Marvel Uploads a New Avengers: Endgame Trailer

His hammer was destroyed in Ragnarok and then a new axe was forged in Infinity War.

Okay, just outed myself as only watching movies on TV, last time i was in a movie theater was to see the #2 star wars, as i recall i was 17 then.

Cannot wait for this movie.

Also, There will be time travel in this movie. why do I say that? Quantum World, and the fact that they have spy pictures of them doing shoots of the battle of New York (first avengers movie) for this movie

Captain Marvel was never a very interesting (or financially successful) character in the comics and has been retcon'd multiple times. We will see I guess. $$ talks and I suppose if Capt. Marvel (movie) makes a pile of money she will be part of the MCU going forward.
We'll see.

Word on the street from reviewers is that the Captain Marvel movie is set like 20 years PRIOR to this movie in the 1990s so it had virtually ZERO tie-in to end-game so you can fully enjoy End Game without watching Captain Marvel.

This movie itself has pretty bad reviews even on the 'Certified Fresh' reviews like the Rolling Stone saying "convoluted plotting and a retro style that flattens the usual Marvel fireworks" or Salon.com saying "The breakout character of "Captain Marvel" may wind up being an adorable cat named Goose, whose cuteness seems destined to launch thousands of social media posts."
According to reviewers (paid movie critics) is quite often a 2.5/4 with the text of the reviews making it sound closer to a '1.5 to 2' and audience scores closer to 6.1/10.

I'm not sure about other people but I tend not to pay to see 2.5/4 movies in theatres were the audience scores is around 60% of them liked the movie. Unless I know the director, actress or enjoyed previous movies in a series. None of these apply here.

Infinity Wars did 2.1 Billion in the Box Office and cost 316 million to make. Marvel 0.5 Billion first weekend with an estimated 0.07B on the second weekend and cost 154 million to make. So about a quarter the profit potentially at half the production cost. Still, a pretty good return to quadruple one's money (assuming not much was spent on advertising Captain Marvel).

if they bring Loki and Gamora back then it'll really be beyond dumb...Thanos killed them pre-snap so it'll truly be a shark jumping moment for me...what's the point of Infinity War if the entire movie will be invalidated with Endgame...people keep talking about the comics and how people come back from the dead all the time...this is not the comics...I want some real consequences and tragedy

We know Loki has a series on Disney+ with Tom Hiddleston playing Loki in some capacity so even if they don't bring him back he'll be around somehow. If they want to revive Loki I think I'd rather them go the route the comics did. In one of the events (might have been the comic version of Ragnarok, not entirely sure) Loki redeemed himself and sacrificed his life to save Thor. Loki was rewarded for this action by being reborn as a child and being allowed to have a different, better, upbringing. This lead to a pretty awesome comic series with a teenaged Loki trying to balance between the fact that he is Loki reborn but he also wants to be a good person. I utterly despise the resolution of reborn Loki in the comics, but I think the concept could work really well for a Disney+ series.

its entertainment and relaxing
I see these movies as a way to escape the humdrum of life. I don't pick them apart, I don't go into the movie expecting certain things and when it doesn't happen I hate on the movie. No, I go to the movie to be entertained.

Case in point, Captain Marvel. It wasn't the best Marvel movie but it certainly wasn't the worst. I was entertained, I got my $5's worth of entertainment and in the end that's all that matters. It allowed me to escape life for two hours. If I had to rank the Captain Marvel movie I'd give it a 7 out of 10.

7 out of 10 is probably where most of the MCU movies sit. There are some exceptional ones (Civil War, the first Avengers movie) and some "eh it was okay) ones (Thor, Thor 2) but most seem to comfortably sit in that 7 out of 10 "Yeah, its fine its" range.

if Endgame is just going to reverse all the deaths through time travel or something similar that's kinda cheap in my opinion...will totally lessen Infinity War as a movie and weaken the entire Marvel universe...Thanos was built up as the biggest, baddest villain over 10-12 movies so this requires some major Avenger heroes deaths to make it worth it...otherwise he's no better then any other lesser villain...plus how will audiences ever trust Marvel again if a major character dies in a future movie...they'll just assume that the death is a fakeout...2-3 major characters need to die and stay dead (Iron Man, Captain America, Thor etc) plus 2-3 minor ones (Hawkeye, Ant Man, Falcon etc)

I mean that is what happened in the comics though...in fact in the comics everything goes back to exactly the way it was before their final confrontation with Thanos. It was not accomplished through time travel, they actually had an easter egg in the first Infinity War to how it was done, so likely that is not going to be how they do it this time. But it is likely they return most if not all the heroes.

