink has good size gap from stock HSF.

Core 1800 / Mem 1050 / vcore 1.01

My max temps
Core temp 55c
Junction temp 90c

I did more research and spent more time reading up.

8291 TimeSpy stock. Seems about right. Only updated the bios so far. 60C/90C 70% fan.

8900 Timespy with 1900 on the core and 1200 on the memory. I think that’s it until I get my waterblock. 60/90C 100% fan. I guess I need new power tables too? To crank the power...

Unfortunately the game codes aren’t instantenous which sucks since I took today off sick. Oh well. I’ll go take a nap.

What power supply wattage is everyone running their VIIs on? Currently I've got mine in my main rig (which is 1300w) but I'm thinking I might want to move it into my SFF NCase rig (x370 2400G or 1700, haven't decided yet) which only has the Corsair SFX 600W - though this would be a pretty barebones rig (CPU+MOBO+1x m.2 NVME).

Such a nice look to that one. They are also working on the Eiswolf 240 AIO. I am waiting on that since I don't have an existing custom loop setup.
Yeah if I decide to go water, I'd likely want something like the Eiswolf. Years ago, I used to do custom loops, but I am too lazy now days.

I’d do it. I wouldn’t go crazy ocing it though.... a wall outlet watt meter is around $20 if you are really worried.

Yeah I would not worry with stock or light overclocking. Gaming with my 7820x @ 4.7Ghz, 32GB RAM and light R7 overclock I have not yet seen 500W peak in on my CorsairLink (power In) graphs.

My rig has a EVGA 1000W G+. I don't think it's exactly needed for Radeon VII, but I was running Vega 64 Crossfire at the time, so it seemed like a safe bet.

Jesus christ, AMD is so much easier than nVidia to mod. All your do is download one of those power table mods and double click it. Let it update your registry, restart, and in wattman you can adjust power/voltage/Mhz to your heart’s desire.

I ended up at 2050Mhz pulling 400watts and throttling... didn’t bother dialing in voltage much. Will play more when I get my waterblock.

In my case, it is that and I already have a CoolerMaster AIO for my CPU. I don't want to have to rework everything for this build. Maybe when I switch cases in the future.

Awesome! Unleash tha Beast!

Wow, the Radeon VII mines around twice as fast as my 1080tis.

Well they have a ton of compute power. Also Crytek released a demo video of Ray Tracing on a Vega 56 that looked pretty good, sadly it lack any real info tho. However if it works good on a 56 then you might have very good results with your VII.

Ray tracing is so far down my list of caring at the moment... I think it was a little premature.

I'm definitely seriously considering watercooling, seems like I can unleash more cpu and gpu power,

Seems like big investment upfront then it's just change water blocks

Hey guys,

I know there will not be a ton of us, but I figured I we should have our own thread vs the RX VEGA owner's club. It will make it easier to share OC/undervolt settings and such. I am getting a late start as I never opened my Sapphire card, and my AMD card just arrived yesterday thanks to the FedEx..I actually have another Sapphire coming, thanks to some crazy NE mess, but that card is going to be sold here on [H] or ebay....

Anyway, here are my twins for now. I am going to due a 24hr burn in before I tear the HSF off and WC the AMD card. I have an Alphacool universal GPU/HBM block for now and some quality copper heatsinks if the koolance VRM block I have does not work properly.

Let's get the party started!

I do not see much benefit from sharing undervolting data on this card. I have one. Each card is significantly different in overclocking ability. Remember these are Radeon Instinct rejects that were instead used for gaming. So they disabled 4 computer units on the GPU. Rejected cards tend not to have the greatest overclocking ability. For every claim of a good overclock out there. I would venture that 5 times that number of cards do NOT overclock well some very little. I see people claiming 2000mhz over clocks. My card will not even do 1950 mhz. Also you may do that higher overclock and find instead of performance increasing, your performance actually decreases. Undervoltting helps with fan noise and temperatures, but has little positive effect on performance.

Did you update the bios to the latest version?

All of these are made by TUL which is essentially Power Color...I didn't order mine yet. It would be sitting somewhere in the corner. No time lately but, I will join you guys soon with a couple of these ...congrats on your purchases…:D

What do you think a VEGA 56 was? A completely different card then a 64? What about a new revision 1060 vs a 1080 (on team green?)...Chips with defective parts are always binned. Guess what? They often clock higher then the full chip. This has been true with every GCN uarch based card since the 7950/7950.

I have more experience tweaking the underlying VEGA srch the anyone here. I have tweaked over a dozen cards myself and helped tweak over 100 more. I am by no means an expert but I know a lot.

These cards are limited by their cooler, and you will find with water they do much better. As for "Max" clockspeed, that is never always going to be the defining point of performance. VEGA is memory bandwidth starved. These are the first cards that solve* that issue.

I got to 2000MHz and it mostly worked, but it wasn't stable over the long-term (would work for a few days at the time then crash in a game).

Also, I wasn't comfortable with the high voltage. I think with more tweaking I could have got it to work, but I toned it down a bit instead.

I'm at 1920MHz now, with an undervolt, and performance is still good. Maybe around the same as with 2000MHz or like 1 or 2 fps less.

Proof? Would be interested to know.

So how long did it take for you guys to get your free game codes? I got The Division 2 after two days. Still waiting on the rest...

I bought from BestBuy (only in stock at the time) and they didn't seem to be doing the code promo.

In any case, I have RE2 and DMC5 and I don't care about Division 2. But I guess I could have sold the codes, doesn't matter now.

Got my Division 2 code, still waiting on the others. I registered a week ago.

Anyone think that moving to the Radeon VII from Vega 64 (EK block) is worth it? Really like the setup now but now that water blocks are coming out its easy to drop one into my loop.

edit: cybereality thanks for the vid!

I got the promo via Vega 64, my codes each came on launch day. So it’s strange that you have not received RE2 and DMC5 yet.

have already redeemed re2 and dmc5. should be able to do the same.got these from steam on there release date.