They don't need to kill any heroes to keep people's trust in Marvel, not even sure why that is a thing. I mean basically Marvel just arbitrarily killed a bunch of heroes. Why would people lose trust if they were just as arbitrarily brought back? Now if it was in the heroes personal story lines that they die, that is a different story, but this isn't individual heroes story lines, this is Avengers.

It is very rare for any major character to stay dead in the Marvel universe. Heck even minor characters don't stay dead. They are always resurrected or brought back. I expect the same to happen in Endgame... that is of course unless the actor does not want to come back.

Well they don't die that often to begin with. They usually retire and someone else takes the mantle. I mean really I would be more interested in seeing the "next" iteration of a hero rather than the a reboot of the same actual hero all the time. Why not a different Spiderman rather than Peter Parker, or a different Green Lantern (and maybe an actually good GL movie), or Rhodes as Iron Man, etc.

they did die as part of their personal story...all the MCU movies built up each individual hero story over multiple movies...this was supposed to be the culmination of those journeys...the end...I'm not saying to reverse ALL the deaths but good Lord don't bring back every single character that died...that is totally dumb...this is not the comics where things like that happen regularly...this is a movie series adapting some of the story lines...so now what?...a new MCU Phase where another big bad villain is built up over 5-6 movies and the same BS happens all over again where no one dies?

the MCU is too big as is...killing off some major heroes is necessary...it's easy to kill off Peter Parker but keep Spider Man alive...the suit is eternal while the character wearing it can die...have Miles Morales take over as Spider Man...it would have been perfect with the success of that Into the Spider-Verse movie...have Winter Soldier take over for Captain America...have War Machine become the new Iron Man etc etc

I can wait for Redbox/Netflix. I barely go to the movies any more. I mean we all have 82" 4K monster TVs right? Why do I have to go sit in a sticky seat with children yapping the whole time... I know lots of people that are like "you gotta see it on the big screen"... yeah, not really.

Even the best home theaters don't quite match a quality theatrical experience but if your local theater has shitty crowds you are much better off staying at home. Can't say I've ever hard the terrible experiences people here seem to say happen at all theaters every time they go.

if you have a Dolby Cinema location nearby that's the only time I recommend going to a theater...the video/audio quality is jawdropping...Nolan's 70mm IMAX movies are also worth seeing on the big screen if you have a real 70mm IMAX screen nearby (not the fake IMAX locations that have been popping up over the past few years)

No they didn't. They died as part of Avengers, not as part of their own personal stories. And the way they died in IW was arbitrary. It wasn't like they died actually fighting Thanos, they died because he snapped his fingers... It's not at all the same thing.

I do agree with passing the torch though as I mentioned.

they 'died' in the Avengers but all the movies in the MCU are inter-connected...so their journeys didn't just begin and end with the 3 Avengers movies...

I have been to one. My uncle and I went to go see Star Trek Into Darkness there (never mind that it was a bad movie). It was $30 for both of us at matinee prices. It was certainly loud as fuck. It should have come with a free 4K UHD disc of the movie for that price. Or a free drink or popcorn or something. And it didn't stop the people next to me texting during the entire movie.

Also... the person I usually go to movies with insists on sitting in an aisle seat instead of the middle / sweet spot. So I get to listen to full blast left or right surround instead of a balance.

I've enjoyed the Marvel movies. I'm looking forward to this if only to conclude this story line.
I would have liked to see several more stand-alone Captain America movies. However, I believe Chris Evans is kind of burnt-out on the role and wants to direct. I thought he was a great Steve Rogers.
Give it a few years, we'll probably see reboots at some point. Too much money at stake with this franchise.

Why Dolby Cinema at AMC is the best movie-going experience today

you're getting 500 times the contrast ratio compared to a standard movie projection system, pure black levels, an expanded color gamut and twice the brightness...This is all thanks to a dual-4K Christie laser projection system, designed to support films that have been optimized and color graded for Dolby Vision HDR...Dolby Atmos sound system: five in-screen speakers, 48 surround sound speakers and four ceiling-mounted subwoofers....Want more? The reclining leather chairs have transducers in them, so you'll feel a deep rumble directly in your seat when there's a loud explosion or a crash of lighting...It's the definitive movie-going experience right now...

i was in cali and saw Infinity War on the Sacramento 70mm IMAX nothing can come close to this

I can't lose myself in these movies any longer. All I see is Robert Downey Jr., Chris, Evans, Paul Rudd, et al. and a lot of chroma key. There is no magic which allows me to suspend my disbelief, only actors and CGI and production assets.

there's no point watching Infinity War or Endgame on an IMAX screen because it wasn't filmed with 'real' 70mm IMAX cameras...it's fake IMAX using the Arri Alexa cameras...Christopher Nolan movies like Dunkirk were filmed with 70mm and look stunning on a real IMAX screen

Why oh why did they shoe-horn Capt.Marvel in at the last minute. Really makes no sense.

The following pitch meeting will provide a more than satisfying explanation for you, here you go:

Ahh, this is the one where Captain Marvel kills thanos with her SJW stare. Sorry, should have said ***SPOILER ALERT*** first!

Yay another boring Marvel movie. The heroes will be resurrected one way or another and together they defeat Thanos (even though he is like a god on steroids).

I used to enjoy them but am burned out. You can only churn out the same (or similar) plot in the same universe so many times before it gets stale.

The comic was way more complex and interesting. Here, you're probably right smh...depends on how bad they simplify it.

I imagine most, if not all, the "dusted" characters will return (especially as both Chadwick Boseman and Sebastian Stan still have multiple movies left on their contracts) I think the big question is if the people killed before the dusting (Loki, Gamora, Hemidal, etc) will all return. I never really believed that all the dusted characters were actually dead. They're likely all trapped within the soul stone.

Unless they totally went off the source material on this, they're really dead.

If Captain Mary Sue single-handedly saves the day in Endgame, the MCU is dead to me :/

To be honest the comic wasn't actually very complicated at all. Thanos beats everyone. Thanos outsmarts himself and Nebula takes advantage. Nebula isn't necessary better than Thanos. But because Nebula hates Thanos sooooo much she decides to undo everything he did out of spite. Then Nebula gets tricked into giving up the gauntlet by the simple expedient of making it hurt her hand so she takes it off... Then there is a bunch of back and forth about who is fit to wield the gauntlet and lo and behold they decide to separate the gems again and give them to caretakes, just. like. it. was. before. In fact if you extrapolate it further it is even far less complicated as Thanos entire reason for getting the gauntlet, the gems, and killing half the universe is because Death tells him to. It was that simple. Absolutely nothing complex about it at all, lol.

Wild how strongly opinionated some people get over these movies. I enjoy them, they are fun. I like the way they all tie together, even if it is predictable in many ways.

Captain Marvel was a good movie in the series (MCU), not great but good. The only thing I don't like is how close the release is to Endgame.

Most comic book plot lines, especially the old ones, were almost retarded in their juvenile simplicity. Is it really so shocking that the movies are following a similar vein? In fact, I think that is what makes the movies work. Sometimes obnoxious over the top CGI action is just fun.

I feel like all the people screaming Mary Sue are just the natural reactionary counterpoint to all the feminazis. Same type of person, just arbitrarily on one side instead of the other. Perfectly balanced, as all things should be. :smug:

Exactly. I watch a movie to be entertained, that's all I ask of the movie.

Apparently they didn't understand that Captain Marvel was meant to be a massively overpowered character. Look in the original comics, she was created to be OP.
